**The 2018 iPad Pro: A Still-Competitive Option Despite Being Five Years Old**
For those looking to upgrade their mobile computing experience, the 2018 iPad Pro may seem like an outdated option. However, with its robust features and performance, it's still a viable choice for many users. In this article, we'll explore the key benefits of using a 2018 iPad Pro as your next device.
**Reasonable Price and Performance**
One of the main advantages of choosing a 2018 iPad Pro is its reasonable price point. Currently available for around $399 to $499, depending on the condition and any additional accessories, this device offers an unbeatable value for money. Compared to newer models like the 2022 M2 iPad Pro, which starts at $899, the 2018 model offers a significant discount without sacrificing too much performance.
**Thunderbolt and USBC Connectivity**
The 2018 iPad Pro was one of the first iPads to feature USB-C, also known as Thunderbolt, built-in. This means that users can take advantage of fast data transfer speeds, up to 10 Gbps, using a USB-C port or an adapter. While newer models have upgraded to Thunderbolt 3 with faster speeds, up to 40 Gbps, the 2018 iPad Pro still offers reliable and convenient connectivity.
**Magic Keyboard Compatibility**
Another notable feature of the 2018 iPad Pro is its compatibility with the Magic Keyboard. Despite being a five-year-old device, it still supports the newer keyboard's features, including trackpad support. This makes it an excellent option for users who want to use a physical keyboard with their iPad. Additionally, the 2018 iPad Pro can be paired with other third-party keyboards that use the same three-pin connector.
**Camera Capabilities and Stage Manager**
The 2018 iPad Pro also boasts a high-quality camera system, which is still capable of taking excellent photos and videos. This makes it an ideal device for content creators and those who enjoy capturing life's moments. Furthermore, Apple has introduced the feature of Stage Manager to this older model, allowing users to multitask with multiple apps open at once.
**Support and Value**
One of the most significant advantages of choosing a 2018 iPad Pro is its ongoing support. While newer models may have received iOS and iPadOS updates more recently, the 2018 iPad Pro will still receive updates for several years to come. This means that users can continue to enjoy new features and security patches without having to upgrade their device immediately. With this level of support, the value proposition of a 2018 iPad Pro becomes even more compelling.
**Conclusion**
In conclusion, the 2018 iPad Pro is still a solid choice for those looking for a reliable and feature-rich mobile computing experience. Its reasonable price point, Thunderbolt connectivity, Magic Keyboard compatibility, and ongoing support make it an attractive option. While newer models may offer improved performance and features, the 2018 iPad Pro offers an unbeatable value for money. If you're in the market for a new iPad or considering upgrading from an older model, this device is definitely worth considering.
**Additional Tips**
If you're thinking of purchasing a 2018 iPad Pro, here are some additional tips to keep in mind:
* Make sure to check the device's condition and any refurbished status before making a purchase.
* Consider purchasing an unlocked or Wi-Fi-only model to save money and avoid carrier restrictions.
* Be aware that Apple has discontinued support for certain features, such as USB-A ports and 3.5mm headphone jacks.
By following these tips and considering the benefits outlined above, you can find a great deal on a 2018 iPad Pro that meets your needs and budget.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso everyone if you watch my video from earlier this week about some idevices losing iOS and iPad OS 17 support then you might have noticed my information blunder like this 2018 iPad Pro will be losing support with iOS and iPad OS 17. so of course I was incorrect in that video to say that this 2018 iPad Pro was going to lose iPad OS 17 support and I should have been referring to the 12.9 a 2015 iPad Pro the original one that did come out and we did put some corrections in the description and I pinned a comment as well to make sure that people were aware that this 2018 iPad Pro isn't going anywhere and to make up for that fact what I wanted to do was actually make a video kind of talking about this 2018 iPad Pro and how it still works in 2023 because this iPad has been around since the very Beginnings so October 2018 is when we got this particular iPad this is the 11 inch Baseline model with no data and I want to show you guys how it's lasted over the test of time how it's been doing but we use it for overall and if you can find a 2018 iPad Pro that it might still be worth it even five years later but without further Ado let's get into this so the 2018 iPad Pro is what started pretty much my love for all of these iPads when I first got the 12.9 inch 2018 iPad Pro I saw this machine and then I was using it for a while and just realized how powerful it was and how how quickly it was rendering files how quickly I was able to get from application to application and keep in mind this is still iOS 12 and iPad OS 13 when I was really using this iPad for the first time and I was just blown away by just how powerful it was and yes there were some software limitations and some software workarounds back then but overall I just enjoyed first of all the design and the hardware of the device and just the usability overall so let's briefly talk about the design because there's a reason Apple has kept this pretty much identical design language through these five years of this iPad Pro being out the only difference you would notice between a 2018 iPad Pro and then the brand new M2 iPad Pro is twofold right the first one is the camera module of course as you can see right here the 2018 iPad Pros were equipped with a 12 megapixel shooter on the rear but just one single one with the microphone and the Flash versus now with the 21 21 and the 2022 and even the 2020 you have dual cameras you have a wide and an ultra wide you have that lidar scanner The Flash and of course the microphone as well so the camera module is a little bit different on the rear and the only other physical difference that you will notice is that the older iPad pros and this was only done recently with the newest iPad Pros is that the older iPad Pros just said iPad on the back of it down here on the bottom portion of the iPad versus now with the newer iPads Apple I guess the iPads are so similar that they need to physically distinguish which one is which so the new iPads now say iPad Pro as opposed to just iPad but even five years later this design still stands true right you got that industrial design it stands on its own it's so so thin for what it was especially back then the feel in the hand is perfect the actual bezel is there because it's a lip for your thumbs to hold on to so the bezel is thin enough so it still feels screen to screen or edge to edge but it's thick enough so you don't feel uncomfortable holding it for long periods of time and this 11 inch in particular is very easy to wield especially if you're coming from a 12.9 inch because this thing just feels like I can kind of throw it around throw it on the couch lay down and view content while holding it over my head versus with the 12.9 it's still a little too heavy to get all that done and then let's talk about quickly what's internally in this actual iPad so you are rocking the a12x chip in here I think it's a12x bionic in here and you are still using four gigs of RAM total and with this variation I actually only have 64 gig because I want the Baseline model in 2018 and the only option was 64 gigs at that cheapest price point of 7.99 but even though it's only four gigs of RAM and it is a chip that's about five years old now at this point it can handle everything that you throw at it which we'll touch on in a little bit but I did want to bring up a couple more Hardware pieces that have really lasted the test of time and Apple has kept around even five years later to their fully loaded M2 iPad Pro and that has to be the pro motion display the pro motion display on this thing has been absolutely wonderful it's 120 hertz with a 240 hertz sample refresh rate so whenever you touch it it feels even faster it's extremely fluid it's crispy the actual ppi is about 364 I believe but I'll double check that for you guys will leave a comment down below so it's very crispy it's very fluid it never hiccups on me even five years later the 120hz display is amazing and even to this day I would recommend getting this 11 inch iPad Pro over let's say an iPad Air because the iPad Air does not have that promotion and give me a five-year-old chipset versus a brand new one but with a 60hz display it still feels slow it's still going to feel slow especially if you're used to that 120hz display like I have a 13 and a 14 pro Max iPhone with their version of promotion and 120hz display versus this iPhone Mini that I have behind me is only 60 hertz and you can really tell the difference in the feel and the usability it's hard to portray on camera but it just feels a little snappier overall when you're using the 120 hertz Pro motion display and it also gives you up to 600 nits of peak brightness which is plenty bright especially for indoor use and even outdoor use to a certain extent so overall it is a great screen the 120 hertz it's actually 264 PPI after we did a quick look which is still very crispy and it's still a retina display image and then also that Peak brightness gives you a perfect screen on a small and portable device and then also the speakers themselves these quad speakers five years later are still amazing probably the most powerful speakers in this form factor that you will ever find it would replace some smaller maybe 50 Bluetooth speakers that I would find if you just want to play music loudly in the living room put this on a desk or put this on a little coffee table you'll be able to hear that music probably not super loud but you'll be able to hear that music all over your living room and then quickly I just want to talk about usability because the usability is the name of the game when you're talking about longevity and kind of quality of life when it comes to these older products so the 2018 iPad Pro it's still amazing like I said it's still crispy it still opens up every application extremely quickly I don't use it to the extent that I use my M1 iPad Pro behind me like my M1 iPad Pro I use it for video editing for photo editing it's pretty much my YouTube machine this one is a little bit less in terms of what I use it for you know it's used for iMessage it's used for looking up recipes in the kitchen it's used as a baby monitor at the my nightstand to be able to watch our baby through the Nan a video camera and things like that so it's more kind of day-to-day tasks so emails smaller and less intensive tasks overall but if you do want to throw up lumafusion or you do want to throw up Affinity photo and edit a video in 4k I was doing that on my 2018 iPad Pro with zero issues and I can still do it on this one so maybe if you're an upcoming content creator and you want to do some vertical content creation this could be the way to go if you find it at a reasonable price and then in terms of IO another thing that set this apart from the older iPad Generations that it was the first iPad to bring USBC built right into here and again this is USBC in that Thunderbolt so with the 2021 iPad Pros Apple went Thunderbolt but USBC and it's a Gen 2 Port so USBC 3.1 Gen 2 means you still get up to 10 gigs of transfer speed so if you want to use a hard drive or maybe import some sd card files with an SD card adapter by all means this is going to be more than enough versus the 2021 iPad Pro has up to 40 gigs of transfer speed with that Thunderbolt 3 support and then the last thing I do want to mention is that even though this is a five-year-old device you can still use it with a magic keyboard like it still has as the original three pin connectors on the bottom so you can use it with that slimfolio keyboard you can use it with logitech's Folio keyboard you can use it with a magic keyboard I wish I had the 11 inch magic keyboard I just I only have it for the 12.9 it is more of a compact situation and I probably personally would not spend 300 on a magic keyboard for this but if you are somebody that wants a magic keyboard in that 11 inch form factor this 2018 iPad Pro fully supports that trackpad and magic keyboard support and like I said you could still use it with the old Folio keyboard which we also have right now and then obviously it works with any other three pin connector ready accessory like I mentioned the Logitech combo touch which is a cheaper alternative to that magic keyboard so so unless you're really that one percent of users of the iPad Pro world where you need the utmost power and you need that M2 or that M1 chip or maybe the ability to have up to 16 gigs of RAM if you're using this iPad Pro next to the 2022 M2 iPad Pro and you're just using day-to-day tasks and even some more intensive tasks like editing and lumafusion you probably will not notice a difference until you actually turn the iPad around and see that it has a different camera mod module and that's saying something for these iPads and I think that's why these iPads have held their value for such a long time because right now these 2018 iPad Pros are still about 399 to 499 dollars depending on how well they were kept how refurbished they are you know how used they've been but you can pick one up for about 400 which means that it's only lost about half its value in five years which is absolutely insane so if you guys can still find a 2018 iPad Pro or maybe you're thinking about selling it you probably should hold off a little bit longer because I kind of think we'll get up to maybe iPad OS 19 support on this one so maybe two up to three more years of support with actual iOS updates and iPad OS updates and if you can find one and you're really not going to use that M2 power you're not going to use that M1 power and you don't need things like extended monitor support then this is still an option because Apple did bring down stage manager to this 2018 iPad Pro so you get the feature that some other iPads aren't getting at all with a five-year-old device so if you want to try stage manager at a cheap price point this could be the way to go as well but that's gonna do it for this video everybody I still recommend the 2018 iPad Pro to this day it's a tried and true product works exactly how you want it to it still Compares perfectly to a five-year newer iPad Pro that's on the market today and if you can find one for four maybe even 500 definitely jump on it if you're looking to get into the iPad Pro world and if you have one right now hold on to it a little bit longer because you can still make use of it overall but again apologies for that blunder in the earlier video this 2018 iPad Pro will still be supported with iOS and iPad OS 17 but that's gonna do for this video Everybody if you made it to the end leave a little dolphin in the comments down below so I know you made it to the end and leave some comments down below do you guys still own a 2018 iPad Pro how do you use it I'm very curious to know but that's gonna do it if you guys want to watch more Mac OS iOS or iPad OS content click on one of these videos right here until next time I'm Fernando I'm out of here everybody peaceso everyone if you watch my video from earlier this week about some idevices losing iOS and iPad OS 17 support then you might have noticed my
