The Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator: A Review of 21st Century Tech
Rick Stella here with Digital Trends and today we are reviewing Samsung's family Hub refrigerator designed to connect family and serve as the literal center of an owner's home. The family Hub is impressive even if it is a little bit on the outrageous side, like any typical fridge its interior boasts three levels of refrigerated real estate and an abundance of shelf space but where its inside truly shines is with this adjustable second level shelf that makes storing taller items like milk or a bottle of water here much easier.
Below the fridge we've got a relative small freezer section though Samsung does include its patented Flex Zone compartment which gives owners the ability to fully customize the temperature from storing white wine at its ideal temperature to creating extra refrigerator or freezer space. The flex zone is completely well flexible, but enough talk about what literally every other fridge on the market does. Let's talk about why we call the Family Hub a bit outrageous as we close the fridge here you'll notice something a bit out of the ordinary.
Samsung has slapped a 21 1/2 in touch screen that gives owners complete control over everything you'd expect like the temperature of the fridge freezer and flex zone access to the internet. The ability to Sham Pandora, you know standard refrigerator stuff over the top probably but Samsung's built-in tablet could very well be the future of fridges with quick access to everything from local weather reports to recipe access via all recipes. This massive touchscreen also allows users to sync their daily schedules upload personal photo albums and stream music through Pandora or tune in there's even an app here on the home screen that lets you leave handwritten or type messages to your family members.
Thing is these features only scratch the surface as Samsung has packed this thing to the gills with 21st century Tech. Owners also have the option to mirror TV to the fridge from a Samsung TV of course record voice messages set cooking timers keep track of the time order groceries and see a real-time view of everything inside the fridge thanks to these strategically placed cameras in the family hub's door. With this feature you can tag food that may expire soon like gallons of milk and be alerted once the timer is up and access snapshots of the frid's content so you know what to pick up at the store.
But we know what you're thinking, how much does this thing cost? Well Cutting Edge Tech is hardly ever inexpensive and same goes for the family Hub which touts a whopping $6,000 price tag via Samsung's website though we did see it for around $4,800 via a site like Best Buy. So there you have it Samsung's entering into the category of the future of fridges it may seem a bit over the top maybe a tad unnecessary but we can't help but see the incredible value this would have to connect families make life around the kitchen incredibly easier and stream YouTube in Pandora and it's a fridge what's not to like.
