Mexican Hot Chocolate

Happy Hanukkah: A Cozy Night with Mexican Hot Chocolate and Churros

Happy Hanukkah is your head spinning from all the Hanukkah parties and the donuts, yeah me too. Let's switch things up with a cozy night and we're gonna make some Mexican hot chocolate. Pop these churros into the oven and as soon as they're ready, we're ready for a game of dreidel or 20. Forget about the box mix, we are making Mexican hot chocolate from scratch this one includes some cinnamon and some chili powder but if you want just a regular delicious hot chocolate, skip those and it's amazing.

We're adding all of our dry ingredients to this little pot here and I'm using Geffen cocoa because I find that it is the deepest darkest most rich delicious cocoa I use it in all of my cakes and cookies and obviously when I need a deep dark Rich hot cocoa. Add all your dry ingredients right here into this pot, foreign cups of milk. I'm gonna set our flame to medium and then whisk these together until it's nice and thick. As soon as it comes up to a little boil, you're ready to go, but I really want this to be thick and Luscious because I want to dunk the churros right into it.

So, I'm going to thicken this up and if you like thick Rich hot cocoa like I do, we're going to add some egg yolks and that's really going to thicken up. But I don't want the eggs to scramble, so if you add them right into here, you're going to kind of have like wisps like egg drop soup and nobody wants that, so we're going to temper them which just means warm them up a little bit. I've got a measuring cup here and just adding some of the hot hot cocoa to these yolks mixing them up in here and then adding this into the pot and whisking this until it is nice and thick.

And then you're gonna have the most luscious hot cocoa of your life, this is beautifully thick. We're going to turn off this flame, get our churros dip them in some cinnamon sugar and get ready for our dreidel game, oh yeah, these smells so good by the way, there are so many that come in a box this isn't even the whole package, I just want you know I made a quick cinnamon sugar for dusting these. I'm just going to pop them and roll them around in here and serve up some hot cocoa now.

We have to give this a try, do you see how thick that is, how it just coated it, it's like almost ganache, it's incredible, um, they're amazing separately but absolutely magical together. Enjoy your night in happy Hanukkah, ready okay, we want to switch things no we want no that doesn't make sense okay one more time am I looking at you, I'm always looking here, it's an all the like parties I'm gonna read my notes again was that fine you're gonna do it again do you want me to talk to you this way, I'm here, it's heavy it is heavy not at the gym right, you're on.
