Thank you for watching, liking, commenting, and subscribing! I'm happy to report that I've been re-upped for my Microsoft MVP status for Windows, specifically in the consumer Market Place. I have to say, I've been looking forward to getting my hands on a few Windows 8 tablet computers, although I do have some concerns with bifurcating the user experience. However, I'm still excited about Windows 8 at least as far as living inside of the Metro experience is concerned - not so much for the classic desktop, that's just me! I'm trying to move forward and hopefully I'm not the only one looking forward to Windows 8 in that sense, even though it's still a little rough around the edges. Hopefully, by the time it ships, it'll be in good shape.
If you're considering sticking with Windows XP or Windows 7, you may want to know that you can kind of have both if you have Windows 7! I don't know if you realize this, but you can install something called XP Mode. Even if you didn't want to upgrade to Windows 8, you are on Windows 7, or maybe you're on XP and wanting to upgrade to 7 but you want to have compatibility with all your XP applications or apps that would only work well with Windows XP. You may consider installing XP to have XP Mode from within Windows 7. We've got the full instructions available on the article that we've linked in this video's description, it's pretty simple as long as your computer meets the hardware and software requirements. All you have to do is just go to the windows virtual PC website, download the Windows XP Mode software, install it in Windows 7.
So, long as you've got the right version of Windows 7, which there are different versions of Windows 7, I don't know if you knew that but the article of course has got a link to where you can verify whether you're running the right XP or the right version of Windows 7 to install XP Mode. If your applications are running just fine in s and there's a question should you upgrade to eight well, you may wait don't do it immediately. But if you're on Windows 7 now and you miss some of those applications that used to work in XP but no longer in s, XP Mode may be the thing that you want to look into.
It's something that is certainly been valuable for those who haven't quite made the leap to seven because they were afraid their XP apps wouldn't run. I'm calling them "apps" by the way, programs utilities tools - it's almost like the universal word for applications, programs, binaries. I think we've all kind of rallied around that as an idea of this little utility, which is just an app. So, if you're not using XP Mode on Windows 7 now, you may consider it especially if you've got some apps that are no longer running because they won't work in seven without running inside of an XP Mode. It's easy to do and it's free.
As a Microsoft MVP for Windows, I'm happy to report that I've been re-upped and I'm excited about the future of Windows 8. I know some people have concerns with bifurcating the user experience, but I think there's potential for growth and innovation in this area. While the classic desktop may not be as exciting, I believe that the Metro experience has a lot to offer.
If you're considering upgrading from Windows XP or Windows 7 to Windows 8, I would recommend waiting until you can get a feel for the new operating system. If your applications are running just fine in s and there's no compelling reason to upgrade, then maybe it's not worth making the switch yet. However, if you're on Windows 7 now and you miss some of those applications that used to work in XP but no longer run in s, XP Mode may be a good option.
As for using XP Mode, I think it's an underappreciated tool that can provide a lot of value for users who are hesitant to upgrade from older versions of Windows. It's easy to install and use, and it doesn't require any special hardware or software beyond what you already have on your computer.
Overall, I'm excited about the future of Windows 8 and I think that with the right approach, we can create a user experience that is both familiar and innovative. Whether you're using XP Mode or planning to upgrade to Windows 8, there are many options available to help you get the most out of your computer.
