The Hurricane Evo Build: Progress and Challenges
These wheels are actually the easiest ones here right now, I'm glad we're making progress on this car. However, these wheel wells are proving to be a bit more difficult than expected. They don't quite fit as planned, so we need to make some adjustments. To fix this issue, I've resorted to using a zip tie to hold everything together in the meantime.
I have to admit, I'm not a fan of the idea of just "gluing it on" and hoping for the best. There's always a catch when things seem too easy or straightforward. As the project progresses, we're realizing that this car is going to require more effort and attention than we initially thought.
The body kit that was supposed to be installed next has been delayed due to an issue with the door rubs. It seems that the design doesn't quite fit as planned, and it's causing some problems. The seller of the car allegedly promised to come out and take a look at the problem and make any necessary repairs.
Despite these challenges, I'm excited to see how the car is coming along. We've already made some significant progress, and I can tell that we're getting close to making this thing race-ready. With 600-650 horsepower, this car has the potential to be quite fast.
However, we still have a long way to go before we can consider it truly finished. The body and paint job are still in the works, and once those are complete, we'll need to put everything back together again. We're also waiting on some parts to arrive, which will help us to finalize the build.
I've been thinking about how I want to wrap this car up for the Hurricane Evo build. I was originally considering painting it in the factory color, but that seems like a waste of time now. Instead, we're going to wrap the entire thing and then let Rob Dom's owner paint it whenever he wants. This will give him full control over the final look of the car.
Speaking of which, I've been thinking about how to promote this build on social media. We're going to be using 99 designs to create some sketchy ideas for the livery. Siobhan is also interested in painting the car a factory color, but I'm not sure that's the best idea.
The real question is, why is it taking so long to complete this project? The answer lies in the cost of the parts and labor involved. It's simply not worth throwing good money after bad, which is why we're being so careful with our budget on this build. We're also trying to keep an eye on expenses and make sure that we don't over-spend.
Despite the challenges, I'm committed to seeing this project through to completion. I want to get it finished and put out there for everyone to see. And when we do finally finish it up, I think it's going to be something special.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enall right here jay's garage and we have an update and one of the longest time longest running projects i've got right now is the hurricane evo and it's one of those things that people still want to see it get done and it sort of is so we finally got this thing we got this body kit here and you remember i did the video on it it's two phases here one we got to get the body kit on car painted and then i got to get the engine and trans from tommy f yeah it's already built i just have to get the head out without being built up once the head is built and done we can get this thing back together i was in touch with sarah and tune she's gonna be heading out here with her boyfriend and he's a fabricator she's gonna turn the wrenches and we'll get this thing up and running so that's gonna be shortly after the uh the pandemic slows down a little bit but this is going to be done uh probably in the next week or so now obviously there's something about like siobhan bought this body kit here for five grand and that was like the hookup uh the youtube hook up down from i don't know 15 grand whatever the guy said it was and it's just leaving a little bit to be desired here and i don't want to say it's a waste of five thousand dollars i told siobhan like why are you going to spend so much money on on this car because this car i mean between the 10 i'm into it for the engine build the engine work and everything like that it's this this is going to be a 45 000 car even with the labor and everything uh taken care of this is gonna be a pretty expensive car now they screwed this up uh let's see so is it it goes this way right this is the way this is supposed to work and this side skirt is supposed to go on like this right so it goes under the door it fits in there and that vent is supposed to be on this side well that's all well and good except the other side they cut wrong so the cut here is the opposite of the one over there to fit in to that body panel so we were going to switch sides on it siobhan doesn't want to do that he wants to keep it the way it's ugly ugly and supposed to be intended i don't know i'm just like even this everything here if this is how the front bumper matches up that's way too close to the front tire i would say i think that would even rub so what do you do there this carbon thing i mean look objectively it's going to look pretty cool right this big carnard on the side you got the carbon fiber pieces you got the carbon fiber under tray here but then you look and you're like oh that's really cool carbon fiber under tray can connect here but when you look i mean how do i get up here let's see if i can do this without knocking i feel like if i grab onto something it's going to fall off let me grab on to the all right if you look down the bottom there there's nothing and this is the undertray under here there's nothing to connect the under tray to the car see let's see let me give you a tight zoom i just don't want to ruin this guy's work but you see the carbon fiber and then the fiberglass just comes straight down there's no like lip on the fiberglass so this would be a lip you can secure this to the thing going across the entire front here this comes straight down and this is finished here it's only it's only like a millimeter two millimeters thick you can't secure it so we have to figure out how to secure this entire leading edge of this entire under tray to this bumper when the only thing you have to secure it to is i mean equivalent of that like this right here like you can't secure anything to that it's just it's not enough of a it's not enough of a contact point so yes you can get it here down but you can't do anything across the whole front end so if if air gets in there and like usually you'd see cars that have like a pipe coming from here to here but you can't do that on this car there's not enough room so that is a big problem um these things are just ugly and they don't really line up where is it there's one on the other side like and i'm sure this isn't like where does it go like it just to get this to line up i don't know like totally a work in progress so let's just say it catches the wheel arch there but then it misses the whole boat up here i mean this is the kit that came together that i don't want to question siobhan's use of money but i question siobhan's use of money in this case now at least it's looking more like a vehicle i mean i would even say leave those off you could sort of get away with it like that without these stupid vents that don't line up i mean you don't want to make it look i mean i guess it's his car he can make it look however he wants but you do want to be aware of what it's looking like now this again i feel like it's pretty close whether this has to be i mean it sucks to shave stuff like that but uh if the tires if the profile of the tire is a little bit bigger you may have contact issues up there and that's never any good but at least we're making progress um these wheel are these are the the easiest ones here right here they glue on the back here to make it look like a fender flare but progress is being made unfortunately it's more difficult it's always more difficult it's never like yeah just glue it on but you know that's uh the problem with me is i say just glue it on hey this doesn't fit all right to hit it with a zip tie like i'm that guy that just says like make it work and go for the path of least resistance and this car has been pretty resistant up into this point so what i recommend this body kit i as of right now no um the guy who sold it to him uh allegedly is gonna come out and check it out and see if he can make it right and if he can then whatever we'll see what happens if he can't then i would probably recommend not going too crazy with the body kit but i do understand the desire to have these things look pretty cool i don't understand why this comes over and up right like wouldn't that have been just cool if it was just uh yes oh so this is what fills that in so this see level level and then it kicks up so this is going to look like the finish so that's going to be down here but i don't know to me sort of a waste uh we do have that other bumper that i got i bought this bumper on i want to say oh and that's what they said they're like oh the door rubs the fender and i'm like cool just shave it down a little bit just cut a little piece off i forgot about these my corvette tires i can rip some nasty burnouts in these things but here's the rest of the car still here um yeah i'm excited i like honestly when we start getting this thing cranking uh i do i think this will be race ready before rob dom's four rotor i it's debatable but i think with actual effort this thing is about i want to say summer but uh we're in june july i'm going to say i'm going to say this thing is going to be fairly well sorted by september i say we'll get it running by august and by end of september just say october 1 is my date that this thing will be absolutely done and that's like understanding that we're not going crazy on this car uh we're gonna have i mean it's to be 600 650 wheel horsepower but once the body and paint is done the rest is all pretty simple um just putting everything back together and maybe waiting on parts so there is your hurricane evo update wait till you see the livery i've got these ideas in my head when you go to 99 designs have them sketch it out and we're going to wrap this car awesome siobhan wants to paint it like the factory color i think that's sort of a waste so i think we may just not paint it at all wrap the thing make it look badass and then he can paint it whatever he wants when he wants it but let's get this thing to a point where it's recognizable where it's cool where it drives where it's fun and where the wheel well i mean that's too much real estate back here not enough real estate up here let's get the the bigger problem sorted first that's a bigger problem all right rob peretti thanks for watching thank you for hanging in there forever on this hurricane evo build um why is it taking so long
