The Color of Perfection: A Conversation about Cars and Design

As I walked into the garage, I couldn't help but notice the array of cars on display. There were sleek red sports cars, shiny white sedans, and even a few exotic rides that made my jaw drop in awe. The owner, a self-proclaimed car enthusiast, was excitedly talking about his latest find - a blue car with a unique design that he thought would look amazing on one of the cars in his collection. "What color is it?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me. "I know the name of it," he replied confidently, but quickly realized he had forgotten. The owner went on to tell me about his plans for his cars, which included getting them wrapped, aligned, and new seats installed. He also mentioned that he had ordered parts from Technica, including a Lamborghini GT3 RS, but didn't have the car himself because it still needed some repairs. the middle of the shop and then I will reveal it to you guys I'm so pump it looks so sick not just the front end I changed I had to change the front wheels because now they need to be wider and when I change the front wheels I have the same width tire but I chose a different tire on all four corners and it's truly because race car you're not going to want to go anywhere until you see this thing it is menacing looking to say the least we torqu the wheels yes sir all right you guys I want to thank think the whole team here at DTM Auto Body putting their Blood Sweat and Tears into this project for to the back of the car if I do a full repaint right I little things like the slits in the back bumper these guys want to widen the rear quarters a little bit for the record the actual race cars the mercy race cars they don't have anything touched on the rear quarters so if you want to be like period correct then technically we can't do it but we'll see I'll leave it up to you guys instead of guys because yes the front bump to the front to the I love I actually love that that happened I was like are we in a department store so we have an exposed carbon splitter and exposed carbon bumper so it's all kind of blending in together right now you guys trust me we know that will change once we go to PFS then this will all get wrapped white this is all going to get wrapped white of course now in the end the guys did me a solid and instead of me wrapping the louvers individually in a gloss black they went ahead and this is actual paint they painted them they have the headlights all together they're all wired up show what it looks like with the full endurance racing race mode they actually had a Porsche tow hook that resembled this one but the Porscha to hook was way too short to actually get mounted to the chassis of my car so it was usable we want to make sure everything on here is purpose built they ended up drawing out the design and I said hey my boy Mike Essa back at the shop we have this big fancy plasma cutter he could make the toe hook just get me the dimensions I was back home at Canada they drew one out of cardboard sent it to me with a measuring tape beside it with all the measurements I took that photo sent it to Mike Mike cut it out we ubered it here and they got it powder coated and mounted to the chassis and put on how crazy is that but look at this now with the fog lights and everything so now what I want you guys to tell me is do we go ahead and do the traditional racing yellow lens over top of the lights or do I leave the lights white I don't know white on some level for me it's going to be easier to see at night but I want to come to this side now because what's really important and again I'm sorry it's it's going to get wrapped I was so excited and I this mesh in and we decided to leave that because some of the merci Loos have a little slit there we made it a little more pronounced because I was like hey you know this is the street version of the race car let's make it a little more pronounced and they custom widened the factory s skirt to come up and meet it this is all hand done you guys look at the craftsmanship and how nice that is and it's all perfectly smooth it's primered primer doesn't off gas the way that paint does so I don't have to wait 2 to 3 weeks for this to off gas before I wrap it which is why we didn't paint it this is the widest part of a mercy go right down on here this piece of the S skirt whether it's a non-lp or an LP car this is the part that won't fit in between the wheel wells on like for example my trailer that's why I can't tow this car in the trailer at the front of the trailer it actually won't go between the wheel wells it's really not going to go between the wheel wells now is it guys in all fairness if you know this kit this still isn't complete cuz this is as much as I love APR this is an APR Wing this is not technically period correct for this and these uprights are custom from Mike just from a drawing from the other RAC car and the diffuser technically is made by Mike now the only thing back here is the ryer race car tail lights and this is an actual FIA endurance racing rainlight but everything else has been custom made I could go and talk to Ron who actually has Ron has the ryer carbon diffuser the difference is guess how much it is $3500 that's not bad bro we made that for like 300 bucks but that's a piece of metal that's three yeah so is the rer one it's like carbon over it's car over metal okay they just get you with the lambo tacks right and I could find the proper Rider Wing which some people debate should be lower but they did make variations of the mercy race car with a wing this high so it really comes down to personal preference and I actually like this height this height looks really good I do think though if I could talk to APR I would get this a little deeper the width is fine comes right out to the edges of the rear quarter panels but man you guys killed it any really big hurdles you had to over come while doing this build that you want to share with these guys the overall shape of it you know I had a higher wheel Arch we had to bring that down when you bring that down all the dimensions changes you know so you know it's just one of those things that you kind of finesse cut it trim it you try one side you do all the final like cutting measuring I think the first side is always the most difficult yeah um after that it's yeah it's a walk in the park for the other side walk in the park well my hat's off to you guys because you is DOT approved is the Toyo sports or the whoer R7 and you know what because race car you guys why not have the balls to drive this thing on a slick this is a slick Tire yeah I don't know if you guys seen it yet or noticed it but this is a brand spanking new tire so let's hope I don't hit rain and by the way they also fixed the windshield wiper for me we got a motor they tore the whole motor apart and rebuilt the housing because the housing is proprietary to the Gen one Mercy's the lp Motors are different so it doesn't fit but we took the guts out of one put the guts in there and I have a working mono wiper again when you only have one wiper it's important that that one little son of a works you know when I came here we were testing everything out and this was just barely rubbing because this is a more Square wider Tire what we ended up doing was we cut about this much off actually when I say we long this guy right here barehanded no gloves cut this cut this off and look how done done done and then there's going to be all the little things I still got to dial in like I think the wing definitely needs to be a bit wider I might even go as far as actually lowering the wing same I have like a an endurance racing style front splitter for whatever reason Patrick and the guys at DTM were like it almost looks a little unfinished with this like way they did the cutout here is this going to stay carbon right yeah splitter stays carbon and then you just want to do the white around the edge or you want to do white up here that's a good question Jason's all about the details it's all the details same this this pie could go white or could be car that that'll go white for sure yeah you want to leave these exposed black or do you want to wrap them white I think we'll leave to the I love I actually love that that happened I was like are we in a department store so we have an exposed carbon splitter and exposed carbon bumper so it's all kind of blending in together right now you guys trust me we know that will change once we go to PFS then this will all get wrapped white this is all going to get wrapped white of course now in the end the guys did me a solid and instead of me wrapping the louvers individually in a gloss black they went ahead and this is actual paint they painted them they have the headlights all together they're all wired up show what it looks like with the full endurance racing race mode they actually had a Porsche tow hook that resembled this one but the Porscha to hook was way too short to actually get mounted to the chassis of my car so it was usable we want to make sure everything on here is purpose built they ended up drawing out the design and I said hey my boy Mike Essa back at the shop we have this big fancy plasma cutter he could make the toe hook just get me the dimensions I was back home at Canada they drew one out of cardboard sent it to me with a measuring tape beside it with all the measurements I took that photo sent it to Mike Mike cut it out we ubered it here and they got it powder coated and mounted to the chassis and put on how crazy is that but look at this now with the fog lights and everything so now what I want you guys to tell me is do we go ahead and do the traditional racing yellow lens over top of the lights or do I leave the lights white I don't know white on some level for me it's going to be easier to see at night but I want to come to this side now because what's really important and again I'm sorry it's it's going to get wrapped I was so excited and I wanted to honor these guys for because some of the merci Loos have a little slit there we made it a little more pronounced because I was like hey you know this is the street version of the race car let's make it a little more pronounced and they custom widened the factory s skirt to come up and meet it this is all hand done you guys look at the craftsmanship and how nice that is and it's all perfectly smooth it's primered primer doesn't off gas the way that paint does so I don't have to wait 2 to 3 weeks for this to off gas before I wrap it which is why we didn't paint it this is the widest part of a mercy go right down on here this piece of the S skirt whether it's a non-lp or an LP car this is the part that won't fit in between the wheel wells on like for example my trailer that's why I can't tow this car in the trailer at the front of the trailer it actually won't go between the wheel wells it's really not going to go between the wheel wells now is it guys in all fairness if you know this kit this still isn't complete cuz this is as much as I love APR this is an APR Wing this is not technically period correct for this and these uprights are custom from Mike just from a drawing from the other RAC car and the diffuser technically is made by Mike now the only thing back here is the ryer race car tail lights and this is an actual FIA endurance racing rainlight but everything else has been custom made I could go and talk to Ron who actually has Ron has the ryer carbon diffuser the difference is guess how much it is $3500 that's not bad bro we made that for like 300 bucks but that's a piece of metal that's three yeah so is the rer one it's like carbon over it's car over metal okay they just get you with the lambo tacks right and I could find the proper Rider Wing which some people debate should be lower but they did make variations of the mercy race car with a wing this high so it really comes down to personal preference and I actually like this height this height looks really good I do think though if I could talk to APR I would get this a little deeper the width is fine comes right out to the edges of the rear quarter panels but man you guys killed it any really big hurdles you had to over come while doing this build that you want to share with these guys the overall shape of it you know I had a higher wheel Arch we had to bring that down when you bring that down all the dimensions changes you know so you know it's just one of those things that you kind of finesse cut it trim it you try one side you do all the final like cutting measuring I think the first side is always the most difficult yeah um after that it's yeah it's a walk in the park for the other side walk in the park well my hat's off to you guys because you nailed it you literally made my dreams come spanking new tire so let's hope I don't hit rain and by the way they also fixed the windshield wiper for me we got a motor they tore the whole motor apart and rebuilt the housing because the housing is proprietary to the Gen one Mercy's the lp Motors are different so it doesn't fit but we took the guts out of one put the guts in there and I have a working mono wiper again when you only have one wiper it's important that that one little son of a works you know when I came here we were testing everything out and this was just barely rubbing because this is a more Square wider Tire what we ended up doing was we cut about this much off actually when I say we long this guy right here barehanded no gloves cut this cut this off and look how even It Is by hand with his eye the one like just
