Apple iPad - First Look at the iBook Application _ Consumer Reports

Jeff Fox here, technology editor of Consumer Reports, and we're at the Hands-On now for the new Apple's new iPad. As I take a look around, I see all my books are these actual books that are already available. Is this just like well, the store's not running? A hint, a hint of what we're going to get? Okay, so let's take a look at Ted Kennedy's Book again. You've got the little scrubber at the bottom; click on the font icon.

My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, but I'll try my best to see this clearly. Take a look at the text, you can tap on it. It seems like there are some interesting features here. If I just hold down on the screen with one finger, and click it time after time, the size of the text will get larger until it gets to the maximum size. You can change the font by clicking on the font button.

Looking at the text, something looks brighter than a Kindle, the back lighting seems to be quite good. I'm not trained to evaluate these things, but the text looks pretty crisp and sharp. And considering it's a touch screen, I don't see any click buttons to turn pages. Instead, you can take a sneak preview of what's coming next, which is quite interesting.

Now, let me try to switch this to single page view or is it always not in this orientation? Ah, yes! It seems like if I find that the text is too small, I can switch to a single-page view. This might be useful for people with vision issues, as they would want to keep things in one page at a time.

I see about 20 lines of text here, and it feels pretty comfortable. The edges are thinner than expected, making it easy to hold in my fingers. It seems very impressive, like a cross between a MacBook laptop and an iPhone. This iPad runs all the iPhone apps, and I'm excited to explore more features.

One thing that was surprising is that they're sticking with AT&T as their provider. Although they seem to have some good plans available, it's worth noting that competition can always bring better deals in the long run. We'll see how this works out in the future.

The bookstore feature on the iPad seems to be expanding, offering a wide range of content for download. It's an exciting development, and I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of books will be available on this new device. With its sleek design, impressive display, and wide range of features, the Apple iPad has all the potential to revolutionize the way we consume books and media.
