Pixel 4 vs iPhone 11 - Which should you buy (Feat. UrAvgConsumer)

**The Pricing Puzzle: iPhone vs Pixel 4**

When it comes to smartphones, pricing is often a topic of discussion among tech enthusiasts. Two popular devices that have been making headlines recently are the Apple iPhone and the Google Pixel 4. In this article, we'll dive into the pricing differences between these two devices in the US and UK markets.

**Pricing in the UK**

So, it's actually flipped, which is kind of weird. The iPhone's more expensive in the UK than in the US. This is surprising, considering that the Pixel 4 comes in at $800 in the US, whereas its UK counterpart costs around £599 (approximately $780). It seems like Google is going for a more aggressive pricing strategy in the UK to capitalize on market share.

**Pricing in the US**

In contrast, the iPhone's price point in the US starts at $64 for the base model, with options for 128 GB and even 256 GB storage. While this may seem steep, it's worth noting that you're getting a phone that will last longer during the day due to its battery life. Additionally, if you want to spend money on accessories like a fast charger, an iPhone is a worthwhile investment.

**The Verdict**

If I had to pick just one of these devices, which one would I choose? Unfortunately, for me, it's tough because my whole family uses iOS, and that's a must-have for me. If I were in the US for $100 cheaper, I'd pick the iPhone. However, in the UK, I'm kind of leaning more towards the Pixel 4.

**The Ecosystem**

As someone who's deeply invested in the iOS ecosystem, I have to admit that it's a big factor in my decision-making process. I mean, iMessage is a pretty much a must-have for me, and having an iPhone means I can stay connected with my friends and family seamlessly. That being said, if I had to pick between these two devices, I think the iPhone still offers an incredible user experience.

**The Pixel 4**

But what about the Google Pixel 4? In the US, it starts at $700, which is a significant difference from the iPhone's starting price. While it may not be as expensive, it's worth noting that you're getting a phone with some amazing camera capabilities and an overall smooth user experience.

**The Verdict: Which One Should You Choose?**

Ultimately, both devices are pretty great, where they're coming in at their respective prices. If you're looking for a more affordable option, the iPhone might be the way to go. However, if you're invested in the Google ecosystem and want a phone with some amazing camera capabilities, the Pixel 4 is definitely worth considering.

**Judner's Thoughts**

We asked Judner, who's based in the US, about his thoughts on the pricing strategy for both devices. He mentioned that he'd be going for the iPhone if it were available for $100 cheaper. However, when we compared the prices side by side, he realized that the Pixel 4 was actually a better deal.

**Conclusion**

When it comes to smartphones, there's no one-size-fits-all solution. The pricing differences between the Apple iPhone and the Google Pixel 4 are certainly worth noting, especially when considering which device is right for you in different markets. By taking a closer look at both devices and their respective prices, you can make an informed decision that suits your needs and budget.

**Additional Tips**

If you're looking to get the most out of your smartphone experience, consider investing in accessories like a fast charger or a high-quality case. These small additions can go a long way in enhancing your overall user experience. Additionally, if you're new to smartphones or switching from an older device, don't be afraid to ask for help – many retailers offer excellent customer support and advice to get you up and running with your new phone.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- What's up, guys?Saf here on SuperSafTV.And we've got an interesting video today. We're gonna be lookingat the Google Pixel 4versus the iPhone 11,along with my buddy Judner, better known as UrAvgConsumer.- What's up, y'all? What's going on, guys?- Good to have you on the channel, man.- Of course, of course.- So, we've got these two phones. They've never been closer. You know, when you're talking about priceand everything like that, these are the entry level modelsfrom Apple, and from Google.- Mm-hmm.- So this is gonna be aninteresting comparison. We're gonna break down allof the different features, and then we'll alsotell you our preferencesfor all of the different features.- Yeah.- So should we startoff with the build and design?- Yeah, let's do it.- Similar set-up.- Aluminium frame, or aluminumas you Americans like to say.- Aluminum, yeah.(Saf laughing)- And we've got the glass back, but we do have the glossyall around on the iPhone.- Mm-hmm.- We've got a mattefinish here on the Pixel's.- Which I prefer.- There is the glossyversion, as well, on the black.- The black one, yeah.- But you get morecolor options on the iPhone.- Yeah.I will say, though, I don't know.I really do like the mattefinish from the white one. Also orange looks okay, but the white one forme looks really clean.- If you were to pick one, overall, for the design, what would it be?- Overall for the design.I really like the white Pixel, but I think overall, though,iPhone is probably a bit cleaner.Throughout the entire line.- Okay. That's good to know.I mean, if I was to pick one, I meanbecause I really like that matte finishI would go with the Pixel,as opposed to the iPhone 11.Both IP68 water anddust resistant as well. The Pixel's quite a bit smallercompared to the iPhone. And that is because it doeshave a smaller 5.7-ish displaycompared to the--- 6.1- 6.1 inch display. And obviously the displaysare very different here.- OLED versus--- LCD.- Super retina.- Super--- Liquid retina.- Liquid retina. That's what they call it.So we've got liquid retina versus smoothOLED on the Pixel. We've also got a highresolution on the Pixel.1080p versus around, what eight? We were trying to find the numberbut can't actually get to it.- Low 800, 820 something p.- Yeah.- Nothing to be super proud about.- Yeah and the pixel also has up to 90 Hz.- Which is nice.- Which is really nice.- It's like adaptive sosometimes 60, sometimes 90.- But when it is 90 it's nice, isn't it?- Oh so nice.- Yeah, now we alsowere trying to do some teststo see which one's brighter, now neither of these areamazingly bright to be honestbut from what we can seethe iPhone is a tad brighter isn't it?- Yeah, I think thegeneral consensus here that wefound is just the iPhonedoes in many angles looka lot brighter.- Yeah.- Especially in direct sunlight,in direct sunlight it'sa little hard to really pick, but I think for most of uswe kinda just fell on the iPhone.- Yeah and then we've got thebezel situation, so we've gota uniform bezel all round onthe iPhone, with the notchwhereas on the Pixel we'vegot smaller bezels on theleft and right, I'd say thechin is roughly about the samebut then we have that forehead.- I'm all for theforehead man, I don't mind itbecause when Google cameout with the Pixel 3XL,ah horrible, that was a mistake.- The back though.- That notch was bad, man.- That was a big notch.- I'd rather go with theforehead and no notch,it's just a much cleaner screen? You know when you're lookingat content, you're just usingthe phone, the screen itself looks better.- Okay, so if you were to picka screen between these two?- Oh, just overall?- Yeah.- No, I mean the brightnessis a big deal for me.- Okay.- So I'd probably go iPhone.Ah, you know what?- Ooh, this is a tough one- This is tough, because thereare sacrifices made on eachside, so you know you got that OLAD 90Hzcontent looks really goodon it but it's so dimwhich is a huge problem for me.You take that thing outside, man, you're not having a good time.- Especially I wearglasses a lot so you know,it was a struggle.I earlier on went intodirect sunlight and itwas a bit of a struggleto kind of see everything.- Yeah.- So it loses some points for that.- I will, Okay, I willsay, feature wise, the factthat this is OLAD, I love it, but just fora consistent viewing experience,I probably would go with the iPhone.- Interesting, interesting. For me it'd be a tough one,a very tough one just becauseof that brightness but Ithink I would just because ofthe 90Hz, I wouldcompromise a little bit onthe brightness therebecause of the OLAD, the high resolutionand the high refresh rate.So I think I'd probably beleaning towards the Pixel, yeah.- Yeah, I get it, it'sgot good screen features.- It has.Okay, now let's talkabout the cameras 'causethis is where it gets very interesting- Yeah, Googlemade some interestingchoices with their two lenses here. What side of the spectrum are you on?- Okay so thisis interesting becauseon the basis of it I will alwayspick ultra-wide over zoom. But I'm a sucker for portraits at 50mmm.- Okay.- So, I think portraits look better, generally from when I usedto do a lot of photographybefore, if I was photographinga portrait I'd always doeither 50 mil or above, maybe85, somewhere around there. So, using the wide angle, like the primary camera, which is roughly around 28for portraits it's not somethingthat I personally like. So, when it comes toportraits, but then for generalphotography, ultra-wide hands down.- Yeah, yeah for sure. You see, my thing is, thePixel 4 has that super-reszoom, which actuallydoes a pretty decent job.So it almost feels alittle redundant to havea telephoto lens as wellwhen you've got that featurebuilt into it.I find, I think personallythat there are just way moresituations where youcould use the ultra-wideversus the telephoto.- Yeah.- I think, you know, the average person willjust zoom into their photoif they have to, you know.- Well you're hearing thisfrom the AvgConsumer aboutthe average person, so.- I gotta be right about that, right?(Saf laughs)- Yeah, for sure.- So, yeah, for meI'm ultra-wide all the way.I feel like Apple madethe right move in terms ofcamera lens choices.- Yeah.- But in terms of performance, that's a different story.- Okay, so you've beenusing it for the pastfew days, so have I.I actually did the camera comparisonwhich would have gone liveby the time this videogoes live, with Marquez, you can check that out,I'll link that in thecards and description. What are your thoughts oncameras, let's talk aboutphotos initially between both of these.- Well, they've got different looks.iPhone tries to go forthat really natural, just, you get what yousee kind of mentality. But, Pixel I find to bea bit more contrast-y,you get darker blacks and it's just a morecontrast-y look, a littlebit more color there.Really good dynamic rangeon both, honestly it'sa style preference, I feel like.I really like the wayPixel cameras perform.iPhones are great if youwanna edit them in post.Like, you know, you wanna switch it up,put your own taste on it.But not that many peopleare editors out there.- Yep.- So if you want just somethingthat looks really goodright out of the camera, Idon't know man, the Pixeldoes an awesome job- Processing on there ispretty good, yeah. And video, this is whereit gets interesting.(Judner blows raspberry)- It's not interesting,it's not interesting.(Saf laughs)The iPhone wins.- Yeah, well that is the interesting partbecause I've said this somany times before and like,a few people have criticized me for it.But, like, hands downright now the iPhone shootsthe best video on anysmart phone, fight me.- Criticized?Really? It's a fact.- A few people get a bit,I'm like look, don't @ me(Judner laughs)it's got the best video, and the fact that it can shootup to 4k60 from all cameras. Now this is something like, you know, I've said this beforebut to me all it seems likeGoogle really go all outon photos, but then videois always an after-thought.- Yeah, I think that strikes same here.- Yeah man.- You know, for sure, videoquality is definitely lackingwhen it comes to the Pixel, I'd say.- Yeah, so for video I think hands downit's gonna be the iPhone. When it comes to pictures Ithink it's gonna be subjective,I think both of these arevery, good for pictures. So it's gonna come down toyour personal preference.Do you like an ultra-wide?Do you like portraits which, you know personally, I thinkthe Pixel does better atthat sort of 50 mil range. So I think that's gonna come downto your personal preference.Front facing camera, againvideo, I think hands down iPhone. It can shoot 4k60 fromthe front facing camera. The Pixel really doesn't, like--- It's 1080.- You know, it's 1080 andlike quality-wise as well, you know, hands down it's the iPhone.Selfies, what do you think?- Hmmm, same thing.Same thing, I would say.'Cause you get a more stylizedphoto out of the Pixelevery time, so it's reallyjust down to whether or not youwant something that looks justa little bit more natural. You want something with alittle bit more contrast, looks little bit sharpermaybe, you go with the Pixel.- Yeah.So I mean, I like both theselfies, I think both of themare like some of the bestout there for selfies.Great dynamic range.Portrait mode's really good as well. All right, now we're gonnabe talking about software. Now, I'm gonna say thisright away, it is subjective.- Completely.- The advantage thatyou have on both of theseis that you've got greattunnels, you've got the855, and then you've gotthe Apple Bionic 813.- 813.- You know, you've got alittle bit of differences inRAM, but because of thedifferent operating systemsthe biggest advantage Ithink that you've got on bothof these is that they'reboth stock and you're gonnabe getting updates right away. And that's one of the reasonsthat you'd be going fora Pixel as well.- Right, of course.Yeah, it honestly just comesdown to whether you're usedto using iOS, or if you youreally just want Android.- Now let's talk aboutsome of the features. So, we have this new radarsensor on the Pixel so, you know, the face unlock is crazy fast.- It's a beautiful thing.- It's so fast.But--- But.- I've read an article recentlythat it unlocks with youreyes closed as well.- Yes, and it works.- It did, it did. It's so good that it unlockswith your eyes closed.(both laugh)- I don't know if you wannaput that in the marketing'cause I know there'sa lot of guys out therewho are probably like(inhales hesitantly) I don'tknow if I need all that.- Yeah, when you're sleepingand, you know, your girl'slike let me have a look atyour messages, you know?- Let's just take a look.- Yeah, now one thing that Ireally like about the iPhoneis you have the optionto switch off, you know,if you're aware or not.So like with me whenI've got sunglasses on,I usually have that offand I'm not too worriedabout somebody just pointingit at my face and unlocking it.So I like that there's the option.- Right.- Currently, I'm sure itwill probably come with thesoftware update, butcurrently there is no way toswitch that on and off.Face ID on the iPhone.- Eh, it works. You know, you wait a littlesecond to get in but it's fine.- Between these two.- Oh, Pixel for me.Pixel has been amazing.Like, I've been loving theexperience just gettinginto the phone.- It is faster, I foundit's like so much faster.Gestures, motion sense, thewhole., what do you think?- I mean, it's...You know, it's so funnybecause people calledit a gimmick for awhile.I think it came out onlike the G8 or something.- Yeah.- It's cool.I think swiping, like, maybe if you're listening tosomething while you're doing, like let's say you got Spotifyopen while you're typingon your computer, you gotmusic playing from the speaker, you don't like the song, you quickly just swipe. You know, that's cool.Practical, is it somethingthat someone's gonna use a lot?Probably not.But the fact that the radarcan protect your handsgoing over the phone as youpick it up to do the wholeface unlock, I think that's clutch. You know the others, peoplewill probably call it a gimmick. But that right there alonesold me on just havingthat radar. If it only had that onefeature, I'd take it.- Yeah.I agree, I don't see myself...I do see those gesturesas gimmicky becauseif my hands are dirtyI'm just gonna ask Googleto skip to the next track. To me, instead of walkingover to my phone and thendoing this business which, right now seems really buggy.I mean, of course it's probablygonna improve its software. To me it's a gimmick, andI don't see myself usingthe whole waving gestures thing.I'd rather just askGoogle to do that for me.- Very situational.- But, I do agree with the beingaware of your surroundings. And being able to activatethat face unlock which isreally fast, but not fullysecure at the minute. Now let's talk about audio,I'm not an audiophile,I know you are.Of course we don't havea 3.5mm jack needle. That's something that weare very much used to.You do get some airpods, lightning air podsout of the box, with theiPhone you don't, on the Pixelwhich is interesting.- Yeah.- So you're gonna have toeither get some wirelessearbuds or get a converter or something.- Google Pixel Buds.- Aye, there you go.(Judner laughs)There's a selling point.Speakers, have you had a chance to kindof listen to content?Should we do that right now?- Yeah.Let's throw something on really quickly.I have gotten a chanceto listen to them but, just for refreshers sake, let's just take a quick listen.- Okay.(bright electronic music)- Oh no, wow.So, we're getting a much fullersound with the Pixel here. This sounds a littlebit (electronic music )further away, a little bit lower.(electronic music)Oh man, that low bassin there, everything.Yeah, this is easy for me,definitely go with the Pixel.Just off of this one test, the Pixel definitely soundsa lot better for me.- I think Google will generallydo a good job with the speakers. They've always had good sortof front firing speakers. This time they're not front firing but, they are still pretty good.I am not an audiophile byany means but thankfullywe have yourself here.Right, now let's talk about battery. So we've actually got abigger battery on the iPhone. And in my usage betweenboth of these I think theiPhone definitely hasbetter battery life for me.- That's interesting.Yeah, I mean it's not toosurprising honestly, becausethe iPhone 11 has greatbattery life while the Pixel 4has a, what, 2800 milliamp hour battery?- So far I think I cansafely say that the iPhone 11has better battery life. Now both of these do support fast chargingwhich is great. You get the fast chargerout of the box in the Pixel.Unfortunately, youdon't on the iPhone, so.(Judner sighs)- It's a shame.- It is.- Honestly a shame.- It is something thatwe should definitely get.But it's something that we unfortunatelydon't have with the iPhone. And it is nice to havethat, both of these alsosupport wireless charging.Which is, obviously, for meit's such a big, big thing. Now, in the U.S it'sinteresting, let's talk aboutprice now, right. So in the U.S you doget the iPhone $100 cheapercompared to the Pixel. So technically you couldspend a part of that $100--- On a new charger.- To getting a fast charger. So, you know, that wouldkind of even things upa little bit there, right? In the UK it's kind of weird becauseyou're gonna be payingaround 60 pounds morefor the iPhone. So it's actually flipped, which is kind of weird.- So it's more expensive in the UK,the iPhone's more expensive.- The iPhone's more expensivein the UK, in the U.Sthe Pixel's more expensive, so.What do you think of thepricing points, let'stalk about U.S becausethat's where you're based.- I mean, (sighs) it'sactually a little surprisingthat, for me anyway, thatthe Pixel 4 came in at $800.I thought it'd honestly be $700, $750.But $800, it feels likeit's on the higher endfor the kind of phone thatit is, to be honest with you.- Yeah, definitely. And it seems like Googleare going very aggressivein the UK, maybe they wantto try to capitalize onsome market share in the UK.- Should've did that here too. What's going on Google?- Yeah, do that theretoo so that they can...(Judner laughs)Both of these start at 64,you can get 128 GB option, but on the iPhone you can go even furtherand get a 256 option.Obviously you're going tobe paying more for that.Pricing wise, do you thinkyou're gonna get a better dealon the iPhone in the U.S anyway?(Judner sighs)- Yeah, I'd say so.You know, you got yourselfjust like, not countingoperating systems just in general, you got yourself a phonethat will last longerduring the day.If you want to spendthe money you can go geta fast charger, I recommend it.And overall, you got abrighter display, I thinkthe overall experience at this price,it's not something peoplewould complain about.I don't know, I thinkyou're getting a better dealwith this at $700.- Okay, so I'm gonna putyou on the spot here.- Oh, boy.- If you were to pick just one of thesewhich one would you pick?- Oh man, why you gotta do this Saf?(Saf laughs)Why you gotta do it?- It's gotta be doneman, it's gotta be done.- If I had to pick one...Now, it's tough for me becausemy whole family uses iOS.- Okay.- I'm pretty deep intothe ecosystem so I gottahave that iMessage, it's apretty much a must for me.Now, family aside, just beinga techy, going with whatI know, if I had to pick oneof these I still kind of...I gotta stand by the idea of spending $700and just the overallexperience with the iPhone.- Okay.I think that's fair.- All right, bring the hate.- Oh, that's it.- Pass me my flame shield, please.(both laugh)- I think for me, if I wasin the U.S for $100 cheaper,I would pick the iPhone. In the UK that's adifferent story, and I thinkI'm kind of leaningmore towards the Pixel. But in the U.S, $100 cheaper, I'm not surewhat went wrong with thepricing strategy there.- So weird.- But I think I wouldbe going for the iPhone. But I think both are pretty good deviceswhere they're coming in at.- Oh yeah, absolutely.- You are getting thatstock experience, soboth of these are really good.Which one would you pick, which one would you go for?Definitely drop a comment below, let us know your thoughts. And, if you haven't alreadythen make sure you subscribeto gonna go for that- Well yeah, I know, it'salways tough so we're gonnago like dun, uh, there you go.- Okay, right.I'm leaving all of thisin by the way (laughs)- No you're not, you can't do it,
