Unboxing the First Generation iPod Touch: A Closer Look
Hello YouTube, it's Detroit Borg again with another unboxing video. Today, we're going to take a closer look at an iPod touch that I purchased from a reseller on Amazon. The seller described it as refurbished, and upon opening the box, I could see that it looked like an Apple refurbished device. I've already cracked it open just to make sure everything was in order, so let's get started.
The box is labeled as a "Reaper" box from Apple, which I assume is a reference to the company's refurbishment program. Inside the box, we have the iPod touch itself, along with some literature, a dock adapter, USB cable, and earbuds. The earbuds are not wrapped in plastic, so I won't be using them. Let's take a closer look at the iPod touch.
The iPod touch is an 8GB model, as indicated by the label on the bottom of the device. It looks like it's been handled before, but overall, it appears to be in good condition. There are no visible signs of damage or scratches. The device doesn't look brand new, but it's still in good shape.
The next thing I want to check is if there's any charge left in the battery. Let's plug it in and see how long it takes to charge. Ah, looks like it's not fully charged yet. This isn't a surprise, given that it's an older device. Let's move on to the next section.
The first generation iPod touch has exactly the same hardware inside as the iPhone from the same era. I'll grab one of these components and take a closer look at it. As you can see, the iPod is smaller than an iPhone, but still similar in shape. It's also quite thin, which was a notable feature for this device.
One thing that stands out about the design of the first generation iPod touch is the bezel. The bezel is made of black metal and surrounds the entire front of the device. This gives it a distinctive look that sets it apart from other devices of its era. In comparison, the second and third generation iPod touches have stainless steel bezels, which are much shinier.
When you turn the device over, you can see that both the first and second-generation iPod touches have stainless steel backs. However, the third-generation iPod touch has a rounded back, while the first generation has a flattened back. The cutouts for the Wi-Fi receivers also differ slightly between the two devices. The first generation has a rounded oval shape, while the second generation has a notch-shaped cutout.
The sides of both devices are very thin, with the second and third-generation iPod touches looking slightly thinner due to their more tapered edges. However, it's worth noting that the first generation device may be thicker in the middle due to its more angular design.
One notable feature about the first generation iPod touch is the absence of a speaker on the bottom. This was not a common feature for this era of devices, and the iPod touch was one of the few exceptions. Instead, it uses a different sound-making mechanism that produces a distinct "clicking" sound when you power it on or off.
To get a better sense of what this means in practice, I'll try typing on the device while it's powered on. Ah, yes - you can hear the clicking sound that I mentioned earlier. This is quite distinctive and sets the iPod touch apart from other devices of its era.
Finally, let's talk about how to use the iPod touch with a computer. I have my universal dock connected to my iMac, which allows me to easily transfer files between the two devices. To do this, I'll simply plug in the iPod touch using the dock adapter and swap out my iPhone for the device. With everything set up, I can now sync the iPod touch with my computer for the first time.
That's it for today's unboxing video - I hope you enjoyed it! Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more content.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello YouTube It's Detroit Borg again with another unboxing this time we're looking at an iPod touch but not the newest version we're looking at the first gen I bought this from a reseller on Amazon that described it as refurbished so it looks like uh an Apple refurb so I've already cracked it open just to make sure everything was in order so let's go ahead and take a look so we have the box I guess this is a Reaper box from Apple I'm not sure it's an 8 gig iPod touch with the model number on the bottom there it is looks in good shape slide it out looks pretty good doesn't look brand brand new looks like it's been slid across the desk otherwise it's not that scratched up let's see looks like there's no charge okay so we can see 8 gigabyte iPod let's see what else is in the Box there some literature iPod Touch we have a dock adapter USB cable and of course earbuds and they're not wrapped in plastic so I won't be using those all right let's take a look at the first gen iPod itself now this had exactly the same Hardware inside that the iPhone first gen did so let's grab one of those you can see that the iPod is smaller it's shorter it's also quite a bit thinner see if you can compare the two much thinner it's also all Chrome on the back or stainless steel on the back as opposed to the anodized aluminum okay let's take a look at the first generation and the second and third generation iPod Touch now the first thing that you'll notice when you're looking at the front of these is that while they carry the same basic design and shape the iPod touch the first gen iPod Touch has a black bezel this black metal bezel while the second and third generation has a stainless steel bezel which is a lot shinier you turn turn it toward the back you see that they have the same stainless steel back but the third second and third generation has a rounded back while this has a flattened back also the cutouts for the Wi-Fi receivers are a little different this is rounded oval while this has a notch shape if you look at the sides they're both very thin now the second third generation design looks thinner because it's more tapered at the edges this is quite a bit more Square so I'm not sure what's thinner I'd have to um look at the dimensions but U because this is this may be thicker in the middle because it's rounder uh and this is flatter I bet they're either the same or very close now if we compare them side by side we see that both of them have no buttons on the right side but they on the left side on the left side we see that the iPod second and third gen has a volume rocker now strangely the only way to control the volume for the first gen iPod Touch is on the screen here you can control it from outside and it's also important to note that this is the only iPod touch that actually has a speaker in it the first generation didn't have a speaker on the bottom the first generation iPod Touch has a little different bezel design the black bezel actually surrounds the bottom inputs so we have the dock and headphone jack in the same places but they're wrapped around uh with a bezel so it kind of reminds me of the iPod Nano to third gen iPod Nano the second and third gen iPod Touch is made of one piece of of stainless steel so it's one continuous design from back to bezel and on the top the lock switches are in the same place now if we look at the home screen they appear to have very similar screens I see no obvious difference looking at them closely they're the same color same color temperature same resolution now because the first gen iPod didn't have a built-in speaker it has another sound making mechanism it sounds like a a click so let's try and demonstrate that I'm going to go to notes and I'm just going to start typing I don't if you can hear that let me let me go closer again so it's a little clicking sound in fact you can hear it when you power it off and you can hear it when you unlock it again power off unlock so that differs compared to the iPod second and third gen which has a speaker much quieter than an iPhone but a speaker nonetheless so let's try typing on this again again I have my Universal dock here connected to my iMac so all I'm going to do is use the dock adapter take out my iPhone swap it out and let's plug in the iPod touch all right so I'm going to go ahead and sync this for the first time once again that's Detroit Borg with an unboxing of the first generation iPod touch please rate and subscribe thanks for watchinghello YouTube It's Detroit Borg
