The Ferrari 599 HGT Pack: A Handle on Handling
This is a Ferrari 599 with a new Hgte package, and the key letter there is H stands for handling. Ferrari says it's much better, let's find out right. The 599 HGT pack adds about €20,000 plus local taxes to the price of a stand of $599. So, what do you get? Well, inside, not that much really. There's a bit more carbon fiber down on the trim here, and these seats they're terrific and they're carbon backed. There's nothing really you couldn't order off the options list anyway.
There's no more power either, this is still a 620 horsepower V12. The big changes come in the chassis, the front springs rear springs, and the rear anti-roll bar are all stiffer and the ride height has been reduced as well. The tires meanwhile have a softer compound; they're exactly the same design but the compound is slightly softer and the front wheels are half an inch wider, same Tire width just a wider wheel. The idea is it's much, much stiffer firmer and more composed not to the total detriment of ride quality but it's just supposed to be a lot, a lot more focused, a lot more grained into the road. Sometimes with the regular 599 there's a little bit of pitch and dive, and this is supposed to do away with all that on the road.
Ferrari records that around its Fano test circuit at the factory, it's 0.6 of a second quicker than the regular 599. Well, in a minute, we're going to go and find out okay right, this is Fano so is Ferrari's test track next to the factory and I've never been here before um, and I've only got three laps now I have driven a 599 on a track before, and I can tell you this instantly does feel firmer although the brakes don't but I think they've had a bit of a hard time this afternoon with other people at the wheel. Just feels that bit more controlled that bit more agile there's less pitch there's less roll only the same amount of power as before.
But, you know what I never thought this car was short of power, it's a lot more trustworthy really sometimes could be a bit of a scary car when the when the back starts sliding for this now cuz there's less roll, it's a bit more keyed in. You get you seem to you seem to be more aware of what's going on under the wheels, it's very good actually so there we have it, the Ferrari 5998 H GTE.
If you're going to buy a 599 should you tick the box that says hgte pack? You know what I think you probably should.
