**The Advantages of Getting a Nexus Phone**
If you're considering purchasing a new smartphone, one option to consider is getting a Nexus phone. Nexus phones are known for their excellent developer support, which means that they will receive updates and security patches faster than other Android devices. This is because Google develops the software for these phones themselves, ensuring that they get the latest version of Android and any bug fixes or security updates as soon as they're available.
**Greater Developer Support**
So, what does this mean for you? It means that if you have a Nexus phone, you'll be able to test your apps on them to make sure that everything works flawlessly. This is particularly important for developers who want to ensure that their apps are working correctly and are compatible with different devices. The Nexus phones will also receive software updates more frequently than other Android devices, which means that you can expect your phone to stay up-to-date and secure for longer.
**No Manufacturer Bloat**
Another advantage of getting a Nexus phone is that there's no manufacturer bloatware on these devices. This means that you won't find unnecessary apps pre-installed on the device that you don't want or need. For example, if you're running an unlocked HSPA+ version of the Galaxy Nexus, you won't find any apps from Verizon or Samsung that you didn't install yourself. This is a big plus for users who like to have control over what's on their phone and don't want to be forced to use features they don't need.
**Longer Support and Lifespan**
The third advantage of getting a Nexus phone is the longevity or support that you get with these devices. Google's Nexus program has been around since 2010, and even now, only 8% of Android phones are running the latest version of Android (Ice Cream Sandwich). The first Nexus phone to receive this update was the Galaxy Nexus, followed by the Nexus S a few months later. However, Nexus phones have generally received updates faster than other Android devices, sometimes even before they were released to the public. This means that you can expect your Nexus phone to stay up-to-date for longer and will likely get multiple software updates, not just one.
**Comparing to Other Phones**
To put this into perspective, let's compare Nexus phones to other Android devices. The Galaxy S with T-Mobile (also known as the Vibrate) was a great device at the time, but it didn't receive software updates as frequently as Nexus phones did. In fact, by the time 2.2 and 2.3 were released for the Galaxy S, those updates had already become old news. This is why rooting your phone or getting an alternative Android device can be a good way to get the latest version of Android, but for consumers who don't want to do that, Nexus phones are a great option.
**Conclusion**
Overall, the advantages of getting a Nexus phone make them a great choice for anyone looking for a reliable and up-to-date smartphone experience. With excellent developer support, no manufacturer bloatware, and a longer lifespan than many other Android devices, Nexus phones are definitely worth considering. Whether you're a consumer who wants to stay current with the latest software updates or a developer who needs a phone that can test your apps thoroughly, a Nexus phone is an excellent choice.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys it's Dave here from phone.com and in this video I'm giving you the top three reasons or top three advantages to buying a Nexus branded Android smartphone over just about any other type of Android smartphone out there so obviously you can make an argument for against the Nexus lineup but for the purpose of this video I'm doing an argument for it giving you the reasons why I actually picked up the Galaxy Nexus and also why I plan on buying the next Nexus phone once it drops with Android 5 .0 Jelly Bean so the first reason is developer support um and basically what that means is this is the phone or the Nexus is the phone that app developers are actually using to test their apps on to make sure that everything works flawlessly to make sure there's no bugs or for Scrolls issues or anything like that so what does that mean for you it means that if you have a Nexus phone you're going to get greater developer support your phone is going to run the apps you know the way the developer meant it to be ran and um you know you're just going to have a better experience but it's kind of like a double-edged sword because in the beginning when you get a Nexus phone for example when I got the Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.0 a lot of the apps were actually broken so it's kind of backwards I mean a lot of the apps were incompatible with the Galaxy Nexus because developers hadn't yet uh made their apps compatible with it but a few months down the line um everything was sorted out you know now this phone I mean pretty much every description that you see with a uh app it says it works on the Galaxy Nexus so that's an advantage um the next Advantage is that there's no manufacturer blow Weare on this guy I mean that's an awesome thing um obviously the Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus has a few apps on there from Verizon this is the unlocked HSPA plus version um and if you look at it I mean there's just no apps on here from T-Mobile which is the carrier I'm running it on um there's no apps from Samsung it's just pretty much pure Google and obviously that's you know something that you're going to like a lot if you don't want things that you on your phone that you haven't installed yourself obviously you could get a lot of stuff that you know it's value added uh by the carrier manufacturer but I don't know personally I like to have the choice and I feel like you know if you really wanted something there's an app for that so that's the second advantage and the third one and probably the main reason why you'd want to get a Nexus phone is the longevity or the support that you get with this guy so this guy's running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich obviously ice cream sandwich has been out since November and yet you know only 8% of the phones out there are actually running it so and the first one being the Galaxy Nexus um the next phone after the Galaxy Nexus was the Nexus S and obviously it took about 3 or 4 months for it to get that and a lot of people were complaining about that saying oh it's a Nexus phone supposed to get updated fast but the reality is it still got updated a lot faster than most of the other Android phones out there and even new Android phones uh before they even launched so getting an Nexus keeps you updated and not only that I mean it's not about just the speed of updates it's also how many updates you get as far as the lifespan of the phone so if you look at this chart right now you can see that the the uh Nexus phone in this case it's the HC Nexus 1 it was getting updated to the next version of Android a lot more often a lot faster and um basically longer than any other Android phone and it was compar it was like basically comparative to the iPhone um at that time which was always getting the next version depend even if uh it was the older model so basically what that means is the Nexus is pretty much the only phone that has the same longevity as does a phone like the iPhone and you know that's something I really noticed I mean I got the Galaxy S with T-Mobile which was called the vibrant it had 2.1 when it came um and I was really hoping to get 2.2 cuz all the speed improvements and whatnot and by the time I got 2.2 um 2.3 had already been released so it's almost already like old news and I always felt like I was one step behind with that phone obviously I rooted it and got the new version on there but most consumers aren't going to do that so that's definitely a disadvantage to not getting an NEX phone because with an Nexus phone you don't have to worry about that and if you do like rooting well you know no phone's better supported in the developer Community than the Nexus phones anyway so that's pretty much I mean the main reasons I mean you get updated to the latest version of Android and your phone lasts a lot longer um you're going to have the phone that developers are actually using their apps to test on and also you're not going to have manufacturer blow around here taking up memory for no reason and also I mean you don't have to scroll through a whole bunch of pages that you don't have to I mean definitely a lot to love there anyways just wanted to make a quick video about that um that's pretty much it for me thank you for watching the videohey guys it's Dave here from phone.com and in this video I'm giving you the top
