Welcome to Another Episode of Jay Leno's Garage: A Passion for Corvettes
As a Corvette enthusiast, I'm thrilled to share my love for these iconic American cars with you. You may have seen some of our previous episodes featuring the C6 RS, the Z06, and even the king of the hill, the ZR1 serial number 001. However, there's a community out there that's truly dedicated to all things Corvette, and today we're going to meet some of those enthusiasts.
We're joined by two guys who run a website called Smokin' Vets Calm, which is exclusively for Corvettes. The name says it all - they're passionate about these cars and want to share their knowledge with fellow enthusiasts. Let's meet Alex Shulte and Greg, the masterminds behind this website.
Alex and Greg are excited to share their passion for Corvettes with us, and we get to see firsthand what makes their site so special. They explain that their community is made up of over 280,000 members, ranging from Sienna owners to those who build high-performance cars like the C6. The website is a go-to resource for any Corvette-related question or issue, whether it's about performance, maintenance, or just owning the car.
One of the unique aspects of Smokin' Vets Calm is that it's an open forum where enthusiasts can share their experiences and ask questions without fear of judgment. Alex and Greg assure us that this is a space where you'll find honest advice from people who understand the car inside out. They also mention that they have a team of moderators who ensure that all content stays on topic and respectful.
As we chat with Alex and Greg, it becomes clear that their passion for Corvettes is infectious. We talk about everything from performance upgrades to interior modifications, and even get some tips on how to keep your Corvette in top shape. They recommend checking out FTL manual transmission loops, which work beautifully with synchros, and also praise the gauges they use, which can be read without taking your eyes off the road.
One of the most interesting aspects of Alex and Greg's setup is their turbocharged C6. This car has been modified to run on methanol water injection, and we get a glimpse into how it works. The supercharger unit looks impressive, and we learn about the ceramic-coated headers underneath the engine bay that help keep everything cool.
As our conversation comes to a close, Alex and Greg share some final thoughts on what makes Smokin' Vets Calm such a valuable resource for Corvette enthusiasts. They emphasize that it's a community built on trust and respect, where you can find expert advice and honest opinions from people who truly understand the car. We're grateful for their time and insights, and we look forward to seeing more of these incredible Corvettes in future episodes.
As we wrap up this episode, I'm reminded once again just how much passion and dedication goes into building a community like Smokin' Vets Calm. If you're a Corvette enthusiast or just looking to learn more about these amazing cars, I highly recommend checking out their website and joining the conversation.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwelcome to another episode of Jay Leno's Garage as you know I'm big Corvette enthusiasts got a couple of Corvettes you've been on the website before you saw our c6 RS the zo6 with the 505 horsepower motor we transplanted my c5 I've had since 79 and of course the king of the hill the zr1 serial number 0:01 but as much of a Corvette fanatic as I am they're guys way way beyond that there's a website called smokin vets calm which is just Corvettes we kind of do everything here now this is just Corvettes no other cars exist is the only car in the universe it's run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts let's meet a couple of goofballs behind this hi guys how you doing are you doing there dude guys introduce yourselves gonna meet you Alex shulte Alex my name is Greg just Greg you know like like cher Madonna this is Greg it's smoking vets calm you guys run the rep website right yes and you get technical advice and I've been on a bunch of times it's really cool stuff because I've always said Corvettes and Harley Davidsons the part of the most accessorize vehicles in the world there's more aftermarket stuff for those than almost any other car you guys brought a couple your vets down today right to show us what he wants to go first I guess I will see it work this is Greg it's a 2005 c6 right we dropped in a 4-3 stroker okay and put the STS twin 60 millimeter remote mount turbo system on it okay the turbos are all the way in the back not the prettiest on earth but it is completely functional it's fully forged bill by LME you started with wet block it's an ls2 block LS to block taking it to what 403 1 3 4 3 cubic inch okay if you pop off up there yes it is and what do you want run for rear-end ratio in this 390 so3 90s ok and though the six-speed you'll probably all right yes so the turbos are all the way in the back you hooked up the exhaust and then pipes rerun all the way up to the front but you don't get a lot of lag when you come all the way back and then forth it all the way back up maybe a split second that we've got enough volume in the motor so that you're probably all right yes okay well that's pretty neat that probably helps weight distribution and imagine keeps the heat further back to that yes so my heat soak is not an issue in this taken right they're twin sixty millimeter twin turbos Wow that's pretty sophisticated I have to admit I was not aware of this system who makes it STS acquires what kind of horsepower figure you're getting right now we just have it on eleven pounds and we got almost 650 to the wheel we need a bigger map sensor in order to go for the bigger boobs and this is kind of the style know a lot of guys do the the matte that black the flat black and of course the cops don't notice any of this that's the nice thing you know when you go through town you know if you go on 61 and a 60 you're gonna get nail I mean just say arrest me let me get single guy yes yeah yeah you have okay yet no I'm actually in a relationships you are yes she's very understanding yes she actually helps me clean it so really mentally well let's see how long that lasts after you married okay okay buddy come on oh yeah oh honey can I help oh yeah great we have to sell it you got to get a minivan we got a kid coming no it's fantastic and you've upgraded the brakes bears right yes that's the bear extreme okay exposed in front and rear now what kind of shape was his car and when you got it was it with did you buy it new July it used I actually bought a secondhand okay and it came pretty well stock except for a course of a catback system okay and instantly from there I lifted the body off the chassis and went to work on it interior pretty basic I like to keep it relatively clean so we put a risin racing seats in Nexus gauges which obviously let us know our fuel pressure oil and air fuel we are also running the fat coil over fully adjustable coil over system on this other than that the body on this one is pretty stock except for there is 0-6 rear quarters the racing wing get a little flack on the wing but it's it's as Jay says it's one of the cars you can accessorize the most and it's something I personally like I'll have to take it out a little see how absolutely all right let's move it over your buddy tell us about your car all right Jay first of all same as this one it's a 2005 c6 differences this is an automatic it's supercharged with the magnet now why the automatic I'm just curious is to buy fizzy did you do for the automatic you know a little bit of an impulse buyer yeah drove by side of the car had have it four hours later automatics in the garage Wow okay okay and you got a tow bar here interesting story behind it but yes what's the story do with the transmission last year tow strap no place helps to hook it to accept the sway bar okay two blocks away from the house the tow strap came off grab the old chin spoiler and took it for a run I might Ross why you move this one silent bent over about five and a quarter at the wheels in size will you guys won those nineteenth these are 19 in the front 20s in the rear circuiting on this car has been pretty much gone through replaced Murphy s bets right I have done the interior we have a currently a gear star stage for transmission in it yanked 2800 converter and we were using this transmission in our eco jet jet car which is 750 orison like 800 foot-pounds of torque clutch pack lasted two miles hit 2nd gear boom smoke so we built it and put it back in let's open your hood here that's a nice looking supercharger unit we're spraying methanol into the intake are using methanol water injection now it's just straight methanol using the windshield washer reservoir to hold the methanol and we have the Magnussen 112 blower we have a complete cook ceramic coated headers underneath the engine bay we've accessorize it with parts from pipe dreams to atomic motorsport so you know we've done some dress-up to it one of the latest add-ons that we added to the car was the BM B Bullitt fusion exhausts the days when you had the girl for another wife and the car you able to hit a button and it basically quiets down but folks up at escort sent us down the latest greatest radar laser jamming technology in here we have a 9500 radar detector this is the first c6 in the world with AP racing it's a big brake kit on it how many hit you guys get on your website usually uh we are a little bit over two hundred eighty six thousand uh not the base that's cool cool forty four thousand members ranging from Siwon owners up to see 6006 right and if I any technical questions I imagine I can go on if you have if you have a question about your Corvette no matter what it is don't have to be a high-performance question be a question about squeaky brakes or anything like that right you guys a tizzy yeah and the nice thing is it's enthusiasts talking other enthusiasts you're not d-list telling you oh come on down I mean you'll find out who's good who's bad what's a ripoff who's a crook who treat you nicely who goes out of their way a lot of and the usual gossipy chatter that you have on all these kind of things but I think it's it's a lot of fun well very cool well gentlemen well how good to have to take these contra ride and see how they go feels like it's got a short shifter kid in it of some kind it's just very nicely what product I recommend highly is FTL manual transmission loop that works the best best for synchros handles nicely not too stiff not too firm and I do like these gauges you can read them with your peripheral vision without taking your eye off the road sounds good not too loud or you end up wasting that's part of it you know nearly home again you really drive back to the car I knew I got with the turbo way back there keeps all the heat from coming up to the floor of the car and roasting your toes very clever idea it's the first time I've seen that application on the court man it's a big group finding people like yourself you\n"
