**Book Haul: A Exciting Collection of New Releases**
I recently picked up a few exciting new releases that I just can't wait to dive into. First up is Iron Widow by Zorana J. Zhao, which has a stunning cover that really caught my eye. The concept of the book sounds intriguing, with a steampunk-inspired world where robots called "pilots" are used for transportation. The main character, a girl, teams up with another pilot to take down a group of robots responsible for her sister's death. I'm not entirely sure how to explain it without getting into too much detail, but the idea of these robots and the danger they pose is really interesting.
I also picked up The Inheritance of Arcata Divina by Zoraida Córdova, which has another beautiful cover that I just can't stop looking at. This book seems to deal with themes of legacy and family power, as the main character invites people to her funeral for the first time in a long time. It's set in Ecuador, where she buried secrets and broken promises, and follows the descendants of the titular character as they travel there to uncover the truth about their past. I'm really drawn to the idea of this book surrounding family and inheritance, and how it will explore these themes.
Next up is The Bones of Rune by Sarah Raleigh, which I talked about in a recent video. It's one of my most anticipated releases for the rest of the year, and I'm super excited to get my hands on a copy. This book follows an African tightrope dancer who performs in Victorian England, but has a secret: she can't die. There's also a magical element to this story, which really intrigued me. The idea of a tightrope walker with supernatural abilities is just so compelling, and I'm eager to see how the author will develop this concept.
Margaret Rogerson is another author whose work I've enjoyed in the past - her books Sorcery of Thorns and An Enchantment of Ravens are both solid and enjoyable fantasy novels. Her latest release, Vesper Teen, seems like a great fit for around this time of year, with its themes of faith, sacrifice, and self-discovery. The story follows a young woman who is training to be a nun-like figure known as a Grey Sister, who cleanses the bodies of the dead so that their souls can pass on. However, when the convent is attacked by undead soldiers, she must use ancient magic to awaken an ancient spirit and protect her fellow sisters.
Finally, there's She Who Rides the Storm by CaitlÃn Sáenz, which gives me major Six of Crows vibes - I just can't get enough of heists! This book follows four characters who embark on a daring heist, with the added twist of shape-shifters who used to be part of their world. The story seems like it's going to be big and epic, with a lot happening. I'm excited to see how the author will develop this concept.
I want to thank Karma for working with me once again on this video - it was a pleasure! If you guys are interested in checking out any of these books, be sure to follow the link in the description below. I'll be back with more videos soon, so stay tuned!
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: eneveryone it's haley and today i am going to be doing a book haul so for me this is actually on the smaller side in terms of a book haul but i have some books that i'm really excited to share with you guys today and some books that i can't wait to read like i have been getting right back into reading after the chaos of moving and it has been so lovely and i can't wait to get to so many of these and i feel like i've said that like five times in this video and we've only been filming for a minute and a half but it's true so i did want to take a second to thank the sponsor for today's video karma i have worked with karma quite a few times now and i love their app it's a google chrome extension or app where it saves you money and like i don't know what else you could want i love shopping so i love something that's going to save me some extra money i actually was able to save some money on kingdom of the curse by carrie maniscalco which is one of the books i'll be talking about today but this went on sale on indigo and i saw that because i had it saved on my list on karma so then i was able to save some extra money which is beautiful so to start out all you need to do is go to the google chrome store and download the extension and then you are ready to get shopping but essentially the way that karma works is that you can save items to your profile and then you can organize those items further into lists i love this feature because i have a lot of different interests and it helps me to keep things organized and not get overwhelmed and i find that the app overall helps me to not make impulsive purchases if i see something i like i'll save it to my list and then i can be notified by email or push notification when there's a price drop or a sale or even if an item is out of stock and it comes back into stock karma also has a really useful feature where it will scan the web for coupon codes at checkout to help you save even more money and i love that that's always the cherry on top when i save a little bit extra than i was expecting karma also has a cashback feature with selected stores i honestly just love their service and with christmas around the corner it's the perfect time to check it out because you can do your shopping see what you want to get other people and then save it so then you can purchase it when it's on sale because it's kind of sales season coming up and you can even like save the things that you want obviously but you can let people know when it goes on sale so then you know you're helping each other out it just works and that list organization feature will be super helpful for that so if you guys are interested i will have a link to check out karma down below i highly recommend it i know it will definitely help you to save some money and that's never a bad thing so speaking of the first book for today's book haul is kingdom of the cursed by carrie maniscalco this is the sequel to kingdom of the wicked which came out last year and cara maniscalco is the author of stalking jack the ripper which i loved that series like she just writes really great romances and they always happen to be really good for around like the fall halloween time of year and i am really excited to get to this sequel because i enjoyed the first book a lot it's set in italy in like i don't think it's like a victorian time period per se but it is kind of around then so it's historical in italy and it deals with a demon prince and witches sorry that was charlie shaking his body because he's on the floor but i listened to the audiobook for the first book last year and it was perfect for this time of year so i have the audiobook for this one as well and i'm really really looking forward to getting to it and i will probably be reading it very soon next up is roxy by neil shusterman and jared shusterman so this is actually the author of scythe but it's also written with his son and this seems like a very interesting concept i think it's going to be a difficult read definitely some triggers associated with it but it's about two drug gods so one like represents adderall and then the other represents oxy and it's the two of them are betting on mortals and from what i've seen it shows how addiction can progress how easy it is to fall into that and how it can tear families apart like the effects of that so i think it's definitely a very timely and relevant read but for sure it's not going to be an easy one i feel like i'm standing so much closer than i was before but i'm trying out a new camera angle so i i don't really know where to stand yet next is all this time by mickey daughtry and rachel lippincott so this is by the authors of five feet apart which came out as a movie and i never actually read the book but i was definitely intrigued by the movie and i watched it and was pretty pleasantly surprised by how much i liked it because my expectations were kind of low i don't know why but in this case i believe with their other book it was a movie first and then they wrote the book but for this one i believe it's just a book i could be totally wrong about that actually did this come out last year and then this is just a paperback release because i thought it was an arc oh it did come out last year okay well i clearly am so out of touch with things but this story is going to be an emotional one as well because it follows this couple like they kind of have the perfect relationship have been dating all throughout high school but then they end up breaking up on the night of their graduation party and then they actually get into a car accident on the way home and the girlfriend dies and then the boyfriend is left with a brain injury and he ends up meeting this other girl who has also been through some pretty traumatic things recently and they end up bonding so i think this is i mean you can see where i say that it's probably going to be pretty emotional but i should probably read one of their books since i did enjoy the five feet apart movie and i would be interested to see like what a book by them would be like i don't think that really made sense so i'm just gonna move on next is for all time by shanna miles so i am so excited to have this book because i think the concept sounds amazing it's described as outlander meets the sun is also a star i've never seen outlander or read the books but i do know like the concept for it and i really enjoyed the sun is also a star that's one of my favorite books and this concept just is very inventive it's about this couple who they have been living their love story throughout lifetimes and in different places all over the world and they're destined to meet and fall in love and they have been going through like centuries and now they are trying to finally put a stop to that so once again i think this is going to be really sad but very powerful i'm interested to see like how they got caught in this loop how they're going to get out of it i have a lot of questions and i'm looking forward to reading it to get the answers next is the jasmine project by meredith ireland this story follows a korean-american adoptee and her family is putting on like this dating thing for her essentially so her graduation party is used for this secret jasmine project which is where she is going to be meeting like the most eligible bachelors in her town that her family is setting her up with it kind of reminds me a little bit of 10 blind dates by ashley elston which i really liked and it seems like it's going to be very cute i love a good family and a book and i think this is going to be a fun one next is the city beautiful by aiden polidoros this is set in chicago in 1893 and it follows a main character who is trying to work really hard to bring his family over to america because they are still in romania where he is from and they are living in some pretty harsh conditions so he wants to bring them over to the safety and opportunity of america but then one of his friends becomes the next victim in a long line of jewish boys who have been murdered it seems like the spirit of his friend who is murdered actually ends up taking over him and he only has a few days to keep it from completely taking over so definitely seems like a very interesting concept i believe it deals a lot in jewish folklore which i've never really read anything like that and it's set against the backdrop of the world's fair so i'm definitely really intrigued by this next up is white smoke by tiffany d jackson so like i said there were some books that were on sale at indigo and this one was another one that was on sale and i read allegedly by tiffany d jackson and was so blown away by it that i ended up getting grown by her and then this is her latest release and it is supposed to be a different take on a haunted house story and that's definitely what i'm getting from the synopsis it's kind of the typical and i'm not saying this in a bad way but where it's like a girl she's out running some ghosts from her past but metaphorical ghosts and then she ends up going to this new house and you know the house seems to be hiding some things i feel like this is going to be a great one to read before the end of this month i'm definitely going to try and get to it probably in a reading vlog that you guys will see like after halloween but i think this coming week i'm going to be reading some spooky reads and i think this is going to be a great one to go with i also picked up iron widow by zyran j zhao i'm obsessed with this cover it is beautiful and it's one of the things that drew me to the book but the concept of it sounds really interesting as well it is kind of confusing to try and girls but they like fight those robots so the main character is trying to assassinate the first pilot who was responsible for her sister's death did that make any sense i don't know probably not i'm sorry but it seems like a lot is going on like kind of steampunk-ish also i forgot to mention that they're not piloting just like a regular plane it's like this big transformer thing so like i just feel like i've never really heard of anything like this before and that makes me want to read it next up is the inheritance of arcata divina by zoraida cordova speaking of stunning covers oh my
