of course there is this new camera button as well with the pixel 9 Pro XL there aren't a lot of Hardware changes this time except for the newer selfie camera and the brighter Ultra wide angle lens but we know Google always pulls through with its strong computational photography games so I am really interested in knowing which phone actually wins this battle as always I have segmented this video into a whole lot of different categories and I will be giving points to each one as we go so let's get to it okay I have clicked over 500 photos from these two phones and when it comes to the main primary lens in normal scenarios both phones are just fantastic I mean they are flagship phones and they really really do prove their worth especially when shooting objects these phones do a pretty similar job but it is when things get difficult like this photo I took at dawn you can see how the pixel just outshines the iPhone with the color payoff and the clarity and I have to tell you that wasn't the only case in many other scenarios the iPhone is just not able to maintain that kind of dynamic range just check out this bodus stupi image the dynamic range and highlights are much much better on on the pixel now I will give credit to the iPhone 16 Pro Max for having better details in almost all of the photos be it while shooting indoors or outdoors I guess we have the default 24 megapix mode to thank for that and sometimes the contrast it produces looks especially pleasing too but the pixel 9 Pro XL just optimizes the pictures better like here in this shot of my dog Jenny the clarity of her fur details is just so much better on Pixel and while the iPhone has a warm tone generally the pixel optimizes the color tone according to situations which is just a nice work to have so it's safe to say that casually both phones bring out great photos but uh when things get a little difficult it's the Google pixel that is more versatile and if you're someone who likes clicking pictures during the night you will be impressed by how well the pixel9 pro XL handles exposure and sharpness its pictures are just effortlessly bright thanks to the larger f1.7 aperture I especially think the way it's able to manage the contrast of the sky as well as the details of the cloud while balancing everything else in pictures is just fantastic of the only thing that pixel could do a little better is in terms of glare management I mean it's not as bad as the s24 ultra but the iPhone is just able to handle glares so much better and because the normal pictures are bright and Lovely by themselves there's just no need to turn on night mode on the pixel9 pro XL at all now now there are instances such as these where there is little to no light and that's when night mode processing comes handy but normally I wouldn't suggest you turn on night mode it just looks too much iPhone's photos in night mode turn out better balanced in my opinion but in regular nighttime photos in general pixel just takes the cake away anyway both of these phones have 5x Periscope zoom lenses for those crisp Zoom shots and here pixel's higher resolution camera is able to number one manage better details number number two the colors are maintained better and number three like always the pixel shines through with good dynamic range I mean this is turning out to be a oneway comparison even the 5x photos that I shot at night are clearer with better sharpness from Pixel what is happening has Apple slipped well not exactly I actually prefer the portraits from the iPhone 16 Pro Max over the pixel 9 Pro XL first of all even though pixel has the hardware to support 5x portraits the comp has chosen not to include that option in the portrait mode yes you can add blur later from the settings but that turns out to be the most unnatural thing ever the blur isn't consistent The Edge detection is bizarre and don't even get me started on the brightened skin tone on the other hand the iPhone 16 Pro Max clicks great 5x portraits with consistent background blur warmer but close to natural skin tone and crisp details I also clicked a ton of 2x portraits from these two phones and I still prefer iPhones processing over pixels I kid you not the pixel actually makes me look fairer and Lovelier than I actually am and I am kind of not happy about that I know most people might prefer that sort of processing but I like my skin tone being represented as it is in terms of selfies though I am a little on the fence pixel's 42 megapix camera has a wider field of view and processes Shadows to make the images look super pleasing but at the same time I don't dislike iPhone's output either in many instances I have gotten nice skin tone natural details and good highlight management from it so I think I'll just share a point between the two by the way feel free to comment on which phone's pictures you are liking better I would love to know your thoughts now moving on with the new 48 megapix Ultra wide angle camera I was guessing that the iPhone 16 Pro Max would top the pixel 9 Pro XL effortlessly but that was not the case the pixel 9 Pro XL is wider and the images are generally sharper and clear cleaner too cleaner in the sense it has less noise I am guessing it's because of the wider aperture that it's able to take in more light and hence make the images noise-free and also the optimization is really good the iPhone's Ultra wideangle images also look nice but the thing is sometimes they appear a bit dark and contrasty while pixel Just Nails the dynamic range I did shoot a few indoor Ultra wide angle shots and found the iPhone 16 Pro Max having slightly better details but 7 to 80% of the Time pixel just does a better job and it's the same during nighttime as well the images are brighter and sharper from Pixel again turning on night mode pixel just makes the images too bright to handle while the iPhone does a pretty convincing job not to less not too much both phones can also shoot macro shots from their Ultra wide angle lenses and here it's the iPhone that lets you go closer while the pixel 9 Pro XL does not allow that I like the details in the phone better but the colors are more defined from Pixel Li Pro XL so I think we can once again share a point between the two okay finally let's talk about the videos but before I do that I also want to talk a little about the infamous AI artificial intelligence for the rest of the world and apple intelligence for apple and without a single hint of doubt it's Google that takes the point here because first of all it's AI features are actually available for usage unlike Apple that will roll out the AI features a few months later anyway Google has mastered tiny features like object erasing and all quite well and you can even manage the placement of things in a picture which is quite handy and if you're someone like me who does not have friends you can create clones of yourself like this with the add me feature as well the video boost feature on Pixel phones is something else too what it does is it takes your normal videos enhances the light details and colors and gives you an upscaled nicer video I know all of this sounds great but I have to warn you video boost takes a lot many hours to process so you have to keep that in mind as well all right now it's time to talk about the videos and I am going to save you the time and energy to watch the rest of this video because the iPhone 16 Pro Max shoots much better videos than the pixel9 pro XL or any other phones for that matter check out this main camera video from both the phones if you look closely you can see how the details and sharpness is better on the iPhone not just that the videos are smoother and have better stabilization from the iPhone 16 Pro Max 2 I know the pixel 9 Pro XL also has 8K video recording which the iPhone lacks but all the 4K videos that I have shot in my test have better details dynamic range exposure handling from the iPhone so it's just so much better this Ultra wideangle video that I shot on the road is another example of how things like dynamic range Clarity noise reduction and everything is just better on the iPhone 16 Pro Max likewise it can also shoot slowmo vide in 4k 120 FPS from the iPhone 16 Pro Max which is not there on Pixel and the regular 1080p slow MOS are also so much better on iPhone versus the grainy output that you get from the pixel9 pro XL even the Cinematic video or portrait blur video is much better on the iPhone you can shoot in higher 4K resolution versus 1080p on Pixel and the quality is just so much better on iPhone not to forget I can also shoot prores video from the 16 Pro Max with which which I can edit and post and bring live to the already good videos now even from the selfie camera you can see how iPhone's output is much smoother and jitter-free in comparison to the pixel 9 Pro XL I will admit that pixel has a wider field of view but if you look at the details the contrast dynamic range and everything you can see iPhone has just done a better job okay everyone now looking at the final scoreboard it's clear that these devices excel in different areas here the pixel excels in photography while iPhone practically destroys pixel in the videography aspect but since the pixel 9 Pro XL has already received a couple
