The Significance of Software in Mobile Cameras

In today's world of smartphones, having a good camera is no longer a unique selling point. With the advancement of technology, many phones now come equipped with high-quality cameras that can rival those found on dedicated cameras. However, I firmly believe that software plays a crucial role in determining the quality of a phone's camera. Google has shown this with their Pixel series, where good software and processing power make even a single lens camera capable of producing excellent results.

The use of extra lenses, such as telephoto zoom, ultra-wide lenses, or even depth information, becomes superfluous if the software is not up to par. While these additional features can be beneficial, they are only as good as the underlying technology that powers them. In other words, a single lens camera can still produce great results with good software and processing power. The importance of extra lenses lies in their ability to enhance specific aspects of photography, such as telephoto zoom or ultra-wide shots.

In my own experience, I have found that the camera on my phone is one of its standout features. While it's not a dedicated camera, I've been impressed by its quality and versatility. The ultra-wide lens, which I think is a great addition to any phone, has become an essential feature for me. It's amazing how much more you can capture with a wider angle lens, and it's opened up new possibilities for photography.

The Meaning of Life: 42?

As we explore the world of technology, it's easy to get caught up in the latest trends and innovations. But sometimes, it's essential to take a step back and ponder the bigger questions. What is the meaning of life? Is it something that can be solved through technology, or is it something more abstract? I've always been fascinated by this question, and my answer is quite simple: 42.

Of course, this is not just a random number; it's actually the answer to one of the most famous math problems in history. Douglas Adams' book "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" features a character named Zaphod Beeblebrox, who claims that the answer to life, the universe, and everything is 42. While this may seem like a nonsensical answer, it actually highlights the complexity and mystery of life.

As I reflect on my own journey as a YouTuber, I've come to realize that the meaning of life is not something that can be easily answered. However, what I do know is that pursuing one's passions and interests can bring great fulfillment. My journey into YouTube began with reviewing phones and technology, but it has evolved over time to include more diverse topics.

Advice for Aspiring Technology Journalists

If you're interested in becoming a technology journalist or YouTuber, there are a few key lessons I've learned along the way. First and foremost, building a strong online presence is crucial. This means creating high-quality content that resonates with your audience and engaging with them on social media.

I started my journey as a video producer for a company website called Trusted Reviews. While this experience was invaluable, it also taught me the importance of adaptability and being open to new opportunities. When I left the company to pursue YouTube full-time, I was hesitant but ultimately grateful for the experience. It allowed me to hone my skills in video production, writing, and presentation.

My advice would be to focus on building a strong online presence while also developing your technical skills. This means learning about photography, videography, and editing software such as Premiere Pro. Being able to script, write, shoot, and present content with confidence is essential for success in this field.

Growing a Beard: The Challenges and Rewards

As we wrap up our Q&A session, I'd like to address one final question that caught my attention: growing a beard. While I've never been a fan of beards myself, I do have friends who swear by them. However, I must admit that it can be a challenge to grow a well-groomed beard.

According to my girlfriend Sarah, who's currently testing out the waters with her own ginger beard, there are some essential tips and tricks to keep in mind. First and foremost, patience is key. Growing a beard takes time, effort, and dedication. It's not something that can be achieved overnight, but with persistence and the right techniques, it's definitely possible.

The Future of Tech Journalism: Global or Local Focus?

As I look to the future, I'm often asked about my plans for covering tech news globally versus locally. While my primary focus remains on providing content relevant to a global audience, I do believe that there's value in catering to specific regions and interests.

When it comes to giveaways, I make sure to include international prizes to cater to my global audience. However, when planning my videos, I tend to focus on brands that are widely available or have a strong presence globally. This allows me to cover topics and trends that are relevant to my audience, while also showcasing products and services from around the world.

In conclusion, as we navigate the complex landscape of technology and smartphones, it's essential to remember that software plays a crucial role in determining camera quality. While extra lenses can enhance specific aspects of photography, good software and processing power make even a single lens camera capable of producing great results. Whether you're a tech journalist, YouTuber, or simply someone looking to improve your smartphone photography skills, I hope this Q&A session has provided valuable insights and advice.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso happy new year everyone it's 2019 I thought I'd kick off with a bit of a Q&A ask me anything video because you guys are at the heart of this channel the community is what makes me able to do this incredible job for living and without your support your feedback and of course your questions well know this is possible so you're gonna send me a whole bunch of questions on Twitter and Instagram so let's get right into it and the first question from C concept creator is one part of making YouTube videos do you enjoy the most and what is your aim when actually making videos also a multitasking yeah I think it's quite impressive what makes me why I enjoy it is because I get to test the latest and greatest shiny tech first and also give you guys my sort of opinions and thoughts on it I've always been like really reap a tional about technology and gadgets and so being able to test stuff review stuff and share with you is honestly it's the best job in the world and very very lucky Noah play games - what made you become a tech youtuber I'm going to take you to it because as I say technology's always been my passion I'm not sure I could do fashion I'm not sure I could be a fashion or lifestyle influencer maybe I'm wrong let me know in the comments but Tech's always been in my blood my dad used to help me build pcs when I was 10 11 years old obviously not that well cuz I just notice mine's gone for a blue screen of death and shutdown so I won monies fixing that's a good stuff what's the cheapest piece of tech I carry around everyday most of this stuff is quite expensive actually I tell you what I did just invest in I'm not sure you can call it tech but it's this it's just a little white card but I use it to control the white balance on my camera you can set the white balance this is like a nice natural paper white and even the lighting in this room sucks a little bit this helps me to get a slightly better video what phone am i most excited for in 2019 from neshama in the next pixel the next Google pixel I think Google needs to do something quite big I think this year's pixel 3 was just a bit of an incremental upgrade I wanna see a big upgrade also the Galaxy S 10 hopefully in february/march mega controller 5 asks what's my thought on the new galaxy foldable phones I think I'll see a lot more at CES and also MWC we're see the new blue screen of death ignore that back to me back to the QA folding phones have been really interesting because it's gonna be the first generation of them so there's gonna be problems they might be a little bit ugly and they'll be super expensive but it's the first gen of what I think will become quite exciting Tech and if you think you might have a small screen but you can open up into a tablet that could be quite useful so I'm really looking forward to seeing what Samsung and maybe some other companies will be doing with foldable tech simply Sherpa my one says what's my opinion on the growing RAM size in smartphones so the Google pixel 3 has 4 gigs of RAM the new McLaren Edition 1 plus 60 has 10 gigs of ram 10 gigabytes of RAM which is more than most laptops does it make a difference in the real world no it doesn't really I'm sure they'll find some super technical way it does improve things but with how current apps are developed with the current phones that we have that kind of RAM is just marketing I think personally maybe there's a small upgrade there but not something you'll see in day-to-day life so I guess it makes it more future-proof I'm always for more advanced more powerful phones but it's not necessary so since my PC's packed up and that's a really boring background let's go over here for a second answer some more questions MuRF TK asks what's my microphone of choice well actually I'm wearing it right now this is the Sennheiser me2 microphone which is actually into this zoom h1 recorder because if I use the audio from my panasonic gh4 camera it will be terrible and this is a lot nicer I can do that ASMR stuff a company that's weird let's not do that so yeah Sennheiser me2 it's a few years old but it does the job a kneebar teen 94 says where do you actually start to learn how to build a PC and there's a really good question because I sort of started building pcs when I was about 10 or 11 with my dad so if you've got a family member who's a bit techie and knows how to build computers that's a good start for everyone else there's a million YouTube videos Austin Evans did one a few years ago Marcus caught PC centric has some fantastic PC build videos I've even made a few myself although I'm a bit more mainstream I like to also overclock and have some pre-built one sometimes I can build a PC takes me a little bit longer there's a few issues right now as as you saw but YouTube videos there's a lot of them favorite phone of the year how well we meet 20 Pro I think not sponsored not hashtag ad I'm just using it the big battery life the triple camera sets up it's a really nice phone actually if you want to know more about what my top phones were for this year click at the top right where I sat down with Tommy from gadgets boy in LA and we talked about what the best phones between 18 were and also what we're excited about in 2019 so after this video given watch that well each Saleem says what do you think of the LG v 40 well I wish I had more of an opinion because unfortunately LG's mobile PR division here in the UK doesn't seem to want to talk to me or offer me review samples so I hear it's a good phone I hear it's not the best phone out there but a little play with it but a review sample of the V 15 extreme would be nice Marty says what's my favorite hobby besides YouTube well honestly YouTube has kind of taken over my life I work on it every day outside of making videos I like to play games sometimes I play quite a bit of pudgy on the PC with my brother as I also have an Xbox one X and a ps4 Pro I'm very lucky to have those consoles and so right now I'm playing a bit red dead I like to travel I get to travel a lot with being a youtuber which is amazing I love to see new places and obviously be with my friends and go the purple do all those normal things now this is really interesting and a couple of people have asked this Ashley Lester photo and Leo's asks about sponsored videos didn't sponsor videos so this is a great question and something I wanted to talk about for a while so every channel pretty much every YouTube channel or Instagram or Twitter influence and does some sort of sponsored content hashtag add hashtag spawn all that stuff and at the end of the day it pays the bills we it's my full-time job I'm very lucky to do this job I love it but it does help me do it full-time and be able to afford to reinvest in the latest tech because apple doesn't send me any products i buy every iphone and every ipad that comes out so I can test it and I'll show you guys so I need to make a bit of money to by stuff now the crucial thing is I will never do a sponsored video for a brand that I don't like believe in or have worked with closely I turn down a lot of work because I've perhaps don't believe in the product even if they were offering lots of money because at the end of the day this channel is about giving consumer tech advice buying advice helping you guys to learn what's good what's not good and just showing you some cool tech I'll never do a sponsored review people do but you can't do that with in good conscience if it's paid it's no longer impartial so I'll never do a sponsor review it's so important to me that it's transparent and I can to the best of my ability maintain integrity because without it you will just unsubscribe and I am constantly trying to find that balance between not doing too much but also needing to do a bit so then reinvest it into the channel so I'm not perfect I do make mistakes but as long as you keep being honest with me and feedback your thoughts then I always take that on board I read every single comment what do I think about the iPhone I hate the iPhone is horrible no I'm joking iPhones are great obviously they were expensive and you have to be sort of a vest in the Apple ecosystem I think to make it worth paying that money but I mean they're great phones I'm an Android user personally but iPhone 10r is good value of the 10s is tears Mac's are great phones and the cameras are so much better this year so I love iPhones when did you earn your first money I remember about nine months into starting my channel I got my first Amazon check and I was for about a hundred and nine dollars and after like almost a year of work that's the first money I earned so I was so proud of that I kept the check for a little while because I was like I'm making money from YouTube when did I decide the YouTube was the thing I wanted to do and 2015 beginning 2015 I did not plan to do this for a job I just did it as a hobby on the side I was kind of just coming up a law degree and I was doing some other stuff but beginning of 2015 so nearly four years ago I started it did on the side for a bit then became full time so not that long in the scheme of things when starting YouTube how do you get the initial views this is a tricky one and for the first year I didn't really get any views but just consistency persistence keep uploading it and if you're passionate about it and you enjoy making it then eventually eventually have to quite a lot of time not overnight but you'll get more and more viewers more subscribers and then as the viewers go up slightly Google will obviously rank that slightly higher each time and you'll just trickle them snowball and eventually hopefully you'll get some people watching your videos I also found it useful commenting on other people's channels so they then obviously saw my username and I started discussion with them on social media and their YouTube comments so talk to other tech youtubers talk to other people get engaged in the sort of community in the conversation with other people and then maybe they'll come check out your stuff what's my Frankenstein phone I would say the design of the note 9 the camera of the pixel the RAM of the oneplus sixty McLaren Edition I'll actually also a high refresh rate like the razor phone on the asus rog phones like 90 Hertz 120 Hertz that would be nice on a phone how many camera lens is on the back of a phone before we say enough is enough three four five it's interesting isn't it because the Google pixel has one camera lens and yet has pretty much the best camera on any phone right now honestly I think the answer is it all comes down to the software that's what Google has shown with the pixel phones and if you have good software good processing then extra lenses can just be good for telephoto zoom ultra wide lens maybe better depth information but fundamentally as long as you have a good single lens the rest is a bit superfluous but the more the better and I really do like the ultra wide lens you get on the May 20 Pro I use it way more than I thought Carlos asks what's the meaning of life I think the answer is clearly 42 as a fan of your channel based in Sydney when you plan your videos and tech to cover do you think globally or locally what are your plans for the future if you're watching this in India or Australia or America or the UK it's all just as important to me you all have feedback and your opinions are just as important and you're still a viewer and hopefully a subscriber so while it's kind of tricky to be able to cater my videos to entirely global audience where I'm in the UK I try to cover brands that are widely available when I do giveaways that all International giveaways not just the UK what do you think about pinhole cameras on the Galaxy S ten so this is what we're gonna see I think in a lot of 2019 phones the knotch being replaced with like a corner notch or something like a little hole stamp a pinhole for the selfie camera so the s10 I think is almost guaranteed given the leaks we've seen to come with this and then of the day it's still a notch you're still losing a bit of screen if you go for a full view video you're still gonna have a bit cut out but I suppose is an improvement on a notch but it's not that much different just like a corner notch so it'll be interesting to see what they actually come up with but I don't think it's gonna be that revolutionary how did I get started as a youtuber I can answer that any advice for an aspiring technology journalist this is interesting because I like to think I'm kind of a halfway house between a tech journalist and a influencer or proper youtuber I used to work at a company website called trusted reviews and that's kind of where I got started with my sort of tech knowledge and Industry contacts and being able to produce video I was a video producer for the website so I was with him for a couple of years that was good experience but they actually hired me based on my youtube channel I had about 30,000 subscribers they said we wanted a video producer they hired me and then actually at that point this is like three years ago now I thought that would be a better career move because YouTube is YouTube I didn't know how far this would go so I took it that took the job in London it was a great experience really upped my game I think in terms of journalism and being professional and contacts and things so that was a great bit of experience but what was interesting was that they did hire me as a video producer based on my YouTube channel because they could see I could do and end video production I could script it write it shoot it all that good stuff and a lot of companies brands want to see that so if you can do that as well if you can shoot a video put it in Premiere Pro it's it maybe even present or voiceover then that's a good start when you went to college which course did you pursue I did a law degree at the University of Exeter which feels like a lifetime ago Pablo asks how are you so rich in all caps Pablo's getting very excited about this I'm really not I do okay on YouTube I Drive a used Ford Fiesta and live in a small two-bedroom house they won the Lamborghinis parked outside yeah unfortunately maybe one day and the final question from South East Asian spy great name can I grow a beard the answer is yes but not well it goes ginger so I tend not to but my girlfriend Sarah who's sitting right here wants me to but it hurts if you've ever tried it you get the scratchiness I've gotta push through I don't want to do it thank you so much for your questions guys if you wanna see more Q&A videos like this let me know in the comments below and also hit that like and subscribe button happy new year I hope 2019 gets off to an amazing start for you and I hope you'll continue to support me and follow me and watch my videos because I love doing this stuff and sharing the awesome new tech with you guys I'll be in Vegas for CES in a couple days so stay tuned for all of that and I'll catch you next time right here on the tech job that's for watching it's coldso happy new year everyone it's 2019 I thought I'd kick off with a bit of a Q&A ask me anything video because you guys are at the heart of this channel the
