NEW iPad Pro Magic Keyboard's SURPRISING Best Feature...

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthe best new feature on Apple's new magic keyboard isn't the aluminum even though that's really nice it also isn't the added row of function keys even though those come in clutch it's not the faster charging it's not the scratch protection it's not even the typing experience as good as that is all that's great but the best feature isn't even listed on the website and that's the Simplicity it's simple just simple enough it's not too simple like the previous version you want to ditch it and go tablet mode it's not going to fight you get the band back together it's a snap in terms of functionality it's the minimum viable keyboard experience but it's dialed up to the maximum level of enjoyment everything you want is here while everything Superfluous disappears I guess that is kind of magical isn't it hey it's Chris before I give you my full featured wellth thought out magic keyboard review for the brand new iPad Pro here just want to give you some First Impressions some feedback so if you're making a buying decision right now then at least hopefully you'll be able to get a bunch of your questions answered right now we're going to get into the typing the new keys the new charging everything but first this is a keyboard case and I just want to address whether or not for the price you're actually getting enough protection from this iPads are expensive pro iPads are the most expensive so look first things first the iPad itself is thinner and now you have the option to add this to the magic keyboard and it's going to be more rigid you know you're not going to have to worry about sitting on it also it's going to keep your iPad from getting scratched you do have that scratch protection but then last but not least it does stick out around the edges just a little bit so that your nice iPad metal is not going to bump into something on the edge now the metal hinge here is showing and that's interesting because when your iPad's all folded up and you put it on a slippery wooden desk like this it's kind of a little slippery I guess when you're opening it up I know you're here to talk about the typing and all the new buttons but I do also just have to say the thing I love about the magic keyboard in this form and in the previous form is just how simple it is I don't want something with a giant bumper usually most of the time personally I do want something that looks really good and this looks amazing okay let's get to the typing here's the thing I noticed so far as a longtime magic keyboard user the previous version is something that I called my favorite typing experience for the iPad ever and this actually manages to improve on it just a bit I'm not aware of Apple saying the key travel or anything is different in any way shape or form versus the previous version but I noticed a little bit of a difference it's not quite so Punchy here it's very satisfying the key travel is just on point they really dialed it in I love the way that it types I could type on this thing all day long it's so good I'm not sure if it's the metallic casing here or what but they actually type a little softer and in my unboxing I said that that was a little bit unexpected I feel like typing on here just feels a little bit more refined absolutely picking a keyboard for your iPad is so hard because there are some great options I do have the new Logitech combo touch series coming my way it's not here yet but get subscribed if you want to see me compare it to this and many other key keyboards like I always do loving the backlit Keys here that is very useful of course I also love that the caps lock has the green indicator light there the function keys are here for whatever reason and they're awesome maybe the best two function keys are the ones on the end we've got an Escape key now that is awesome you don't have to set up some weird workaround also you can lock it right here with a button press and for a lot of these functions you'd be like well I could just lock it by reaching up here and tapping here I could control the volume by just using the physical keys I could do this or that function by swiping down and getting the control center well yeah you can do all of that and that's probably why Apple didn't have that function row there in the first place they were trying to simplify things but it turns out it's easier it's nicer if you're just resting after typing you got your palms resting here and you want to adjust the contrast it's nicer to do it here than having to reach up same with the volume nicer to do that here than having to mess with changing you know play pause and the volume in the notification in the control center there you know what one of my favorite buttons is in the function row there the button with the microphone that's right the dictation button yes finally a dedicated dictation button I use that all the time I just have to double tap on the control or some other shortcut to activate that it's great when something becomes less buried it wasn't long ago where Apple upgraded the dictation functionality for the iPad where you can type and dictate and not have to reactivate dictation when you start typing you can just go back and forth and use whatever's best now it's easier than ever one question I've been getting a lot so I'll just answer it here is people are saying is it hard to press the function keys or do your fingers tap the top here well no they don't this is completely open and accessible here I'm not running into this at all I'm just doing it right now to show you but no if I come in and tap on these it's really easy to get to you know what else is really easy to get to maybe the easiest it's ever been to get to would be my productivity course my free form course all of my courses they're 50% off right now cuz I'm celebrating the launch with you of the new iPads and all these great accessories so I'll link the coupon it's actually just a link you can click on down below would you like me to talk a little bit about this metallic surface here one other question I'm getting a lot of is number one what's it like you know how does it feel does it get scratched up or banged up easily you know I've been using it for several days here it's very Mac like so if you're used to wearing a watch and having to be careful that you don't scratch things up because you wear a watch with the metal on your MacBook you know well yeah the same thing applies here but even there my wrist is sitting off enough that I don't even have to mess with that but the real question I've been getting about this aluminum here is what keeps it from scratching up the screen well the answer is it's mostly just flat so the trackpad that's a re recessed in a little bit the keys are also recessed in a little bit so you kind of end up with just a flat surface here there really isn't anything sticking out that can scratch the screen so you don't have to worry about that in terms of the looks though it looks incredible in person it's great it just has a more premium feel you know like there's nothing wrong with the old magic keyboard in that material in fact I'm glad that that material stuck around for the outer shell the outer casing I originally thought everything was going to be metallic but I'm glad it's not because when I throw this in the backpack or when I'm traveling like I just went to New York and I was packing and I had a lot of stuff stuffed into my backpack well there's more peace of mind that your gear is going to be all right in a crowded piece of luggage or a gear bag when it's not all metal it just feels a little bit different too it's kind of cool to the touch you can see you're going to get some oils from your hands on there that just happens same thing with the keys here but we will get into the new trackpad it's bigger it's got haptics and the haptics mean you're going to get some feedback when you click and also the haptics there are powered by the iPad so if I remove this no clicks it's just like the Mac kind of when it's off you're not going to get any clicks but as soon as I connect it yep it's working I'm getting that feedback and unlike some of the cheap thirdparty models I can click in all the corners just fine no issues there and of course I can use gestures and it's so responsive from my perspective there isn't a more responsive trackpad from any of the third parties there's some good ones and there's some that I've seen make improvements like Logitech definitely made some improvements from the first combo touch but number one this is metallic also and you can't underestimate the feel the difference that nice materials make in the Pro premium experience here it's just nice but it's also bigger I really showed the difference in the unboxing video between this and now the previous model which is what the iPad Air uses now and it's just nicer to have the bigger one because if you're dragging stuff especially when this is hooked up to an external display you don't have to like drag it run into the edge and get a placeholder finger going and then keep dragging you just have that extra room in real estate to work with and it is nice yes but how heavy is it is it lighter than the previous magic keyboard well you already know that the iPad itself is lighter right but the magic keyboard functionally for me does not feel super light in comparison to the old magic keyboard and iPad Pro combo truly I would say it more or less feels the same whatever the actual specs and weights may or may not be but at the same time you don't want it to be too light and I'll tell you why cuz when this is set up you don't want to tap on this and have the whole thing fall over right so it has to actually have a certain amount of weight and heft and it has just the right amount I think to be sturdy to not get tipped over when you tap even on the top even pretty hard so this go round I'm really not going to be complaining about the weight cuz I'm just so happy with how this thing feels and works but Feast your eyes on this new Port back here you can tell the shape's a little different can't you it was like perfectly spherical and circular last time this little Port is for pass through charging only so this is not for plugging in USBC or Thunderbolt access series at least he got slightly faster charging in the back here that counts for something and that brings us to whether or not this thing is worth it based on just my initial feelings and thoughts and usage without having gone super duper in depth well it's really not hard if you want the best typing experience in the simplest packaging and I got to say the Simplicity is really half of what makes this so great on top of the looks and the materials and everything else the iPad is a Transformer it's a shape shifter sometimes it's a tablet sometimes it's more laptop like and the easier it is to transform the better this is super easy and accessible to get into tablet mode or not so in many ways that Simplicity is everything but I've tested all the keyboards the crappy third party ones the really nice expensive options the medium priced options and nothing came close to the old magic keyboard and this one has improved in meaningful ways in all the Departments and areas that I really cared about so is it a Buy in my book it's an instant buy I realize it's expensive but you do get what you pay for and what you get here is just a superb typing aesthetic and maybe above all simple and easy to use experience that's it for today's video let me know what questions you have for the full in-depth review as I spend more time with this don't forget to check out the courses 50% off celebrating the new iPad's not going to last forever that's linked up down below and I'll catch you in the next video laterthe best new feature on Apple's new magic keyboard isn't the aluminum even though that's really
