The Art of Creating Military Chic: A Step-by-Step Guide

As Mr. Kate explained, "Chic" is a French term that refers to looking damn good. And when it comes to adding a touch of military flair to your wardrobe, there's no denying that military Chic can be a game-changer. In this article, we'll follow along with Mr. Kate as she transforms an old jacket into a stylish and functional piece.

Analyze the Structure of Your Jacket

Before starting the transformation, it's essential to analyze the structure of your jacket. As Mr. Kate pointed out, "First step you want to just analyze the structure of your jacket." She noticed that her jacket had a collar that would be perfect for adding a couple more military-esque buttons. This will help create a cohesive look and add depth to the overall design.

Removing Buttons and Preparing for Spray Painting

Mr. Kate began by removing the existing buttons from her jacket. "First order of business maggots," she joked, "you're going to spray your buttons." She headed outside to spray paint the new gold buttons that would replace the old ones. Before painting, she checked what type of material they were made of, discovering that they were both wood and metal. This meant she wouldn't need to use primer, which saved her some time and effort.

Spraying Paint and Adding Gold Trim

With the buttons removed and ready for spray painting, Mr. Kate got to work. She sprayed paint onto the new gold buttons, loving how they turned out against the cream-colored jacket. The result was a sleek, modern look that incorporated military elements. As she added more details, like the trim around the sleeves, it became clear that this transformation would not only update her jacket but also give it a fresh and exciting style.

Sewing Buttons Back On

With the new buttons in place, Mr. Kate turned her attention to sewing them back onto the jacket. She chose a thread color that matched her coat pretty well and used a regular needle with doubled-up thread to sew on each button. "Loop through the holes till it feels secure," she advised, as she carefully stitched the buttons into position.

Adding Sew Buttons (Medals)

Next, Mr. Kate created what she called "my medals" – small, decorative buttons that would be sewn onto the collar of her jacket. These were made from a braided material and added an extra layer of detail to the overall design. She measured the circumference of her sleeve and gave herself an extra inch, just in case.

Sewing Medals into Place

To add these "medals" to her jacket, Mr. Kate simply sewed them onto the collar using the same thread as before. As she worked, she ensured that each stitch was secure and wouldn't fray over time. To complete the look, she added a few more decorative touches, like tacking threads around the edges of the trim.

The Finished Product

With all the final details in place, Mr. Kate stepped back to admire her handiwork. The transformed jacket now boasted not only its new gold buttons but also a sleek braided trim and an overall military-inspired design that exuded style and sophistication. As she said, "I made my jacket military Chic because why not?"
