Apple's Foldable iPhone - Everything We Know!

The Concept of a Foldable iPad and iPhone: A Reality Check

In recent years, there have been numerous patents filed by Apple and other manufacturers showcasing their designs for foldable devices. One concept that has garnered significant attention is the idea of a foldable iPad that can be used in both mini-tablet and tablet form factors. This design would allow users to easily switch between two different modes: one where they can carry the device in their pocket, similar to an iPhone, and another where they can unfold it into a larger tablet.

To create such a concept, designers began by studying the current iPad Pro 2018 design. They then added a hinge that would allow the device to be folded in half, creating a small tablet around the size of an iPad Mini when folded. This foldable design enables users to have both worlds at their fingertips - the convenience of a compact device and the versatility of a larger screen. When folded, the device becomes almost pocketable, making it ideal for use on-the-go.

One of the most striking aspects of this concept is its potential impact on Apple's products lineup. With a foldable iPad, users could enjoy the benefits of both an iPhone and an iPad without having to carry multiple devices. This would eliminate the need for switching between two separate screens and allow users to seamlessly transition between different modes. The design also incorporates a hinge that allows for easy unfolding and folding, creating a seamless user experience.

However, there are still several challenges that Apple and other manufacturers face when it comes to producing foldable devices at an affordable price point. One of the most significant hurdles is the cost of production, particularly when it comes to display technology. Foldable displays require more complex manufacturing processes, which can drive up costs. Currently, Samsung's foldable display units are considered among the best available, but they come with a higher price tag.

Another factor that contributes to the high cost of foldable devices is the need for batteries. Since foldable phones often have two separate batteries, one on each side, these batteries require more power and thus consume more energy. This can lead to shorter battery life, which is a major concern for users who rely heavily on their devices throughout the day.

Despite these challenges, many experts believe that foldable devices will become increasingly mainstream in the coming years. Apple has already filed patents for a foldable iPhone, and Samsung has demonstrated the capabilities of its foldable display technology through various prototypes. The company's interest in foldable displays suggests that it may be exploring ways to integrate this technology into future products.

In fact, recent news from supply chain sources indicates that Apple has begun testing foldable displays from BOE (a display manufacturer). This development is significant, as it suggests that Apple is taking a more serious approach to integrating foldable technology into its devices. The use of BOE's displays would likely result in higher production costs, but it could also lead to the creation of high-quality, durable foldable devices.

The question on everyone's mind is: would users be willing to pay a premium for these innovative devices? While some may see the potential benefits of foldable technology as worth the extra cost, others might find it too expensive or cumbersome. Ultimately, the success of foldable devices will depend on user adoption and demand.

Foldable devices are undoubtedly the future of mobile technology, but there is still much work to be done before they become widely available and affordable for all consumers. As manufacturers continue to refine their designs and production processes, we can expect to see improvements in durability, battery life, and overall performance.

The potential benefits of foldable devices extend far beyond just improved functionality. They also offer a glimpse into a future where technology is seamlessly integrated into our daily lives. Whether it's an affordable iPhone that unfolds into something like an iPad Mini or an iPad Mini that unfolds into an iPad Pro, the possibilities are endless. As we look to the future, one thing is certain: foldable devices will play a significant role in shaping the way we interact with technology.

Foldable devices are not just about innovation; they're also about form and function. A device that folds into a compact form factor can be as useful as a dedicated tablet or smartphone, depending on how it's used. This flexibility is what makes foldable devices so exciting – they offer users the freedom to choose their mode of operation based on their needs.

Of course, there are also challenges associated with using a device in both mini-tablet and tablet form factors. One of the most noticeable issues is the crease in the middle of the display, which can be distracting and detract from the overall user experience. Other concerns include durability, as the hinge and display require careful handling to avoid damage.

Battery life remains another major challenge for foldable devices. Since these phones often have two separate batteries, users need to ensure that both are charged before using the device. This can lead to shorter battery life than what is expected from a typical smartphone or tablet. As manufacturers continue to work on improving display technology and power efficiency, we can expect to see significant advancements in this area.

Despite these challenges, there's no denying that foldable devices have captured the imagination of many tech enthusiasts. From sleek designs to innovative functionality, these devices offer a glimpse into a future where technology is seamlessly integrated into our daily lives. As manufacturers continue to refine their designs and production processes, we can expect to see improvements in durability, battery life, and overall performance.

In conclusion, while there are still several challenges associated with producing foldable devices at an affordable price point, the potential benefits of these innovative technologies make them well worth exploring. From improved functionality to enhanced form factor, foldable devices have the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with technology.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enokay so before starting this video I just want to propose a challenge to you guys can we hit 50 tails and followers on Instagram by the end of the month can we do that we're currently at I believe 41 k so if we can hit 50 K by the end of September we're gonna give away a pair of air pods - or even air boss 3 and if we hit by whatever miracle 100k we're gonna give away something even more special something from the Apple event that was announced at the Apple event so yeah let's see if we can do it just go to Instagram calm starzone of tech give a follow and I don't know have a look at some awesome content that we post there and yeah I'll be back at the end of the mountain you know in a few minutes seconds back so we're in 2019 now or 2017 depending on when you're watching this video but in 2019 at least everyone started focusing on foldable devices and mobile smartphones especially Samsung LG Huawei TCL Rho yo Motorola pretty much every or pretty much all the major smartphone manufacturers are now working and even released in some cases there are foldable phones and Apple has actually recently applied for a few patents of their own foldable devices both an iPhone and an iPad say I get Oh snacks ready and here's everything need to know about both of those you keep your Mac running fast and secure check out Antigua and lx9 that includes a number of very useful tools for your Mac use the link below to get a 60 percent discount ok so foldable devices are indeed the future this is where smart phones will be heading towards this is the next stage of portable devices just like how smartphones were the next stage of cell phones foldable devices are the next stage of smart phones there's only so far you can take smart phones of today and they've already reached a point where they can really go that much further you know the new iPhones that were just released this week even though they look identical to the iPhone 10s from 2018 or yeah content from 2017 they will be getting a redesign in 2020 with no more notch at this time but once you've reached that design that point in time with a full screen piece of glass that you hold in your hand there is nothing else that he can do with that you know rectangle would always be a rectangle unless of course you fold it in half and that is indeed the future so here's how all of this started not the channel but you know foldable devices so Samsung is actually the pioneer and the main innovator in the foldable devices industry back in 2011 at CES 2011 they showed us the first foldable displays but Samsung has actually been working on those for a few years before they showed them to the public so reports are saying that Samsung actually started working on foldable displays back in 2008 yes 11 years ago so then why haven't they released any foldable phones yet well in 2013 Samsung did show a TV ad in which they demoed their foldable display technology being used on a foldable phone or foldable tablet that was an amazing concept but it's exams in six years until they finally unveiled their actual foldable phone which was as you probably know the galaxy folds but as you might be aware the Galaxy fold was breaking for reviewers after just a few days or even hours of use in some cases because mostly because of a screen protector that was actually not a screen protector but as crucial parts of the display which some reviewers ended up peeling off which you know in the end ended up breaking the display and it wasn't just that but thus was also getting into the inside of the display just because of a hinge mechanism and causing it to break samsung has eventually fixed those issues and are going to re-release the Galaxy fold this month in September but foldable phones are indeed a very difficult test to do the main issue right now is the display itself you know glass isn't flexible so the displays actually need to be made out of plastic which means that they're extremely easy to scratch and you know if the deeper scratch touches the pixel well rest in peace here entire display and therefore here entire phone this is why the Galaxy fold actually folds on the inside card an outside or to protect a display but it's also results in a very very tiny and almost unusable third display on the outside while we on the other hand with our mate X falls on the outside which means that while you do get to use half of that massive 8 inches play which looks amazing and will be significantly more prone to scratches and damage since you know the plastic display itself is always always exposed but by far the hardest thing to get right in these phones to foldable phones is the software yes you need to have a very fluid transition between folded and the unfolded modes and so far Samsung has actually managed to be a pretty good job in this regard but then why Wei Xiaomi and Royale are all very very glitched at least at this point in time ok so now I walked you through why foldable devices are going to be big in the future and why they're still tricky to do as of today but what is Apple really working on because out of all the major smartphone manufacturers Apple seems to be the only one that isn't really interested in foldable devices or foldable phones at all well you see that's not necessarily true and that's because back in February 20 1980 news who've actually had some pretty good track record in the past they claimed that Samsung plans on supplying foldable displays to Apple not only that but apparently Samsung has made a display 7.2 inch in size that was actually foldable and they delivered it to Apple yes and it wasn't just Apple they actually delivered is to Google as well and then patently Apple released a full report on this as well alongside some even more details but from the looks of it it seems like Samsung is aware that Apple is actually interested in foldable displays and foldable devices and they send them one of their prototypes you have a look at okay so interest is one thing but are there any other steps that Apple has taken towards a foldable device well on the 28th of May 29 teen Apple has applied for a patent or actually a number of patents on what it seems to be a foldable iPhone and also a foldable iPad so this is a massive 46 page document that goes into use brief detail as to how a foldable Apple device would actually work like this mostly showcases the way the hinge would work rather than going into a lot of detail about the entire functionality of the device and in this pattern there are many references to and inwards folding display so yes it seems like Apple when they want to make a foldable device at least as of now they want to make it into something similar to the Galaxy fold that folds it words rather than you know the wall we made X that folds outwards however they did also talk about the advantages and disadvantages of an inner folding as well as an outer folding display and they were also talking about a flexible display made out of glass or even sapphire now we know that's not possible but Apple is actually exploring different mixtures in order to make that happen because if they do manage to make a flexible glass or at least a display that's more durable than the pure plastic one that Samsung and while we are using and Xiaomi and pretty much everyone else well in that case it means that Apple might even be able to have the display fold both ways yes both inwards and outwards so those news were from back in May but since then we've actually had some even more recent updates in August so CNBC reported that UBS did a survey on how much customers would actually pay extra for a folding phone and apparently the average that consumers were willing to pay extra was $600 also the interest was actually higher among Apple users than you know Samsung or Sony or LG or anyone else so the demand that the interests are definitely there and UBS also believes that a folding Apple device would actually be coming next year in 2020 now personally I don't think that this is going to be the case 2020 is just too early and there are so many quirks that Apple still needs to solve with their foldable advice and it's not just Apple you know everyone has to solve those things also the way Apple operates is that they usually wait out and see how any technology performance before implementing it verdun you know being the first ones to the market Samsung on the other hand has messed up so badly with a fold that they themselves said that they felt ashamed of how bad a launch went Apple definitely wants to avoid such a scandal especially after how bad a whole airport release went yes air power was announced two years ago in 2017 alongside the iPhone 10 and there was teased over and over only for Apple to cancel it entirely now the thing is Apple has patents on both a foldable iPhone as well as a foldable iPad we've actually done a video before on the foldable I phone here but in this one we've our concept on the foldable iPad so the way we've done our concept is quite in a realistic manner so instead of making the concept that we will have love to make and you know to see Apple make we actually based it off of the current iPad pro 2018 design and we added a hinge that would allow it to be folded in half we made ours fold on the outside so that when the iPad pro is folded you have something around the size of an iPad Mini to use and this is just incredible because the iPad Mini is almost pocketable so this will be a very small tablet that unfolds into a much larger one but just like we've seen from Apple's patents it is very likely that is foldable iPad will actually fold both inwards so to protect the display and also outwards so that you can use it in the iPad Mini for factor when you need something that's a bit more pocketable and portable and yes I know the bezels do appear quite thick while this is in the iPad Mini 4 factor now Apple will very likely make these thinner by the time this new iPad gets released but until then this is how Apple could do it at the moment if there were to do this today based on the iPad pros form factor now just like I mentioned before apple also has patents on a foldable iPhone not just a foldable iPad and a foldable iPhone would work in a very similar manner as to how the galaxy fold or even though we made X would work where you have a thicker but smaller phone that unfolds into a mini tablet and since Apple has been given seven point two inch foldable display units by Samsung themselves it is looking more likely that this is what Apple is mostly interested in a foldable iPhone and not affordable iPad even though we've had reports on both also some recent news coming from supply chain sources in China claim that Apple has also began testing foldable displays from Bowie so in case you don't know Bowie is the display manufacturer for Wally's made X and it is considered a bit more advanced than Samsung's own panel is because of the slightly improved scratch resistance when compared to Samsung display over Boies display is more expensive to manufacture than Samsung's which means that if Apple ends up using Bowie's displays Apple's foldable iPhone or iPad would actually be even more expensive than the one we've made X currently is which is by the way $2,600 or 2,000 pounds in the UK so that's a that's a lot and this is the main issue right now foldable phones are not that difficult to make but are pretty much impossible to make at an affordable price point today and realistically how many of you would actually pay $3,000 or maybe even or for a foldable iPhone it would be an amazingly cool and futuristic device you have but it will also be thicker and chunkier than a modern iPhone is so it would be worse than an iPhone A's well at the same time also being smaller and a bit more cumbersome than a dedicated iPad is so yeah that's that's always the thing with two-in-one devices they're never as good as a device that's dedicated to a specific function any other as many other issues that all the manufacturers need to fix there's the crease in the middle of the display which is very noticeable on every single foldable device today and there's of course the durability of the display that's the biggest issue and not even to mention the battery life you see batteries are not foldable so these phones each you have two batteries one on each side and they also need to have some fairly large ones since in the end this is a tablet not just a smartphone but a future is indeed foldable devices person I think that 2025 around 2025 would be one will prefer egg this technology and when foldable devices would be good enough for us to use them as a daily driver I guess I mean that they will be as good as a regular smartphone is today but yeah I would love to hear what you guys think about a potential foldable iPhone or a foldable iPad which one do you guys prefer personally I would go for affordable iPhone that unfolds into something like an iPad Mini or than an iPad Mini that unfolds into an iPad pro so yeah foldable devices are the future and I cannot wait for that future to be truly here and yeah also let me know two comments your thoughts on foldable devices in general I'm just the Apple ones the iPad foldable or the iPhone foldable foldable devices in 2019 what do you think of the galaxy fold and while we may tax and also the upcoming show me what will fun let me know in the comments and yeah the fleeces car modification he's got to see more interesting tech videos like this one hopefully was good it is like if I'm do it to let me know I'm Daniel and I'll see you guys in the next one it's an effect tiny now let's Cheers\n"
