The Tick Watch Pro 4G LTE: A Revolutionary Smartwatch with Cellular Connectivity

Not getting 30 days out of it, but the ability to not walk around with a dead SmartWatch is definitely a positive thing. However, the added convenience of a 4G LTE connection may come with its drawbacks. As I haven't been able to test it yet due to my boy's issues setting up connectivity, I can only speculate on the benefits and potential limitations of this feature.

With the release of the Tick Watch Pro 4G LTE, users will be able to connect to 4G LTE networks, allowing for phone calls, music streaming, and notification delivery straight from the watch. This means that users can leave their phones at home and go for a run or engage in other activities without needing to constantly check their devices. The Tick Watch Pro runs on LS by Google, which provides access to notifications, talk to Google Assistant, and a user-friendly interface.

However, performance fluctuations and stutters may occur, particularly when downloading apps or setting up the watch for the first time. The processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100, is aging, but the addition of a gigabyte of RAM has improved performance compared to last year's model. Performance-wise, it feels smoother now, although there are still instances where the watch struggles with certain tasks.

The user interface features two buttons: the top one can be used to turn on the display and access the app drawer, while the bottom button is customizable. My boy has set it up to turn on essential mode, but users can also customize it to suit their preferences. The top button can be pressed and held to access Google Assistant, although performance may not always be the fastest.

One of the most confusing aspects of fitness tracking with the Tick Watch Pro is the dual-tracking system, which utilizes both Google Fit and Mob Boy's suite of apps. Both services capture similar data, but there are benefits to using each app separately. For example, Tick Pulse captures heart rate data faster than Google Fit, and Tick Exercise presents workout data in a more visually appealing way.

When put to the test alongside the Apple Watch Series 4, the Tick Watch Pro showed impressive accuracy in step tracking, with a difference of only 100-200 steps between the two. However, it did overcompensate for distance traveled by around 0.10 miles over the course of a 2-mile run. The heart rate data was also very similar across both watches.

Additional features of the Tick Watch Pro include onboard GPS, which provides an accurate map of your run in Tick Exercise, and NFC capabilities that enable contactless payments through Google Pay. With four gigs of internal storage, users can store offline music playback content. Finally, the watch boasts IP68 water resistance, making it suitable for swimming activities.

The Tick Watch Pro 4G LTE is currently available from Amazon and Mob Boy's website at a promotional price of $279.99, which will increase to $299 after August 10th, when LTE service becomes available through Horizon. It's essential to consider the cost of cellular connectivity on a smartwatch, which can range from $10 to $20 per month, before deciding whether this feature is right for you.

Overall, the Tick Watch Pro 4G LTE offers a unique combination of features that set it apart from other smartwatches. While there may be some limitations and performance issues to address, the added convenience of cellular connectivity makes it an attractive option for those who want to stay connected on-the-go without needing to carry their phone.
