Driving On A Melting Ice Lake

**Swiss Mountain Adventure: A Journey Through Snow, Ice, and Cars**

### Arrival in Switzerland and Initial Impressions

Hello, one and all! Welcome to *Scene Through Glass* and welcome to Andat in Switzerland. I’m here because I managed to blag my way onto an Alfa Romeo VIP customer experience. Now, I’m not a VIP customer, but when I heard about this trip, I knew it was one I had to go on. It’s not a meteor event, so I’m flying by the seat of my pants when it comes to filming—I have no idea how much I’ll be able to capture or even what exactly I’ll be doing. But I’m excited because Switzerland is amazing. Every time I come here, I think, “Why don’t I spend more time in Switzerland?” Anyway, there’s going to be driving—hopefully, we’re going to be jumping into an Alfa Romeo 124 Spider on the snowy roads. We’re also hopefully taking a passenger ride on an ice track, and we’re hopefully going to be jumping into the new series 4 595 as well. Cars galore! There’s also skiing, sparring, and eating—so no matter what, it’s going to be an awesome 48 hours. I’m going to bring you guys along with me, so let’s get started.

### The First Challenge: Too Warm for Ice Driving

Believe it or not, there was a small issue in the fact that it is too warm. We’ve come to the Swiss mountains in February, and it’s too warm! Apparently, the sort of ice racing track has melted a little bit. Currently, as you probably just saw, the 124 Spider is doing some testing in this car park to see if the sort of drifting snow-ice driving experience can be done here. Obviously, it’s not quite special, so they’re trying really hard and hoping that the ice lake will freeze over. Anyway, as I said, this isn’t really a hands-on driving experience—it’s more of a passenger experience. So, it’ll still be fun to go sideways in a car park in a 124 Spider… but yeah, it feels pretty cold to me. But apparently, it’s not cold enough—Ryan, right?

### The First Drive: The Alfa Romeo 124 Spider

I’m now about to take the 124 Spider for a drive on the Swiss mountain roads. I’m a bit high in my seat—it looks a bit weird! The roof is closed for now, and we’re rolling out. This is going to be quite the experience—they’ve literally given me the keys to this car and said, “Go have fun.” There’s no route planned; I have no idea where I am. Oh, got to remember which side of the road to drive on—it’s snowing, and we’re in a manual. Okay, now, obviously, my last experience in a 124 Spider was in very sunny Italy. This is going to be a completely different experience, but it doesn’t mean it’ll be any less fun.

I think we’re definitely going to keep the roof up—these things do sound good! Oho, it’s windy… oh, it’s windy—it feels like there’s a storm brewing. It sounds so good—I’m putting the window back down. Hells yeah, this thing is just so *pokey* all the time. Kind of mad because it literally feels like an episode of *Game of Thrones* out here—winter is coming! There was snow blowing sideways… woah, that was slippery—that was definitely slipper-salary, but this car you can’t help but drive fast—it just wants to absolutely be thrashed everywhere.

### Scenic Pullover and Reflections

Oh, there we go—there’s a little nice place to pull over. Let’s go up there, do a couple of scenic photos, and head back up… and we’re back! Not the most groundbreaking drive—just up and down a twisty mountain road—but I enjoyed it all the same. I do think this car gets better looking every time I see it—it’s so squirmy. I was not drifting, though… I still need to go to drifting school because I’m sure that route would have been a lot more fun if I was able to throw it around in the corners. I’m just a bit too much of a wimp, especially when it’s not my car.

---

### Relocating to the Ice Track

Back at our ski lodge vibe and the drifting experience is still going on out there—as I say, they all passenger ride, so the sort of customer VIPs have to go first. I’m going to hang tight, probably go inside and get warm and dry because a lot of my gear got very wet just then—as you would probably.

---

### The Ice Track Experience

Oh, does look fun out there… how we doing, boys? All right, yeah—we’ve now relocated to the ice track. Despite global warming trying to ruin our day by melting everything, apparently they found an area of the track which is not melted. Fingers crossed that’s true and we’re not going to go plunging through the ice in a 124 Spider. But yeah, this morning’s been wicked… I’m really glad that this part is still happening because, as fun as it is going sideways in a car park could probably do that in Scotland. Come all the way to Switzerland—it’s quite nice to be on an ice lake you know?

---

### Passenger Ride and Fun Times

I can see a car all the way out there in the distance… let’s see how this goes. Have to—I’m sorry, I’m so sorry… it’s okay, it’s a busy day. No, I wanted to let *you* drive—not me! Oh no—still, it’s fun though; I’m sure you’re much better than I am. No, I don’t think so—he said he said you’re a good PR—he’s lying—he’s not go for the egg… come on, you can hit him man—I believe in you move my understand.

The good thing is—maybe go straight ahead and Discord and push down everything you have just hope… come on—it will spin no problem—we have space. Thank you very much anyway—thank you for trying!

---

### Conclusion: A Day to Remember

We’re leaving the ice track now—obviously, this is just a sort of customer event, timing, and everything like that is a little bit tight, and as you heard when we got in the car unfortunately I couldn’t do the actual driving on the ice lake. It’s giving me massive driver itch—I’m now definitely going to come back to my [local area] and do some more… and it’s made me realize I really want to sign up to one of these full-on ice driving experiences. So, think a few emails are going to be going back forth to Alfa Romeo saying, “Can you please let me have a 124 to take to Lapland?” Anyway, I think it’s about lunchtime now but we’re going to head back to the main area, meet up with the other guys from the UK, and make a plan from there.

---

### Final Thoughts

We’ve come into the center of the town because the other guys are renting skis now. I’ve chosen not to actually ski because just came across a 695 Biposto with the dog ring gearbox that is here—so tomorrow I’m going to get up early and take that for a drive, which means there’s not really any time for me to ski *IID* do like one run—one run this afternoon—and I didn’t think it was worth it, so I’ve given up skiing for driving. Which I think is a sensible uh… decision but as I said now—it’s going to kill some time whilst the other guys get their ski gear and then we’re going up into the mountains for lunch.
