Nexus 7 Unboxing! The New Tablet King

The Nexus 7: A Closer Look at Google's Latest Tablet Venture

As we take a closer look at the Nexus 7, it's clear that this tablet is designed to provide a high-quality mobile computing experience. The device itself feels solid and premium, with a back made of shiny plastic that has a soft touch feel to it. The big Nexus logo on the front is accompanied by the Asus branding, giving it a distinct look and feel.

From a dimension standpoint, the 7.8 in x 4.7 in x 0.4 in size and weight of 11.9 oz make it easy to carry around. It's clear that Google has aimed for a device that is both functional and portable. The power button is located on the right-hand side of the device, and when pressed, the Nexus 7 springs to life with its 7-inch display booting up.

The display itself is an impressive 7 inches with a resolution of 1280x800, giving it a high-definition (HD) display at 216 pixels per inch. This makes for crisp and clear visuals, making it ideal for watching videos or browsing the web. The display also features IPS technology, which provides a wide viewing angle and vibrant colors.

Moving on to the performance, the Nexus 7 is powered by an Intel Atom Z2420 dual-core processor, clocked at around 1.3 GHz. This makes it capable of handling demanding tasks with ease. Additionally, the device comes equipped with 1GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage options. The lack of microSD card slot may be a drawback for some users, but overall, the performance is impressive.

When it comes to camera capabilities, the Nexus 7 features a 1.2-megapixel rear-facing camera, which is decent for its purpose. It also has an NFC chip built-in, allowing users to take advantage of Android Beam functionality. Furthermore, the device comes with Jelly Bean version 4.1 as its operating system.

Let's take a closer look around the device. On the left-hand side, there are only two pins and a noise-cancelling microphone port. The power button is located on the right-hand side, along with a lock button. Moving to the top of the device, we find volume buttons up and down. However, it's worth noting that there isn't a traditional headset jack; instead, the 3.5mm audio jack is located at the bottom.

Now that we've taken a closer look at the hardware, let's move on to the software experience. The Nexus 7 boots up with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as its operating system, which provides a clean and user-friendly interface. Upon launching the home screen, it becomes clear that Google has aimed for a seamless transition between tablets and smartphones. We see Chrome now as the default browser, marking an end to the browser's beta phase.

Let's take a look at some of the applications and settings on the device. As expected, we find the usual Android apps and widgets, such as Gmail and Facebook. Moving down to the settings menu, we find the "Tablet" option that allows users to adjust various settings specific to tablet usage.

When comparing the Nexus 7 to its competitor, the Amazon Kindle Fire, it becomes clear that Google has put a lot of thought into designing this device with mobile computing in mind. The tapered edges and sleek design make it feel thinner and lighter than the Kindle Fire, despite being heavier. It will be interesting to see what Amazon does next to compete with the Nexus 7.

In conclusion, the Nexus 7 is an impressive tablet that offers a great balance between performance, display quality, and design. With its Intel Atom Z2420 processor, IPS display, and Android Jelly Bean operating system, it's well-equipped for a wide range of mobile computing tasks. The device also features a sleek design and user-friendly interface, making it an attractive option for those looking for a high-quality tablet experience.
