This New $15,000 Truck Just Killed Ford’s Future

**The Challenges of Modern Cars: Finding Quality Mechanics**

In today's era of complex cars, finding quality mechanics who can diagnose and repair them can be a daunting task. Many people are turning to online resources and asking friends for recommendations, as traditional dealerships often prioritize sales over maintenance. However, with the increasing complexity of modern vehicles, it's essential to find a reputable mechanic who understands the intricacies of these machines.

A good mechanic knows that the problem may not always lie with the car itself, but rather with the driver or the maintenance schedule. "Mechanics are getting lower and lower in quality as cars get more and more complex," says an expert. "They blame it on the machine, well, the machine says it's good, well, no obviously it's not right." Finding a skilled mechanic who can identify the root cause of the issue is crucial to resolving the problem efficiently.

**Rust and Frame Repair**

One common issue that older cars face is rust damage to the frame. "If it's not too thick you can get a sand blaster blast the rust off prime it and then spray some coating on it," says a veteran mechanic who has successfully repaired his own truck. However, if the rust is extensive, welding large pieces of steel over the affected area may be necessary. This process requires great care and attention to detail to ensure that the frame remains sturdy.

**Tipping Mechanics**

In the past, tipping mechanics was not a common practice, as they were often paid well for their services by dealerships. However, with modern cars becoming increasingly complex, mechanics are now able to charge higher prices for their work. While it's not necessary to tip a mechanic, some people do so as a way of showing appreciation for their skills and dedication.

**Engine Braking on Automatic Transmissions**

When driving down a steep hill in an automatic transmission vehicle, many drivers assume that engine braking is the best option. However, this assumption can lead to unnecessary wear and tear on the brakes. "If you have modern cruise control that really works well," says a seasoned driver, "put it on cruise control set it and that's better." This approach allows the car to maintain its speed while minimizing brake wear.

**The Reliability of Manual Transmissions**

Manual transmissions are often misunderstood as being fragile and prone to failure. However, with proper care and maintenance, they can last for many years without significant issues. "Breaking a manual transmission is not difficult," says an expert who has driven stick-shift cars for years. "What you have to worry about is burning a clutch out wearing it out too fast." To avoid this problem, drivers should learn how to accelerate smoothly and gradually shift gears.

**The Mazda Skyactiv-X Technology**

Mazda's Skyactiv-X technology is a relatively new engine innovation that promises improved performance and efficiency. While opinions may vary on its effectiveness, many experts agree that it holds up well over time with proper maintenance. "I would buy it over turbocharged engines," says an expert who has driven both types of vehicles. "It seems to hold up quite well." However, it's essential to remember that no engine is perfect, and regular oil changes are crucial for maintaining its performance.

**The Evolution of Mazda**

Mazda's reputation has undergone a significant transformation over the past few decades. Once known for producing unreliable automatic transmissions, the company has worked hard to improve its offerings. Today, Mazda vehicles are praised for their reliability and durability. As a result, Mazda's technology, including the Skyactiv-X engine, is being shared with Toyota, making it an attractive option for car enthusiasts.

**The Importance of Regular Maintenance**

No matter what type of vehicle you drive, regular maintenance is essential to ensuring its longevity. This includes changing oil regularly, following recommended maintenance schedules, and addressing issues promptly. By taking care of your car, you can avoid costly repairs down the line and enjoy a smoother driving experience.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, finding quality mechanics who understand modern cars is crucial to resolving problems efficiently. Rust damage, engine braking on automatic transmissions, manual transmissions, and Mazda's Skyactiv-X technology are just a few of the topics discussed in this article. By following expert advice and taking care of your car, you can enjoy a smoother driving experience and avoid costly repairs down the line.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enrev up your engines CJ Alexander said I just picked up a 2023 Maverick what's your opinion on these trucks it's a very interesting design because it's Ford's first front-wheel drive truck so it rides more like a car than a truck and it gets phenomenal gas Modge my jury is out it's not in yet because they're all made in Mexico and I have a real problem with bad quality control in Mexico so I don't know if they're going to hold up over time I have no idea and Ford is kind of pissed that they're selling a bunch of them because they want to sell the 60 80 $90,000 F-150 F250 trucks they don't want to sell these trucks that cost a lot less because of course they're making less money on them if know they're making them cheaper in Mexico they don't cost as much so there's a smaller profit now we'll see over time how they hold up if they hold up you know they got a gold M but they better hold up cuz Toyotas coming out with their Toyota Stout and when that thing comes out a little pickup truck sell like hot cakes if they don't have any problems like the Tacomas used to be the Rangers and Tacomas were neck and neck now Toyota sells four five six seven times as many Tacomas as Ford sells Rangers so they better get their acting gear because if they do have problems they'll all just migrate to Toyota like they did in the past Carlos Gonzalez says what do you think of the 2020 Subaru WRX with a manual transmission well they're Zippy Vehicles people want something like that they tend to like driving them around and the biggest problem with modern day Subarus are the Transmissions somewhat weak right well that's a manual transmission they don't really have problems with them if you're looking for a manual transmission all-wheel drive vehicle that's a pretty good one to get really aren't that many manual transmiss left and a lot of companies don't even make them anymore and if that's what you want hey so frankis Scotty what are your thoughts on 2018 to 2010 Porsche cayen the average ones of 140,000 Mi but are on a cheaper side thanks well they're cheap cuz they're endless money pits anybody who would buy a porsh Cayenne with that kind of mileage on it is nuts unless they're mechanics I've known mechanics that would buy a vehicle like that but they were their own customers cars the customers wanted new ones so they bought them they maintained the car and they knew that they took good care of it because they paid them so the mechanic would buy them and sometimes they drive them around and have some fun with them right open market one wouldn't touch it with a 10ft pole guys generally beat the heck out of them and they are endless money pits all Porsches when they get older the parts cost the fortune the people who work on them are going to charge you a fortune a lot of guys won't touch a lot of systems on the porches we require special the equipment that cost the fortune and they don't want to get involved in buying that rat race spend Millions on equipment charge Millions to your customers a lot of guys don't want to get in that rat race I don't blame them what say afternoon I just got a 2022 for an expedition with a 3.5 EcoBoost are there any problems to watch out for don't listen to any of the crap they give you about oil changes change the oil INF filter use the gf6 full synthetic oil and do it every 5,000 miles or once a year whichever comes first then you're going to get rid of a lot of problems they have the turbochargers have problems with burning out why do they burn out cuz they spin thousands of RPMs and they're lubricated by engine oil the engine all gets dirty it ruins the bearings and the turbochargers right it is doubly important on a vehicle like that to change the oil every 5,000 miles and if you do baby it I've had people have 150 160 and they're still running perfectly fine Honda fan one two three so Scotty why do I feel a small vibration under my seat once in a while when I have the AC on okay you turn the AC on it Changs the a little you got to haunt it right let's say you don't never get vibrations but you turn the AC and then you feel some it usually means your AC compressor is getting a little bit worn when you turn the AC on your computer's supposed to equilibrate to raise the idle a little so it compensates for the drag on a compressor so that it idle's right not too low right as they age the compressor will drag a little bit too much and then sometimes you'll get a little vibration if it still blows cold check the refrigerant make sure it's full of refrigerant but there's really nothing you could do other than by extremely expensive compressor and as long as it blows cold and it's okay it's generally something you're going to live with 1996 RDR says what are the long-term effects of using ethanol free gasoline in my new car well it's not going to have any effects the only reason they use ethanol is because it's a cheap way to boost octane the Ed of an octane boost and it was carcinogenic and it caused problems in California so they made it illegal they had to replace it with something right replaced it with ethanol at the limits that most gasoline is added 10% and sometimes 15% % Max with the additives they put in the gasoline the ethanol which is alcohol doesn't really affect a modern car at all right now if you went to get one of those E85 that's 85% ethanol 15% gasoline no you can only use that in what called Flex Fuel cars and it'll say on the car this is a flex fuel car you can run anything from zero ethanol to 85% ethanol which is z85 right the problem with ethanol is you get worse gas mod it's got 20% less energy than gasoline so let's say you buy E85 Ethanol and you get a flex Fel car you're going to probably get 20 25% worse gas mileage than you did with gasoline so you always have to balance that out if you go that far but putting nothing all free in a modern car you're throwing your money away just use the regular stuff CL D said should I buy a Mercedes C300 2017 I wouldn't but it's your money the C-Class is their cheaper class they call it something else but to me it means a cheaper class right the quality control is crap Guy brought me one last year he was so mad he brought to me and I showed all the things that were wrong he wanted to shame Mercedes for buying a car that had all those problems right I would not touch one with a 10-ft pole not in the least if you're going to buy a Mercedes only buy ones that are made in Germany they are better made I still wouldn't buy one they're overpriced the parts cost too much I work on them I know guess what I don't buy I don't buy the cars that break all the time that cost a lot of money to fix I get Toyotas and Alexus I don't want to spend my spare time fixing my own cars Marvin AA says Scotty I've taken my car to several shops to be aligned but it's not align the mechanics say on the system it shows it's line but when I drive it's not what could be the issue crappy mechanics that don't know what they're doing they don't do it anymore cuz they only do trucks now but when I was in Houston there was a front of place called Cotton Brothers old guys were there right wayer was one of them he was a damn good mechanic he would get the old physical tools measure the angle and he would always fix any car I brought to him the guys who work at these joints now a lot of them are just idiots and they're trained they got a machine push the button on a machine oh the machine said it's a line that's it no that isn't it there's a lot of things that can be physically checked but don't know how because they're too stupid they have training all they have is an electronic computer they push a button and then it's supposed to tell them what to do right problem is mechanics are getting lower and lower in quality as cars get more and more complex then they blame it on the machine well the machine says it's good well no obviously it's not right you need to find a real fronted alignment shop that knows what do ask your friends most places have one somewhere you got to find Old School guys to do that kind of stuff behold the media says is there anything I can do to fix rust on the frame of an older Toyota truck well you watch that old video my son's old Tacoma truck where I boxed the frame in it was all rotten on one side so I got quarter inch steel and I welded a box around the whole thing to hold it in place and he drove it another eight years and then sold it it was still going down the road you know if it's not too thick you can get a sand blaster blast the rust off prime it and then spray some coating on it it'll last longer but if it's already all rotten away I mean the only thing you can do is dry the Box in by welding giant pieces of Steel he'll cut the fit over it and then box it in by welding it all together in a box says what are your thoughts on tipping Mechanics for their work in my day nobody ever tip mechanics it wasn't a thing now when I was running my own business in Houston Texas a lot of times guys would tip me cuz they knew that I was doing something for 200 the dealer would have charge them $2,500 for doing and they'd often give me a tip but it's not something that you necessarily do like in a restaurant okay mechanics make good money waiters make crap money so they have to get tips or they don't make enough money mechanics make enough money you really don't need to tip a mechanic but you know if he's your private mechanic like me I work by myself a lot of guys would tip me they wanted to keep me happy CU they knew what the other side was like the other mechanics who were ripping them off Z roostar says is it really better to use engine braking on an automatic transmission going down a steep hill or use the brakes a lot of them if you're going down a steep hill you don't get engine braking that just keep spinning and spinning and spinning right the best thing to do is if you have modern cruise control that really works well I'm driving a 20 23 that I'm testing now and when I put it on cruise control and it's going downhill it stays that speed the modern ones are good the old ones are crap my old celico you put the cruise control on if you're at 50 time you get the bottom of the hill might be doing 90 didn't work as well but the modern ones work quite well if you do have cruise control put it on cruise control set it and that's better it's not going to hurt anything stepping on the brakes of course will burn the brakes out faster and then if something does happen if you going down a big hill and you got your brakes on you can actually lose the brake they will over overheat and they won't work anymore DD Maga dudo says is it difficult to ruin a manual transmission I started driving stick and I'm scared to death a breaking it manual transmissions are relatively strong instead of all these computer crap and valves and oil pumps it's just you shifting it with your hand the Transmissions themselves are pretty solid what you got to worry about is burning a clutch out wearing a clutch out too fast you have to learn how to just gradually give it a little gas a little clutch don't do burnouts accelerate slowly don't go like a Mania right the main thing you do over time is wear out the clutch the transmission itself the only way you can really destroy it would be like you go down a Highway 55 and for some reason shift it into reverse that would destroy the transmission entirely and they last an awful long time if you're rough on the clutch though you will wear the clutch out and that costs usually close to a th000 bucks these days to replace clutches when they finally wear out Jacob C says hey Mr kmer how do you feel about M the Sky Active X technology would you buy it over turbocharged engine well I would they seem to hold up pretty well pretty good engine change the oil every 5,000 Mi using full synthetic that new gf6 oil they seem to hold up quite well I think they're doing a pretty good deal of course now Toyota owns some of Mazda they Share technology and Mazda is a much better company it was say two decades ago when they were making some pretty crappy automatic transmissions they don't have the problems that they used to have so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos remember to ring that Bell n\n"
