**The FlyPro X Eagle: A Hands-Free Drone Experience**
The FlyPro X Eagle is designed to capture aerial video of you hands-free without having to rely on a second person to operate the drone. This innovative device has an attractive angular design and a low-profile charcoal color, reminiscent of a stealth fighter jet. The quad rotor design contains a gimbal action camera that can record up to 4K at 24 frames per second or 1080p at 60 frames per second, capturing pictures at 12 megapixels.
**Smartwatch Control**
The X Eagle's Smartwatch is the primary interface for controlling everything the drone does from takeoff to landing. The watch displays your altitude, radius from you, battery level, and remaining flight time when you reach 25% power. A simple press of a button on your Smartwatch will allow the drone to follow you, orbit around you, or track your movement. The watch vibrates letting you know it's time to land.
**Hands-Free Experience**
The X Eagle's camera is designed to follow your Smartwatch, allowing you to put your full focus into what you're doing hands-free and not rely on a second person to control the drone for you. Getting started with the X Eagle is simple: find an area free of obstacles like trees or buildings, place the drone facing you, turn on the Smartwatch, and then the X Eagle while it's acquiring GPS.
**Attachment and Launch**
Attach the propellers to the drone, take a step back about 15 feet, hold the takeoff button on your Smartwatch for 3 seconds, and the X Eagle will launch on its own. Control the altitude using the scroll wheel on the side of the smart watch and adjust the position of the drone around you by turning the dial on the watch face. Snap a picture by pressing the camera button and hold it in for 3 seconds to start recording video.
**Flight Experience**
The X Eagle had no problems following me around and orbiting my position, but there were times I fell out of the camera's field of view. The gimbal camera would keep track of me most of the time, but sometimes the drone was angled too much to keep me in frame. This is a prototype, so I expect this will improve with future firmware updates.
**Limitations and Precautions**
The X Eagle Sport doesn't have collision avoidance, which means if you want the drone to fly in front of you and you turn around an obstacle, the drone could strike that obstacle trying to keep in front of you. You need to be mindful of the drone while it's airborne if you're around obstacles, as you have little control over where the drone is going to land. A clever workaround I found was holding my hands out below the X Eagle and letting it land on my hands.
**Battery Life and Charging**
The X Eagle contains a 5200 milliamp hour battery, which FlyPro claims will provide 20-22 minutes of flight time. However, I averaged around 16-18 minutes, but it's not far off. The Smartwatch charger connects magnetically, which was a nice touch.
**Pricing and Variations**
There are four versions of the FlyPro X Eagle: the X Eagle Light (where you provide your own action camera), the X Eagle Sport (with an integrated 4K action camera), the X Eagle Advanced (with a two-stick remote controller and a rotating gimbal camera), and the X Eagle Professional (with collision avoidance for obstacles up to 15M away). They retail at $489, $569, $759, and $849, respectively. Early adopters who backed the Kickstarter campaign can grab the X Eagle starting at $289.
