Which is My LOUDEST Car! Testing COLD STARTS with a Decibel Meter

The Art of Sound: A Car Comparison Spectacle

As we embark on this auditory adventure, each side that seems to be a pretty standard thing we are part right back to the wall which probably makes it sound a little bit louder than otherwise but i think for today that's fine. Pop this on max and take a listen then to the lamborghini sto we've got a winner we've got a winner let's go 95 and idle again think we can give it 96. we can give that 96.

we've got some results then but before we wrap up we are gonna start the novitek ferrari 812 gts that is here visiting a car that belongs to a friend but let's have a quick look back at some of these numbers from the quietest which fairly obviously is the thai can at 61 decibels on the start which is basically the parking brake releasing and 53 decibels on idle to the clio which was 59 at idle 76 at the start about the same as talking volume but obviously it gets louder and louder and i think if you take averages between start volume and idle volume that was a pretty good guess at the order we did them in. i think pretty much everything was roughly in line there were a couple that were one or two quieter on the start or the idle versus the other but the average is pretty much there all the way to the very top end where we have for the gt8 117 at start 95 at idle and the sto 118 at start and 96 at idle. two very very loud cars.

but yeah really quite interesting to have the actual numbers as you can see here i'm curious if you think any of those have stood out as louder than you expected obviously the m3 has a very loud exhaust on it and it's quite a different sound you might have felt like it blew out the microphone a little bit because it just thunders and obviously decibels are effectively looking at the volume the logarithmic scale as i said at the beginning so something that registers 118 is significantly louder than something that registers 108 but that's not necessarily always how you hear it there's a feeling as well the vibration the shaking the overall i guess emotion of the sound also.

but now let's head over take a listen to that 812. the gt8 was loud the sto was louder but i think this is going to win the ferrari 812 gts with the novitek package including the carbon fiber on the exterior the wheels and crucially the exhaust at the back especially when it's parked like this right up to the wall i suspect this might be blowing up the decibel meter and very very loud for our ears so um yeah let's let's give it a go and take a listen okay that's better. i can talk 116 on the start 113 on the idol after a few moments then to just let the ears stop ringing a little bit.

that is ludicrous the startup sound is not quite as loud as some of the others 116 versus 117 of the gt8 and 118 of the sto but you don't really hear that difference all that much. the idle sound at 113 or so is just next level you would not want to be exposed to a sound that loud for really very long obviously we're inside the barn but it is one of the greatest sounds ever a six and a half liter naturally aspirated v12 with another tech exhaust just pure perfection.

now i think i did a pretty good job with the order of the cars increasing in volume overall if you're taking averages between the snap of the cold start and the idle sound the only two possibly that should have been swapped around are the m3 and the 675 lt just reversing those because the lt's cold start at 100 decibels was a fair chunk louder than the m3s nonetheless a fascinating mix of different engines of different sounds some stock cars some modified cars and it's not always about pure noise it's not about being the loudest thing in the world it's about the emotional connection about how it feels about how it sounds and about how much you enjoy driving it and that's what i love about all the different cars being able to try and experience different things enjoy different things anyway next time around to do this for round two be subscribed for that we can include the mclaren cena the ford gt the amg gt black series the ford focus rs heritage and hopefully the shelby gt500 i'm very intrigued to hear how that stacks up as well plus the new cars inbound the ferrari sf90 stradale the lotus emira and also the zenvo tsrs i can't wait to do more of a comparison with all of these.

thank you very much for watching as always guys i appreciate your support an awful lot i look forward to seeing you again very soon cheers shmee i'm guys bye you\\n

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi guys i'm shmee hello and welcome back to the channel we're quite a fun thing to try out today here at this museum with quite a few of the schme mobiles and a decibel meter to do a bit of a sound check and see what each of the cars are like on a cold start now this is going to be a battle i think between the lamborghini hurricane sto the aston gt-8 and the mercedes sls amg black series but i want to try and compare a little bit more what each of the various cars are actually like on a cold start everything has been sat everything is ready for its cold start but what about m3 versus c63 black series what about gtr roadster versus v8 vantage roadster lots of cars lots of different engines lots of different sounds and we're going to measure them all to see what comes out on top from the cars here in the collection that are here today you may notice that a few of the schmiema beals are not here at the moment and we have some that are a little bit quieter than others although the electric world the tai can makes is quite interesting we might have to check that we do have a few cars with aftermarket exhausts like the g63 like the m3 and the c63 black series we have a couple of very loud factory cars like the sto and the gt8 it's going to be really interesting to see which of those comes out on top but a few of the schmidt mobiles are not here at the moment the likes of the cena and the ford gt neither of which is particularly loud to be honest the gt black series in dubai with the opus upgrades and the gt500 which is stock over in florida we might have to try those again for around two when the zenvo is here in the future but for today we're not going to be hearing the f1 car because of course there is no engine in the back of that but i would quite like to give the clio a go to give a bit of a benchmark and the other thing i would like to do when we're talking benchmarks is to do a bit of a sound check with a phone with a phone playing an alarm so i pop this just on the side pod here load it up just for a second let's take a listen to a standard alarm make some beeps and let me hold this out and see what numbers we get so low 80s about 82 decibels 83 saw an 83 so we'll go with 83 decibels that's our benchmark for your bedside alarm when you're just alongside it let's go start up the clio and work our way through some of the cars comparing i've got a nice order planned to see how this is gonna go up first then the clio with its four-cylinder 1.2 liter engine 70-something horsepower and back here the exhaust tailpipe sits under the bumper on that side so um i'm going to be quiet let's have a start-up of the clio 76 or something so um yes an idol that's pretty quiet so about 59 at idle my talking volume is in the 70s there's only about 76 on start so there we have our i suppose baseline for numbers we're comparing with we are going to give the titan a go now of course electric car a little bit different electric motors effectively being near on silent but in this car you do have the sport plus mode which uses some speakers and a sound generator to play this electrical were so we're going to start this and i'm not entirely sure where exactly to point the decibel meter given that there aren't exactly exhaust tailpipes i'm trying to be fair from car to car approximately a meter or so away i think we should do it around from the back of the car but let's take a listen to the start of the thai can in sport plus that's fascinating so about 61 decibels on the start and then idling at around 51.52 i'm sure you can hear that about 53 down here i think it's slightly louder at the exhaust position next comes the new audi rs3 saloon the team car here at this museum with the 2.5 litre turbo 5 cylinder if i come on through though this is of course a car that meets the new regulations so significantly quieter than cars used to be i'm also going to slightly change the mode of this and put it on max so we get the startup reading but let's take a listen then again from back here about a meter away from those famous and iconic oval exhaust tailpipes we've got an 87 max then let's put it onto the live readings about 69 decibels that's fairly quiet for the idol okay then we've got the readings next we're trying the first of the amg's the gtr roadster four liter by turbo v8 again a new car so still with the quieter regulation meeting exhausts opf etc let's come round towards the back it does have quite a nice grunt so with this then put onto max let's take a listen 89. we're guessing very well so far so finally i'm going to give that an 87. so we've been trying to do this in order we seem to be getting it about right the next one we're not so sure about the aston martin v8 advantage roadster 4.7 liter naturally aspirated v8 but a very different exhaust to the gt8 that we shall get to as to these two though not entirely sure which is going to have the higher result but we will come around towards the back and get another cold start of this one to see what we get not bad i nearly missed the mode but it is 97 on the cold start but much quieter at 76 on the idle we're moving to something a little bit spicy although i'm not sure it would be as loud on the cold start as the vantage roadster but we shall find out in a moment toyota's rally-based hot hatch the gi yaris with a 1.5 liter three cylinder in the case of this car also with a milltek exhaust we've got the miltec backbox non-resonated and we're going to have a listen to this and believe me it's going to get very very exciting as it gets louder so we'll pop this back on max and take a listen wow it did we got that right that's really interesting that it's softening down i'm gonna give it about 88 88 on the idle but we had 97 on the cold start impressive little thing we've put the g63 next in the list but i'm starting to have small doubts because i think this could be a little bit louder than we're giving it credit for again with the four liter by turbo v8 but here we have the akrapovic exhaust and link pipe and this is probably going to sound a little bit louder so let's pop it into max be about a meter away from the side exit exhaust pipes and let's see what the g63 does 95 next up comes another merc a very angry naturally aspirated v8 the 6.2 liter engine in the c63 amg black series this car also has a secondary cat delete and resonator delete although we have the standard primary cats and it's going to sound quite loud with a bit of a snap and a bark on the cold start so let's have a listen to this hey 98 decibels we're getting re-ordered pretty good here let's turn this to the idle reading 84. it's looking a little bit cold in here it is supercar time we go to the mclaren 675 lt spyder the car in the collection that i've owned for the longest we have a 3.8 liter twin turbocharged v8 making as the name suggests 675 horsepower it was the hardcore track focused version of the 12c and the 650s and around back we have two very prominent titanium exhaust tailpipes now i think we might slightly have this one in the wrong order but very shortly we shall find out onto the right setting let's take a listen then to the cold start of the a cold lte all right let's pop this onto normal i think it's 95 on the idol leaving the fairly smoky 675 lt then which we might just ask mclaren about to see what's going on with that although it's always been kind of like that we now go to the g80 m3 competition the rear wheel drive version but we've got the turbocharged three liter straight six we have the full remus exhaust system secondary cats all the way to the back it is quite an unusual startup sound though that you get out of the m3 it's quite gentle to begin with and then it gets very very very angry and aggressive so let's pop this onto max and i guess take a listen um we're moving on to the noisy ones we have the sls black series the gt8 and the sto but let's start with the amg full run tech upgrade rentek r1 package we have the 6.2 nav8 back up front in the sls black series the ultimate incarnation of that engine this is particularly i think shouty is the right word so let's again pop this into our max mode and have a cold start of the sls black series 108 108. the numbers are getting bigger as expected here but it is a little bit quieter on the idle it's not quite as close to the wall i think that might make a little difference there was about 91 there on the idle so the first of the most heavy of hitters i think we can say the aston martin vantage gt8 4.7 liter naturally aspirated v8 again a titanium exhaust we seem to have a running theme with this the gt8 is somehow straight from the factory so loud i have no idea how it was homologated like this the titanium exhaust was actually an upgrade you can see we've got the two tailpipes sitting in the diffuser back there but to get this reading we will again go on to max get ready stand about a meter away let's have a listen yes 117 you read that right let's go round what do we have i think we can say 95 to 117 start 95 on idle with a factory exhaust system from the ludicrous gt8 to the last of my cars the lamborghini hurricane sto another naturally aspirated engine this time a v10 the 5.2 liters 640 horsepower the ludicrous sto another track focused special and a car that i well i don't know which is actually going to take the top spot today um between these two back here again twin tailpipes well single on each side that seems to be a pretty standard thing we are part right back to the wall which probably makes it sound a little bit louder than otherwise but i think for today that's fine pop this on max and take a listen then to the lamborghini sto we've got a winner we've got a winner let's go 95 and idle again think we can give it 96. we can give that 96. we've got some results then but before we wrap up we are gonna start the novitek ferrari
