Changing the Default Music Service for Your Google Home Device

In today's video, I'm going to quickly show you how you can change the default music service for your Google home. With the Google home, there are many different ways in which you can listen to music, and today I'm going to focus on changing the default service that it will play from and linking other accounts so that you can listen to music, maybe a music service that you are paying for.

To get started, we need to head into the Google home app. I need to get my phone here again real quick, let's see. Alright now, go into the Google home application. This will work on Android or iPhone devices and then once we are in the app, we need to select the menu in the top left. Then, we just need to make sure that our account is right. Right here you can see the email account and if that is wrong, you can click the arrow and choose the proper account. But we just need to select music right here, and when we select music, we will have the option to change the default service.

So, right now this little blue dot over here on the right side is showing that it's linked to Pandora. But up here if I want to select to Google Play Music, it will play from Google Play Music. So now I just need to ask it to play some music and that is where it is going to play from. Let's play the latest hits. Alright, here's the album "The Latest Hits" on Google Play Music. So there it went to Google Play Music. Then, if I change it down here to Pandora, let's play James Taylor favorites. Okay, asking Pandora to play some music and there it's going to play from Pandora.

Depending on which country you live in will determine what music services are available. In the US, we have Google Play Music, YouTube Music, Pandora, and Pandora One. There is no default provider. Or you can also choose Deezer. And on the phone with Google assistant, you can ask it to play from other services. But with the Google home, these are the services that you can play from, and this will work with Google home devices.

If we want to link an account down here like under Deezer, I would just select the link and then I would need to link my account and sign in. And then any of the playlists that I have on that account would play through here. If you want to play music from a different service than the default, all you would need to do is ask Google home to play the specific music from a certain service. Let's say, "Play Postal Service from Google Play Music". Alright, here's the Postal Service on Google Play Music.

Even though it is now set to Pandora, it is going to play that from Google Play Music and if I have a subscription there or if I have already added certain songs to my library, it's going to default to play to those.
