The Bona Petits Test Kitchen: A Hands-On Review of the Sears All Torch
I'm Carla, and today I'm excited to put the latest kitchen torch on our test drive. When it comes to using a torch in the kitchen for an extended period, there have been limited choices available. However, not until now has there been a high-powered torch specifically designed for use with food in the kitchen. The Sears Off-Ooh Fire is this game-changing tool, and I'm eager to dive into its features and capabilities.
One of the coolest aspects of the Sears Off-Ooh Fire is its two screens. These screens diffuse the flame, not only creating a more even heat distribution but also eliminating any unwanted propane flavor that might be present in the gas. This means you can use this torch for almost anything, from adding a crispy crust to mac and cheese to caramelizing the top of a steak.
To demonstrate the Sears Off-Ooh Fire's capabilities, I'll be using a slow-roasted steak as my test subject. This steak is perfectly cooked on the inside, and the Sears All will give it that perfect sear on the outside. To achieve this, you need to hold the torch about an inch away from the meat. One of the most impressive things about the Sears Off-Ooh Fire is its ability to eliminate smoke alarms and prevent windows from blowing open, ensuring that your steak stays perfectly cooked without overcooking.
Now, let's talk about searing a steak – one of the most awesome things to do in the kitchen. It's not as simple as it seems, though. Your smoke alarm might be going off, or every window in the place might be open. But this torch rules because it eliminates all that without overcooking your steak. With great color and caramelization, the first side is done, looking awesome. I'll just flip her over with one click – it's very simple and intuitive to use.
The second side is also done, and now we can slice into it to see how perfect it is inside. There's literally no better feeling than cutting into a perfectly cooked piece of meat like this, evenly pink inside and seared on the top. The Best of Both Worlds – that's what this torch has given me. I'm excited to try out one of my favorite recipes from the magazine, Faux Tisserie Chicken.
However, there is one downside: it doesn't get that crackly crunchy chicken skin you want from a roasted chicken. But don't worry, we'll mix up that right up. The Sears All will sear all incredibly, so that worked pretty perfectly and this chicken now looks amazing. If this just seems like too much torch, there's always the option to get yourself a Burnomatic regular propane torch – you can find those at hardware stores or even in your garage. When you're done experimenting and ready to go big, definitely invest in a Sears All. You'll have so much fun with it for these recipes and more of our Bona Petits kitchen-approved appliances, tools, and gadgets. For now, visit bonappetit.com SL.
