The Future of Ford: Building a Monster to Take Down Porsche
Ford is attempting to build something pretty wild and the automaker has its sight set on taking down some serious competition in the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. As more and more info arrives about the forthcoming Mega Mustang, it sounds like the blue oval brand is ready for battle. The 2015 Ford Mustang GTD is the most powerful and fastest Mustang ever produced by Ford.
The Mustang GTD is basically building a GT3 race car with street car conveniences inside it has crazy go fast tech coupled with serious power. In fact, Ford's own team calls this thing a superar but I'll settle on insanely fast sports car for now. The Supercharged 5.2 L V8 engine produces 8115 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque despite its Hefty displacement. This massive engine output allows the Mustang GTD to outpower even some of the most powerful production cars available today.
Despite its enormous power output, the Mustang GTD still makes more horsepower per liter than the aforementioned 911 GT3 RS. To conquer racetracks you can't just have brutish power you also have to handle. Ford fits the Mustang GTD with an inboard rear suspension system featuring semi-active dampers. This advanced setup allows for optimal handling and stability, even at extremely high speeds. The bouncy bits through a rear window are so proud of this setup that they're visible from outside.
The Mustang GTD also comes equipped with a set of carbon ceramic brakes at the corners. These highly advanced braking systems provide exceptional stopping power and durability, allowing the driver to push the car to its limits without worrying about overheating or fading. The rear wing out back essentially has a DRS mode like you'd find on a Formula 1 car that is a drag reduction system which alters the angle of the wing as needed. There's also a set of flaps under the car that adjust to deliver air flow or downforce as required, all of which will be needed to set a ludicrous time around the Nurburgring racing circuit in Germany.
The goal for the Mustang GTD is to achieve a lap time under 7 minutes, a feat only accomplished by some of the most incredibly fast machines like the Lamborghini Aventador SV Ferrari 296 GTB Porsche 918 spider and various versions of the already oft-mentioned 911 GT3 RS. Having a Mustang join this company would be both hilarious and awesome but it sounds like the car is up to the task, as prototypes have been spotted devouring the corners of the ring so it shouldn't be long until we get official word of a proper time around the green hell.
Despite all this amazing engineering, it will still be a hard sell for some folks to see why a $300,000 Mustang is a special thing. However, I'm hopeful that everything learned from the development of the GTD will filter down in some way to the regular Mustangs or at least the top tier performance ones that aren't GT3 RS competitors. The performance advances found in a $300,000 Mustang could make for a better $40 or $50,000 Mustang down the road and hopefully the fortunate folks who are able to buy a GTV put it to good use.
DRS Inboard Suspension and 815 Horsepower Don't Deserve to Waste Away in a Garage

The DRS inboard suspension and 815 horsepower don't deserve to waste away in a garage get them on the track for others to see and enjoy the sights and sounds of the most mental Mustang ever built.
