iPhone 15 Pro Max -- 2 Month Review!

shoot it at three times focal length you're going to have to use digital group digital zoom on your main sensor and it's not quite as good as it was on like the 14 pro so a little bit of a trade-off there in certain scenarios the one feature I've really come to appreciate with the cameras is the ability to both capture live photo data and depth data on many of my standard photos basically your iPhone is going to automatically detect if there's a person a cat or a dog and if it detects any of those subjects it'll collect that depth data while also recording a live photo that means you don't have to switch to portrait mode to capture a portrait photo every time and you don't have to choose in that moment if you want a portrait shot or a live shot this is huge with kids babies and pets I mean there's so many times Harrison's doing something you know cute it's like oh look at that cute thing you're doing baby and I'll go to take a photo then I can choose after the fact of is this a good shot do I need to adjust where you know the the live photo is and get a better still or do I want to switch it to a portrait shot and give you that nice background blur and bokeh you have the options every single time sometimes it does take like a second or so so if you don't hold the shot for a moment for it to detect it won't capture that depth data but for the most part it does and this has easily been one of my favorite features of the iPhone 15 Pro we also have to talk about spatial video so this is coming in iOS 17.2 which is currently developer beta testing soon when this is released you'll be able to capture 1080p 30 frames per second spatial video on your iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max now hear me out I don't know if I'm buying a vision Pro come March whenever it's released I don't know but we just had this whole new round of handson time from other journalists that got to try out these spatial videos and they're really pitching this as one of the key features of this headset and how you really feel like you are there in that video when you're watching it back to me recreating these memories is a huge reason to consider the Vision Pro so right now I want to start doing two things recording spatial video whenever I can and capturing more Ultra super wide landscape Panorama shots cuz these are both going to be highlights of the Vision Pro even if I don't buy or you don't buy the vision Pro come 2024 maybe you'll buy a second generation unit maybe you'll buy another one in 2025 maybe that will be more affordable than the Vision Pro just Apple Vision whatever it's going to be called and at that point it'll be really nice to have a catalog of spatial videos already captured on your iPhone so for me I like this I think it's going to be huge I'm going to love looking back at these memories eventually whether I get the Vision Pro second generation model cheaper model whatever it is I'm going to want to have them so I love that option here on the Vision Pro even though it's not even out yet or on the iPhone 15 Pro even though it's not even out yet I buy an iPhone every year I'm a yearly upgrader this year feels like a bigger jump than normal there's all these cool camera features that actually like make a difference I'm using that new telephoto lens and these live portrait combo photos a lot I'm starting to use that spatial video stuff I really like the titanium look feel and weight of this phone just everything about it has been wonderful I really like these new iPhones more than in the past like they just feel like like a newer experience compared to years before the one thing I have not cared about is USBC that's also been a big selling point here but for me i' I plugged in a cable like one time since I've had it I just go mag safe whatever mag safe stuff that you've got lying around uh I prefer that and that's the way I've continued to charge my phone even after moving to USBC I I just never use that stupid Port there on the bottom so to me that's been a wash but everything else has been a great upgrade for me so what do you guys think do you like the changes that Apple implemented on the iPhone 15 series let me know Down Below in the comment or on Twitter at Andrew ossu you can also let me know on threads at Andre Hera 941

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enas of today it has been exactly 2 months since the iPhone 15 lineup has hit the market let's re-evaluate the iPhone with our TW Monon iPhone 15 pro and pro max review welcome everybody Welcome to Apple Insider it is Andrew here and apple released the iPhone 15 lineup on September 22nd of 2023 so here we are two months later basically daily use of Apple's latest and greatest smartphones so I want to take a step back and re-review this device to see what has held up and what was just a bunch of marketing hype so let's get into it our two-month review of Apple's iPhone 15 Pro Max before we get too far into this video I have to thank iPhone Casemaker and R for sponsoring this video you're going to see this guy throughout this video quite a bit this year for me it was tough I typically stick with the iPhone Pro Series like the 14 Pro 13 Pro whatever cuz the pro Max is usually a little unwieldy for me and it's just a little bigger than I actually need I'd rather just use an iPad or computer when I'm at home and when I'm away I just want a smaller screen but with that five times optical zoom lens on the pro Max I had to go with the max version this year but fortunately with the new lighter design and everything it really hasn't bothered me all that much the iPhone 15 launch this year was a little rough I mean we had Supply shortages of the 15 Pro Max for ages I'm pretty sure it's still sometimes hard to get these phones in certain configurations depending on where you look um there is people who are literally waiting weeks and weeks to get their hands on these phones worse than it normally is um possibly just due to the higher Demand on the plus-sized Pro phone additionally there was some software issues I mean we had that perceived screen Burnin thing going on that Apple fixed through a software update we also had possible overheating issues on the new phones again Apple fix this through a software update and we haven't heard anything about it since fortunately for me I didn't experience either of these two issues but they were very prevalent and widely covered fortunately Apple did act swiftly in correcting them but yeah as far as launches go this one seemed to be a little more Rocky than normal I did get my iPhone at launch and since I didn't experience any of those issues my launch wasn't too bad so it felt pretty standard as far as iPhone launches go and one of the things I was really excited to see in real life was the titanium body so let's go ahead and remove this you know nice looking case here to take a look at the naked iPhone itself so I went with the natural titanium which seems by and large to be probably the most popular color and I'm happy with it I'm happy with my color choice though I probably could have gone with the white version I still really like it especially as I have the other white one in the studio but um the the natural looks really nice and I've gotten so many compliments on my phone this year the other day we were out taking like Christmas photos and I handed someone my phone to take a photo for us and the Holy Smokes is this the titanium one this looks cool this feels so light like just a lot of compliments that I don't usually get with my other iPhones so there's definitely a lot of people who are intrigued by this titanium body and like the look of it I love the look out of it I I love that there's no longer fingerprints like this looks so much more clean than the stainless steel ones do this is just a huge win for me I love the look of the titanium it looks fantastic it's held up really well and it's even lighter which again for me is a benefit on this Pro Max version cuz it's not quite as heavy as the stainless steel ones used to be running inside of Apple's iPhone 15 Pro Line is Apple's a17 Pro chip the first pro chip that Apple has created what I can really say is I haven't noticed any speed Improvement I mean my phone doesn't falter in any way it doesn't feel like it's stuttering or slow by any means but I don't notice any big speed improvements over my iPhone 14 pro it just not much faster at least in your typical daily tasks now the GPU is a a whole other question and it does sound like there's a lot of power there but right now there's not many games to take full advantage of it I'm still waiting for some really cool games to come out that'll really push the performance of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max but right now it just feels like performance- wise the same as like the last two iPhones that I've used the two biggest things though are probably the camera and the action button and I think if we can just hit timeout for like 90 seconds or so I have to thank our sponsor for this video antar now this is a true story that I want to tell you guys here as I tell you about their amazing cases so every year I do these case Roundup videos and when the new you know iPhones launch I head online and I start just perusing trying to find the best cases that I can include and someone had recommended that I check out andar and I had never heard of them before but as soon as I landed on their website I'm like w these are some cool cases before I had done anything andar actually reached out to us and they wanted to sponsor a video and like this is so seren dipitous so they sent over their Aspen case which is currently up for pre-order and you guys have probably seen it in a few of my other videos because people keep asking about it so the Aspen is 100% premium full grain oil waxed leather that absolutely looks incredible the inside has a super soft microfiber lining and you can see all the lovely detail work here including these metal buttons on the side that are incredibly tactile and yes there's even one for the action button here on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max there's full coverage on the bottom and just leather wraps the entire thing which is super hard for case manufacturers to do and there's even a metal ring around the camera something that not even Apple's leather cases do of course it's entirely mag safe compatible so use it with your mag safe Chargers mag safe stands and you'll have no issue I legitimately haven't taken this off my phone since I put it on there I really like like this case if you want to try one for yourself there's a link Down Below in the description and if you use code Apple Insider you can get 15% off sitewide there's free exchanges if you happen to order the wrong size 90-day return window all the products use 100% full grain leather they're wonderful again use code Apple Insider for 15% off sitewide and again thank you to andar for sponsoring this video so where are we again it was the um the action button there's a lot lot of debate now on the action button and I'm getting a little bit of like touch bar Vibes where there's a lot of people who are saying like it's unnecessary they don't use it I've seen some Twitter or X polls that are like do you use the action button anymore and it's kind of been mixed results personally I love the action button I really really do I think it's only a good thing to have like these additional Hardware controls cuz it's a very solid button it feels great and I use it for a bunch of stuff so I actually set mine to run a shortcut so it has like a whole folder of shortcuts where I can do everything from like feed my cat opening up certain apps that I use all the time that I don't like put into the dock um I can get my blood sugar through the Dexcom app I can run like apple frames to add frames to screenshots that I take for articles that I'm writing setting Focus modes like all these cool things that I can do just by pressing my action button so I like it and apples also seem to actually been implementing new features for it unlike the touch bar that they abandon like the second that it would hit the market so with upcoming software updates you'll be able to use the action button to translate things which is super cool you can just immediately press it and it'll start translating your conversation whether you're speaking or somebody else is speaking uh it can automatically detect languages and stuff like it's a really neat little trick for the action button to do and next time I travel abroad I'm for sure switching my action button to that but for daily stuff I like my shortcuts do a bunch of things like literally use it as a hot launcher for a whole folder of apps if you want use it to open tabs and Safari like there's so much you can do with shortcuts or Apple's just already native ones like voice memos Focus flashlight all this stuff or just leave it as your ringer and stop complaining about it the cameras I think are a little bit of a mixed bag but overall I really like the improvements here so the biggest news is moving to five times optical zoom on that telephoto lens up from three time zoom on the last generation models a lot of times I feel like the five times is too much like I'm in the house I'm trying to take a photo of Harrison or the dogs like five times is too much it's like it's in your face and I don't need it um but there are other times where it's really handy like if I'm outside the house five times is really solid so you have to kind of evaluate where you're taking photos and if that five times is going to be what you're looking for it's also nice to have up to 25 times digital Zoom which I think looks pretty darn solid um gone to a few concerts and baseball games and stuff like that and it's nice to have a lot more zoom on your phone that actually produces usable photos that you couldn't get before there are many times I'm still missing the three times optical zoom because right now if you want to shoot it at three times focal length you're going to have to use digital group digital zoom on your main sensor and it's not quite as good as it was on like the 14 pro so a little bit of a trade-off there in certain scenarios the one feature I've really come to appreciate with the cameras is the ability to both capture live photo data and depth data on many of my standard photos basically your iPhone is going to automatically detect if there's a person a cat or a dog and if it detects any of those subjects it'll collect that depth data while also recording a live photo that means you don't have to switch to portrait mode to capture a portrait photo every time and you don't have to choose in that moment if you want a portrait shot or a live shot this is huge with kids babies and pets I mean there's so many times Harrison's doing something you know cute it's like oh look at that cute thing you're doing baby and I'll go to take a photo then I can choose after the fact of is this a good shot do I need to adjust where you know the the live photo is and get a better still or do I want to switch it to a portrait shot and give you that nice background blur and bokeh you have the options every single time sometimes it does take like a second or so so if you don't hold the shot for a moment for it to detect it won't capture that depth data but for the most part it does and this has easily been one of my favorite features of the iPhone 15 Pro we also have to talk about spatial video so this is coming in iOS 17.2 which is currently developer beta testing soon when this is released you'll be able to capture 1080p 30 frames per second spatial video on your iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max now hear me out I don't know if I'm buying a vision Pro come March whenever it's released I don't know but we just had this whole new round of handson time from other journalists that got to try out these spatial videos and they're really pitching this as one of the key features of this headset and how you really feel like you are there in that video when you're watching it back to me recreating these memories is a huge reason to consider the Vision Pro so right now I want to start doing two things recording spatial video whenever I can and capturing more Ultra super wide landscape Panorama shots cuz these are both going to be highlights of the Vision Pro even if I don't buy or you don't buy the vision Pro come 2024 maybe you'll buy a second generation unit maybe you'll buy another one in 2025 maybe that will be more affordable than the Vision Pro just Apple Vision whatever it's going to be called and at that point it'll be really nice to have a catalog of spatial videos already captured on your iPhone so for me I like this I think it's going to be huge I'm going to love looking back at these memories eventually whether I get the Vision Pro second generation model cheaper model whatever it is I'm going to want to have them so I love that option here on the Vision Pro even though it's not even out yet or on the iPhone 15 Pro even though it's not even out yet I buy an iPhone every year I'm a yearly upgrader this year feels like a bigger jump than normal there's all these cool camera features that actually like make a difference I'm using that new telephoto lens and these live portrait combo photos a lot I'm starting to use that spatial video stuff I really like the titanium look feel and weight of this phone just everything about it has been wonderful I really like these new iPhones more than in the past like they just feel like like a newer experience compared to years before the one thing I have not cared about is USBC that's also been a big selling point here but for me i' I plugged in a cable like one time since I've had it I just go mag safe whatever mag safe stuff that you've got lying around uh I prefer that and that's the way I've continued to charge my phone even after moving to USBC I I just never use that stupid Port there on the bottom so to me that's been a wash but everything else has been a great upgrade for me so what do you guys think do you like the changes that Apple implemented on the iPhone 15 series let me know Down Below in the comment or on Twitter at Andrew ossu you can also let me know on threads at Andre Hera 941 uh thanks again to andar for sponsoring this video otherwise stay tuned got a lot more videos coming your
