The OnePlus 7T Pro is great!.. if you wanted the 7 Pro 🤔 (Review!)
The OnePlus 7 Pro and its Successor: A Comparative Analysis
To truly understand this phone, we really need to compare it with its predecessor and with the previous generation. In that sense, it's basically a super-spec bump from the previous version with the latest and greatest processor and fewer ramped configurations. The battery is slightly larger, and there are some well-adjusted color options available. Advantages over the 7 Pro include a high-resolution display and a larger battery, as well as three times telephoto zoom instead of two times. Additionally, the phone features a bezel-less design, which is going to be the deciding factor for many people.
The design of the OnePlus 7 Pro is absolutely gorgeous, with curved and rounded edges, smooth lines, and a pop-up selfie camera that is up there with the best of the best smartphones in terms of design and build quality. This design has been seen before, as it was also present on the phone from earlier this year. A case is pretty much a must considering how slippery and delicate this phone is without one. The curves of the phone may please some people more than others, with some finding the rounded corners to be a little bit too much or distracting in different lighting conditions.
There are some minor exterior changes that distinguish the two phones, including a laser autofocus module that is now located to the left of the camera assembly and a new Hayes blue color instead of last time around. From an outsider's perspective, it may be difficult to tell the difference between the two phones, with the speed still being rapid thanks to its use of top-shelf hardware, the display still sharp and silky thanks to its beautiful 92AMOLED panel, charging that battery is still blazing fast thanks to Warp Charge 30T, and the cameras are still great but not the best in the smartphone.
The OnePlus 7 Pro is hard to get hyped about because it's not brand new and groundbreaking. It's a successor to a phone that was already considered excellent, making it hard to generate excitement around this particular model. The love and attention that the 7 Pro is receiving makes it difficult for people to get hyped about this smartphone.
However, there are some notable usability improvements in the camera and software departments. Starting with the latter, the 7 Pro is launching with OxygenOS 10 based on Android 10, making it one of the first smartphones to come without Row 10 out of the box. The camera hardware hasn't changed much from last time around, but there are a few software improvements to keep it up-to-date and current.
The new macro mode is available by clicking this little button in the top right corner, which is a really awesome feature to have. However, it's not being stored in the most convenient drawer, which can be a bit confusing for users. In our testing, we didn't notice particularly great taking photos with the 7 Pro, pressing the shutter button on the phone and this was widely across all of the different lenses.
It did take a little while to actually actuate the shutter, not necessarily processing the image like we've seen on other high-end phones. This made us miss our shot a few times, and honestly, it was kind of annoying. However, battery life was a pretty big concern with the 7 Pro, and I'm happy to say that in our testing, the 7 Pro fed much better. We were getting a full day of moderate usage, watching a few YouTube videos playing 2048 in my lunch break, using about two-thirds Wi-Fi and one-third LTE.
We were finishing the day with well over 20% battery life, which is better than what many people were getting with the 7 Pro. I'd go to sleep wake up with 15% and charge it right back up to 100% in an hour, making it a significant improvement over its predecessor. If we had to sum up the changes here, the 7 Pro gets marginally faster, has a marginally better camera, has significantly better battery life, and comes in some new colors.
It's worth upgrading to from the 7 Pro absolutely not, but is it worth upgrading to for those who couldn't get it before from different older smartphones? Yes, this is a brilliant smartphone. The reason I'm not more hyped about it is just because we've seen a very similar product from OnePlus earlier this year. The design still wows everyone, and the back is just absolutely gorgeous in that color. The cameras are great, the battery life is great, and the speed is unreal.
It's a really good smartphone, but it's kind of been done before.
