Review of "The Iron Trial" by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black

Hey everyone, it's Hayley here today to review one of my favorite books, "The Iron Trial" by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black. I have to say, I'm a huge fan of both authors individually, but this is the first time they've teamed up on a project together. The cover art for this book is absolutely stunning, it looks like a graphic novel cover, but I really love it. It's clear that the creators of the book went all out to make it visually appealing.

So, this is the first book in a new middle-grade fantasy series, and I have to say, I'm excited to see where Cassandra Clare and Holly Black will take us on this journey. The story follows Callum Hunt, a boy who has been warned his entire life by his father to stay as far away from magic as possible. However, now that he's at the age where he needs to take the Iron Trial, which is the test to see if he has enough magic to attend the Magisterium, the Magic School in this world, Callum finds himself in a precarious situation. He tries his bestest to fail the trial, so he can avoid going to the Magisterium and obeying his father's wishes, but things don't quite go as planned.

When Callum ends up failing at failing, he has no choice but to attend the Magisterium, where everything becomes a lot more complicated. The author gives this book four out of five stars on Goodreads, and overall, I think it's a pretty good read. However, I did find that the first 200 pages were a bit slow; there wasn't much happening, and I had trouble getting into the story at first. I understand that this is the first book in a fantasy series, so a lot of world-building needs to happen, but I still found it a bit tedious.

But don't worry, things pick up in the last 100 pages, which are absolutely fantastic. The author throws you curveball after curveball, and I was completely surprised by what happened. The story is full of shocking moments that really add to the tension and excitement. One thing I did find interesting about this book is the magic system; it's based off of four elements: chaos, earth, water, and fire, which are manipulated in different ways throughout the story.

I also have to say that I enjoyed the characters in this book. Callum, the main character, can be a bit annoying at times; he's more like an anti-hero, but his friends Aaron and Tamara make up for it. Aaron is particularly interesting, as he brings out a different side of Callum that you don't see initially. The relationship between these three characters is really heartwarming, and I loved watching them interact with each other.

Overall, I think "The Iron Trial" is an amazing book that will keep you hooked from start to finish. While the first 200 pages can be a bit slow, the last 100 pages are absolutely phenomenal. If you're looking for a fun and exciting read, this is definitely a series worth checking out. So, there you have it; my review of "The Iron Trial" by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey everyone it's hay and today I'm going to be doing a review of The Iron trial by Cassandra clir and Holly black so one minute cover appreciation love it it looks like a graphic novel cover but I really like it I don't know so this is the first book in a new middle grade fantasy series of five books and it is also the first time that Cassandra CLA and Holly black are teaming up and also I believe the first time Cassandra CLA is writing about something other than the shadow Hunter world so this book is about boy named Callum hunt and Callum has been warned all his life by his father to stay as far away from Magic as possible but Callum is now but Callum is now the age where he has to take the iron trial which is the test to see if he has enough magic to go to the magisterium which is the Magic School in this world so Callum is trying very very hard to fail this test so then he won't have to go to the magisterium and can obey his father but he ends up failing at failing and he has to go to the magisterium and of course when he goes to the magisterium a lot of stuff happens so I gave this book a four out of five stars on good reads I overall thought it was a pretty good read but the first 200 Pages it's about a 300 page book and the first 200 Pages were a little bit slow there wasn't much happening and I was kind of having a little bit of trouble getting into it although I do understand it's the first book in a fantasy series so a lot of it has to be world buing but but I still found that there wasn't much happening even in regards to World building but then the last 100 pages are crazy to me those were like five stars but since the rest of it wasn't as good I gave it four stars so a lot of this book is kind of mystery you're trying to figure out why he's been worned to stay away from Magic and I was trying to guess this whole time but I got it all wrong like it's a lot of shocking things happen and that shock Factor really upped the the book for me so in regards to the action that there was in the book it was really awesome because a lot of the stuff you didn't expect I mean you're trying to figure it out and you're guessing and guessing but I guessed everything wrong so in regards to characters I thought the characters were pretty enjoyable overall so there's Callum who I found him kind of annoying he's kind of like the anti-hero and then his two best friends Aaron and Tamara Tamara was fun she's she's just a fun smart character she's really clever and she has that hidden kind of side to her but she was overall a very fun character and then Aaron Aron was a very interesting character to me and he kind of offsets Callum um and I thought that was they had a really interesting relationship so the story of this book overall was very interesting I felt like it wasn't like anything I'd ever read before a lot of people have been comparing this book to Harry Potter just because it's about three best friends two girl two guys and a girl and because it takes place in a magic school but it's really not like it at all the magic in this book is based off of four elements so there's chaos magic Earth Magic water magic and air magic five and Fire magic yeah so all of the magic that is done in this book is based off of manipulating those Elements which I think is super cool like the whole Magic system is really awesome so overall I would recommend this to a friend I thought it was a very fun quick read and even though those 200 Pages were a little bit boring it definitely picked up in the end and it was all worth it so that is all for today's review I hope you guys enjoyed this video and I'll see you in the next one byehey everyone it's hay and today I'm
