Google I_O 2014 - What to Expect!

Google I/O: What to Expect and What's Already Been Announced

As we approach Google I/O, one of the most highly anticipated events in the tech world, Android enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement. This year's event promises to bring significant updates and announcements that will shape the future of Android. In this article, we'll delve into what's already been rumored, announced, or expected to be revealed at Google I/O.

Android Wear IO: A New Era for Wearable Devices

Google has been working on a new version of its wearable operating system, Android Wear IO, designed specifically for smartwatches and fitness trackers. While not much is known about the new OS yet, it's clear that Google wants to revolutionize the way we interact with our wearables. The company aims to provide a seamless experience across devices, making it easy for users to switch between their phone and wearable without any issues. With Android Wear IO, Google hopes to finally solve the problem of fragmentation in the wearable space.

LG Watch and Moto 360: The First Smartwatches to Run on Android Wear IO

Two smartwatches that have been unveiled at the same time as Android Wear IO are expected to be among the first devices to run on this new OS. The LG watch and Moto 360 are rumored to be among the initial devices, although not much is known about their specifications or features beyond their design.

Samsung Smartwatch, HTC, and Asus Rumors

There have been rumors of a Samsung smartwatch that might also run on Android Wear IO, potentially powered by this new OS. Additionally, there have been whispers of an HTC smartwatch and an Asus device, although these are still just speculations at this point.

New Nexus Tablet: Volantis, the Rumored Device

A new Nexus tablet has been rumored to be announced at Google I/O, code-named "Volantis." The device is expected to feature an 8.9-inch display with a 2048x1440 resolution, powered by a Tegra K1 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16 or 32GB of internal storage. Other rumored specs include an 8-megapixel camera on the front, a 3-megapixel front-facing camera, aluminum zero-gap construction, and stereo front-facing speakers.

The Nexus Tablet: A Beast of a Device?

If the Volantis tablet does indeed get announced at Google I/O, it's likely to be a powerful device. The specs suggest that it will have the processing power and storage capacity of a high-end smartphone, making it an excellent choice for those who need a robust device for productivity or entertainment.

Google Nexus 8/9 Tablet: Not Officially Announced

While the Volantis tablet has been rumored, Google hasn't officially announced its plans for a new Nexus tablet. Typically, Google doesn't release new versions of Android without announcing reference hardware to go along with it. However, if we do see a new Nexus tablet at I/O, it will likely be designed in collaboration with HTC or another OEM.

Android 4.5/5.0: A New Version of the OS?

There have been rumors that Google might announce a new version of Android at I/O, possibly code-named "L." While Sundar Pichai has confirmed that we'll see an update to the operating system at I/O, it's unclear whether it will be 4.5 or 5.0.

Android TV: Bringing the OS to Large Screens

Google has been working on Android TV, a platform designed for large screens such as TVs and set-top boxes. The OS is expected to offer an intuitive interface with a tiled design, allowing users to access their favorite apps and services easily. With Android TV, Google hopes to capitalize on its success in the gaming space, particularly with Chrome Cast.

Android TV and Gaming

Gaming is expected to play a significant role in Android TV, offering users a wide range of games across various platforms. This could be an excellent way for developers to reach new audiences and showcase their work on larger screens.

Autolink: Bringing Android to Cars

Google has been working on Autolink, a feature that will allow drivers to interact with their Android smartphones directly through their in-car dashboards. While details about the feature are scarce, it's clear that Google is committed to expanding its presence in the automotive space.

Project Tango and Project Ara: Wearables and Modular Smartphones

Google has been working on several projects related to wearables and modular smartphones, including Project Tango and Project Ara. These projects aim to create more flexible and customizable devices, allowing users to add new features and components as needed.

Driverless Cars: Google's Efforts in Autonomous Technology

Google has made significant strides in driverless car technology, partnering with companies like Audi, GM, and Honda to bring this technology to the masses. While details about the Autolink feature are scarce, it's clear that Google is committed to advancing its presence in the automotive space.

Chrome OS: A Growing Presence

Chrome OS has been gaining traction as a lightweight operating system designed for web-based applications. With Google I/O, we might see more announcements about Chrome OS and its growing presence in the market.

In conclusion, Google I/O promises to bring significant updates and announcements that will shape the future of Android. From new wearable devices to expanded gaming capabilities and advances in autonomous technology, there's much to look forward to at this year's event.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey what is going on Guys lawn here from Android authority and Google IO is right around the corner so let's talk about it let's talk about what we can expect from Google IO this year so 2014 has been the year of wearables and this year at Google IO we're expecting a lot when it comes to wearables earlier this year Google unveiled Android Wear and Os made specifically for wearable devices because up until this point oems have had to either make their own wearable operating systems or heavily modify the phone version of Android to work on a wearable device but obviously Google is looking to resolve that with Android Weare but we still don't know everything we need to know about it so we're expecting to learn a lot more about Android Weare IO and on top of learning more about Android Wear we're anticipating an official announcement of the LG watch which is rumored to also be given away this year for Io attendees and then there's the Moto 360 these were both unveiled at the same time as Android Weare and will be the first two smart watches to carry the new OS but we don't know much about either of these two watches outside of their design so we're definitely going to be expecting to learn about the specs of both of these watches and most importantly the pricing and availability besides the Gat and the motor 360 there's also been some Rumblings that we might see a Samsung Smartwatch also powered by Android Weare and potentially ones from HTC and Aus there's no doubt that we're going to see the gwat and the Moto 360 but as far as everything else we're just going to have to wait and see as far as any other mobile Hardware is concerned there's been a lot of rumors of a new Nexus 8/ Nexus 9 tablet code named the volantis supposedly made by HTC rumor specs include an 8.9 in display at 2048x 1440 resolution a Tegra K1 processor 2 GB of RAM 16 or 32 gigs of internal storage an 8 megapixel camera on the front 3 megapixel front-facing camera an aluminum zero Gap construction and stereo front-facing speakers whether we'll actually see this tablet at IO seems unlikely as it's rumored for a fall release but based on the rumored specs it sounds like it'll be a beast of a tablet if we do indeed get a new Nexus tablet typically we don't expect a new version of Android without some reference Hardware to go along with it and Google usually doesn't unveil a new version of Android at IO they've only done that once so far a couple of years ago with the original Nexus 7 but Sundar pacai recently just confirmed that we will be seeing the next version of Android at IO uh whether that will be 4.5 or 5.0 or the official L release that everyone is anticipating we don't really know yet but what we do know is that it is coming but it's only going to be shown off at IO and not officially released until the fall which falls in line with other major Android releases and the rumored release date of the next Nexus tablet what we do know though is that there definitely is going to be a new design refresh at least when it comes to the apps with what Google is dubbing as Quantum paper along with a new design Quantum paper is supposed to unify and create a much more consistent experience across all apps whether it's on Android the web or iOS we might see some Android TV related stuff as Google has been trying to establish themselves in the TV space for a while now and the Nexus Q and the Google TV have pretty much been failures but they've had success with the chomecast and they're looking to capitalize on that success with Android TV which is basically Android adapted for large screens so instead of an actual device it's been rumored to be a platform that oems can use to manufacture devices with from the leaked screenshots that we've seen it looks to be very simple and intuitive with a tiled interface and you're going to get access to all of your usual apps that you'd expect from a set toop box including the Play Store and supposedly gaming is going to be a big part of Android TV as well Google is also looking to bring Android into cars with Partners like Audi GM and Honda already on board and we're expecting Google to introduce autolink a feature that will allow drivers to interact with their Android smartphones directly through their incard dashboards we don't know much else about it but don't expect Google to make any announcements as far as to what cars will actually be carrying the technology we don't really know what other surprises Google might have up its sleeve but I'd keep an eye out on Project Tango Project Ara the driverless car Nest Chrome OS and the list goes on but that is it guys uh let us know in the comments section what you are looking forward to most at Google
