The Thousand-Mile Journey to Drag Week 2018
We are currently at Atlanta drag wave for Hot Rod magazine's Drag Week 2018, where we're about to embark on a thousand-mile journey with over 300 drag cars. This event is one of our favorite events of the year and the most grueling drag race in the world. We have five different race days and four different tracks across the country: Darlington, South Carolina; ZMAX in North Carolina; Bristol; and we'll end back here in Atlanta for the last day.
As we prepare to take off on our journey, we're surrounded by over 300 cars that are about to drive over a thousand miles. All of these competitors will be averaging their time since it's one of the most important aspects of winning at each of these classes. The competition is fierce, and only the fastest cars will make it to the end.
We've started our journey here in Atlanta, and we're about to head off to Darlington, South Carolina. Our first stop will be ZMAX in North Carolina. We'll have four different race days, and all of these cars are taking part in right now. The drivers alone will have a lot to do with the success of their team.
We've taken a look around the pits and seen some of the crazy, weird contraptions that the competitors have brought along. One car stands out - a 39 Ford 2-door sedan, which is one of the only parts on this car that hasn't been changed at the front fenders. The driver, who is known for his racing skills, has swapped from a Honda and had to get the horn from a Civic. The car is ready for action.
We've also had a chance to talk to some of the competitors and learn more about their cars and their experiences with Drag Week. One driver mentioned that he hasn't been able to run in four years, so today is his first opportunity to take part in the event. Another driver was excited to be racing at Drag Week for the first time, having traveled from across the country.
As we continue on our journey, we'll have a chance to check out some of the cars that are participating in Drag Week. One car stands out - an '69 Ford 2-door sedan chassis with a serious paint job and motor. The driver has told us about his experience with this car, including its turbocharged engine and six-inch valvetrain.
We'll also have the chance to meet some of the drivers and learn more about their racing styles. One driver mentioned that he loves the smell of gasoline and will often find himself getting into arguments with other drivers about it. Another driver was excited to be racing at Drag Week, saying that it's one of his favorite events.
As we make our way through the day, we'll also have a chance to check out some of the testing that's been done on the cars. We've seen some of the competitors doing last-minute tweaks and adjustments before heading off to the track. One car stood out - a car with a shirt made from its muffler. It was clear that this driver had put in a lot of effort into his car.
Throughout the day, we'll be keeping an eye on all of the cars as they prepare to take part in Drag Week. We'll have our cameras rolling and our reporters on hand to capture all of the action. From the fastest cars to the most grueling drag race in the world, Drag Week 2018 is going to be an event that you won't want to miss.
