The Ford RS Line: A Serious Machine with Performance Traction and Precision

According to Yast Capito, the boss of the Ford RS Department, the car we're about to discuss is "a very serious machine with performance traction and precision to match far more exotic sports cars." This statement sets the tone for our exploration of the Ford RS Line, a series of high-performance vehicles that embody the spirit of speed and agility. The RS badge is not something to be taken lightly, and this car proves it.

The Car in Question: A Front-Wheel Drive Machine with a Serious Road

The car we're discussing is the RN 85, which has been tweaked and fine-tuned to deliver exceptional performance and handling. Despite being a front-wheel drive vehicle, the RN 85 boasts impressive acceleration and agility, making it a formidable competitor on the road. Yast Capito notes that "it's almost difficult to know where to start" when discussing the car's modifications, which include a new turbocharger, exhaust system, and various tweaks inside the engine to make it stronger and more powerful.

The Engine: A 2.5L 5-Cylinder Beast

The RN 85's engine remains a 2.5L 5-cylinder unit, but with significant upgrades to enhance its performance. The new turbocharger and exhaust system work in tandem to increase the engine's power output, resulting in an astonishing 300 horsepower and 324 lb-ft of torque. This impressive power figure is all the more remarkable considering that the RN 85 still employs front-wheel drive technology.

The Front Suspension: A Technical Marvel

Yast Capito mentions that the front suspension is "so technical" that it's not worth going into further detail here. However, we can infer from his enthusiasm for the car's performance that the front suspension plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional handling and stability. The AO Nuttle system, which he refers to as "a marvel," seems to be an innovative solution to the challenges of front-wheel drive design.

The Exterior: A Visionary's Dream

The RN 85's exterior is a testament to the design vision of its creators, with big brakes, deep side skirts, and a huge diffuser that would make any enthusiast jealous. The spoiler, which Yast Capito describes as "outrageous," adds an air of aggression to the car's appearance, making it look like a purpose-built racing machine.

The Steering: A Sensory Experience

When you get behind the wheel of the RN 85, you'd expect the steering to be intense and responsive, considering the car's impressive power output. Yast Capito notes that this is indeed the case, as the steering provides a sense of feedback and connection to the road that's hard to resist. He describes the experience of driving the RN 85 as "simple" – plant the throttle, steer towards your desired trajectory, and enjoy the ride.

The Ride: Comfortable and Practical

One of the surprises of the RN 85 is its comfort and practicality, which Yast Capito describes as "amazingly comfortable." The car's suspension does an excellent job of absorbing road irregularities, making for a smooth and pleasant driving experience. Whether cruising down the highway or carving through twisty roads, the RN 85 feels like a joy to drive.

The Noise: A Turbocharged Symphony

The RN 85's engine noise is a highlight of the car's character, with Yast Capito praising its five-cylinder turbocharger for producing a sound that's "just like" the ST24. The tuning has been adjusted to emphasize the engine's noise, making it sound more aggressive and dynamic than before.

The Price: A Quarter Million Naira or £4,995

Finally, we come to the price of this remarkable machine – 354,000 naira or £4,995. Yast Capito acknowledges that these are uncertain times, with economic conditions being as they are. However, he makes a compelling argument for why the RN 85 is worth the investment, citing its exceptional performance and usability as reasons to consider it a worthwhile purchase.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enaccording to yast capito basically the boss of the Ford RS Department the car you are looking at here is and I quote a very serious machine with the performance traction and precision to match far more exotic sports cars the RS badge is not something we treat lightly and I believe this car proves it he says only one place to go with a serious car like that a serious Road welcome to the RN 85 the route to Napoleon probably the best driving Road certainly in France possibly in Europe there are no prizes for guessing what happens next they've done so much to this car it's almost difficult to know where to start the engine it's still a 2.5 L 5 but it's got a new turbo a new exhaust all sorts of tweaks inside to make it stronger and more powerful it's got 300 horsepower and 324 lb ft of torque that's astonishing because it's still front-wheel drive the the front suspension is so technical I'm not going to go into it here it's got something called AO nuttle basically it means it doesn't T it that's what they say that's what I say I've driven it it doesn't Tor it it's amazing bigger brakes big deep side skirts to make it look the part and it certainly does that on the road particularly when you get around here at the back I mean this huge great diffuser and the exhaust pipes you could climb into one of those exhaust pipes they're so big same with the spoiler it's outrageous I love it it's fantastic right it's been an awful long time coming this car so it's going to have to be very very special unless you're going to be a little bit disappointed but you know what I am absolutely loving this thing it is quite incredible for a front-wheel drive car it's quite incredible for for any kind of car I think the most impressive bit of all is what they've managed to do with the front suspension it just doesn't under steer at all it puts it power down so neatly only in first gear do you get any wheel spin if you turn the traction control system off put it in second come out of a second gear hairpin and there's just traction and it goes and there is no talks to it I don't understand fully how they do it or how the car does it but it does it the other thing is it's really really fast in a straight line the performance figures that Ford give say it does not to 6 2 in 5.9 seconds we not to 100 in around about 14 now I know that sounds quick but believe me in reality this thing feels a lot quicker than that it is so rapid through the gears particularly in fourth fifth and sixth and that's cuz it's got so much T what else to be like about it the steering you would expect considering how much torque how much power there is you'd expect to be thrown all over the place you'd expect it to weave up the road like a ball of string just doesn't happen you plant the throttle you steer towards an apex you go simple as that the ride is amazingly comfortable as well you look at the exterior of this thing and you see all the wings and the spoilers and the huge great 19in wheels and You' expect of your fings removed on a slightly lumpy road but again it just doesn't happen it's very very usable every day it's not a kind of raw edged over-the-top toy it's not you can use this thing every day and You' get real pleasure out of using it every day but it would not be a pain in the ass to use every day that's quite a recipe to get right actually not so sure about the gear change there's nothing specifically wrong with it but it just feels like a kind of normal ordinary cars gear change it doesn't have that nice kind of Click Click Precision that you'd kind of expect so another thing I love about this car the noise it makes listen five cylinders turbocharge just like the st24 but they've really tuned up the engine noise not the exhaust the engine more than anything to make it sound much more aggressive than the St so now you're thinking that all this costs what sort of 354,000 n £4,995 they want for this car I know there's an economic chill at the moment you can probably see the snow around us which is not really adding to the fun but you have to say that a 25 Grand this much performance in this desirable a car that's so usable I just can't think of anything that beats itaccording to yast capito basically the boss of the Ford RS Department the car you are looking at here is and I quote a very serious
