The Sony Xperia Tablet S: A Revolutionary New Device
Hey guys, it's David with The Verge, and we're here to take a closer look at the Sony Xperia Tablet S, which was recently announced in Berlin. We had the chance to check out the device in New York City as well, and we're excited to share our first impressions.
As you can see from our video, the Xperia Tablet S looks sleek and stylish, much like some of Sony's previous tablets. It's super light and really thin, making it easy to carry around. The device also features a 9.4-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. This is definitely a great option for those looking for a large screen without breaking the bank.
One of the coolest accessories that comes with the Xperia Tablet S is the keyboard case, which retails for $99. The case is designed to prop up the tablet and provide a comfortable typing experience. When you slide the tablet into the case, the capacitive keys automatically activate, making it easy to type without having to adjust anything. While we did notice a slight lag in our typing experience, the accuracy was surprisingly good, especially considering the price point.
Another exciting feature of the Xperia Tablet S is its universal remote control. The device already came with a basic universal remote, but Sony has taken it to the next level by allowing users to add multiple devices and create custom macros. This means you can use the tablet to control not just your TV and Blu-ray player, but also other devices in your home, such as lights or thermostats. The remote control works through an IR blaster on the device, making it a convenient option for those looking to streamline their entertainment experience.
The Xperia Tablet S also comes with a visually stunning TV guide that shows you all the things happening on TV at any given time. Based on what you've watched and your social networks, the guide will recommend TV shows that are likely to interest you. It's a great way to discover new shows and connect with others who share similar interests. And if you're looking for a more personalized experience, the guide will also make TV shows appear bigger or smaller based on your preferences.
One of the most practical features of the Xperia Tablet S is its guest mode. This allows users to switch between different accounts, giving each account its own set of permissions and settings. It's a great way to keep children safe online by limiting their access to certain apps and websites. The guest mode is easy to use, with just a simple passcode needed to log in and out.
The Xperia Tablet S also comes with a range of software features that are designed to work seamlessly with Sony's other devices. For example, the device includes the Play Memories app, which allows users to store and share their favorite memories from their phone or camera. There's also Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited, which provide access to a vast library of music and movies.
Overall, the Sony Xperia Tablet S is an impressive new device that's sure to appeal to anyone looking for a high-end tablet experience. With its sleek design, large display, and range of innovative features, it's definitely worth checking out before it hits stores next week.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys it's David with the Verge and we're here looking at the Sony xeria Tablet S uh was brand new it was just announced in Berlin but we got a chance to check it out in New York City as well uh so as you can see it looks a little bit like some of the Sony Tablets before uh it's super light and really thin uh it looks really nice it runs a Tegra 3 processor it has Android 4.0 and it has some waterproof covering and a 9.4 in 1280 x 800 display so there are a bunch of new accessories that come with the tablet but one of the coolest ones is the keyboard case it's a $99 case and the tablet slides in and then actually props up it reminds us a bit of the Microsoft Surface and so it has these capacitive Keys here which uh automatically are enact or enabled when you put it in uh and they're actually surprisingly good for typing it's a little laggy that we've seen but it's pretty accurate and it's a big keyboard and it's a cool thing to have that doesn't add any weight to a case and then whenever you're done you can just close it and then it just carries around like any other folio case you might have but what's really interesting is some of the software that Sony has put in so let's take a look at some of that one of the biggest changes they've made is to the universal remote control uh there was already a universal remote on here but now you can actually add uh as many devices as you want and you can add macros so you can do things like turn on your TV and your Blu-ray player and tune to a certain Channel all at once uh it makes it a much more capable remote control and it all works through an IR blaster on the device and it's a pretty neat thing to have on a device that's likely to be in your home anyway there's also a really visual TV TV Guide that shows you all the things that are on TV at any given time and based on what you've watched and it'll connect to your social networks it'll actually make a TV show bigger or smaller based on what you want to watch so like apparently I really want to watch First Take and I'm less interested in day planning uh it's a just a cool way to watch TV and is a way better way to navigate all your junk uh there's also a new guest mode on the tablet which is pretty cool it's an easy way to switch between different users which gives you different permissions for certain apps uh and disabled settings or won't let you into the browser and it's a great way if you have kids especially to say here you can play games but we don't want you looking at the internet or accidentally buying things on the Play Store uh it's a really clever easy feature to get in and out of and you just need a passcode to get out uh and then just like that you're right back to where you were uh there's also a lot of Sony's other software from its Xperia phones this is the first xeria tablet so they've branded it with uh the same looking feel and a lot of the same apps you get the play memories and there's the Music Unlimited and the Video Unlimited so it's definitely designed to be used in conjunction with an Xperia phone um so that's pretty much it this is the Sony xeria Tablet S it's going to be available next week but it's up for pre-order now it starts at $399 and depending on how much storage you want can cost up to $5.99hey guys it's David with the Verge and we're here
