Honor 7X - Hands On Review

The Honor 7x: A Smartphone with Cutting-Edge Tech at an Unbeatable Price

Honor is back again with another incredibly good value smartphone that brings you the very best a smartphone tech available now for an incredibly low price. This time, they've got the honor 7x, and we're going to show you why it's really cool. Just look at the front of the honor 7x - this has got one of the big features of 2017 smartphones: full screen display, minimal bezels at the top on the bottom, and a little bit more perhaps than we'd see on an LG P30 or a Galaxy S10+. There's no denying this is a large screen; it's 6 inches, and you can see that my hand almost easily fits around it so it's very holdable. The body is also super thin and Honor always makes a big deal about curving the body nicely, and this is a 3D piece of glass with a 2D piece of glass effect around here. So, the comfort in hand is exceptional.

The rear is covered in this nice soft touch metal, so we're dealing with a metal phone that feels properly premium. You'll see there are two camera lenses, and they're also placed on quite large bumps, but we don't mind because these are great. The dual lens effect is back with a blurred background effect when we take photos of close-up objects. Honor is a sub-brand of Huawei, so they're sharing the same technology they're using for the camera. It's very simple to use, and we'll show you that in a second.

There's also a nicely indented fingerprint sensor on the rear for unlocking the screen, and it's super fast while I'm doing this; it's really exceptionally well done. Android 7.0 is running on the phone, and it uses Koala's EMUI 5.1 over the top. This is a little bit behind the new Mate 10 Pro but what we'd expect to get on the Honor 9A or phones like that. It's much better than always older user interfaces, but as you'll see there's no app tray as standard, and there are quite a few pre-installed apps. But it's way better than it used to be inside this phone is a Kirin 659 processor; so it's not the latest or the fastest, but it's perfectly usable.

This is a mid-range smartphone remember so don't be expecting top-end specs but for the price it's really very high performance. So, what's new with the front camera on the honor 7x? Well, On has done something really fun with it and added in a variety of fun effects for selfies. What better opportunity to demonstrate these than me? Let's take a look at selfie mode before we get to the effects you should know that there is a portrait mode beauty mode, which adds a blurred background when we take selfies, which is really nice. But we're here for the effects so slide in the menu and tap picked, and there they are instant cute effects on the screen.

The point we're trying to make here is that these effects are really fast and really accurate, and you don't need a pre-installed at a third-party app to use them. You can just use them straight off of the phone, be as cute as I am instantly, and take those pictures and share them online. So, we think you'll agree that's a lot of technology stuffed into this very pretty little phone.

How much is it going to cost you? According to Honors website, it says less than 300 pounds. A US release is coming; we're waiting to hear final prices but that’s a bargain for what you get in this smartphone. It's very hard to beat the Honor 7x; it's definitely worth considering if you're in the market for a new phone.
