The Moral of the Story: The Importance of Having a Subwoofer in Your Home Theater System

As someone who has invested in high-quality tower speakers, I often get asked if they're necessary for achieving decent bass performance in a home theater system. The answer is simple: no, you don't necessarily need a subwoofer to get good bass out of your towers. However, having a subwoofer is always recommended because it provides those deep, punchy sounds that tower speakers can struggle to replicate.

I recently purchased two subwoofers, and I'm excited to share my experience with you. The new subs are the same model as before, but with some subtle differences on the back, such as different volume knobs. Despite these changes, I expect their performance to be very similar. In fact, one of the most significant improvements I've noticed is in the bass response. Tower speakers can only do so much when it comes to producing low frequencies, but a subwoofer can add an extra layer of depth and realism to your audio.

like a full day here just to do Strasburg stuff cuz this is her happy place after all my mom loves her striberg house but as do why I mean I'm really I'm really glad we bought these two houses technically two houses one property yeah it's a very unique living Arrangement but I love it I do I needed a change in my life and I took that opportunity to make a change okay coffee time then I'll show you guys other things throughout the Vlog I think Papa puff I don't know if the name j puff is retired I think we've all decided on Papa puff what do you say vote right below I'm serious you want sorry I just felt hyper today uh yes I did buy another subwoofer finally the same exact poke audio 12in sub that I have in my living room and as you may or may not know my um AV receiver does indeed support dual subs I've never used dual subs on one of my own setups but my dad has he has dual subs at the Jersey house and it sounds incredible and you guys know me I love bass so the other night I had a couple drinks you know I was drinking my Not Your Mom's Apple Pie might as well finish it off talking to a friend or whatever them and I went on Amazon I was like there's that sub I ordered a while ago might as well order it and it's done I'm actually AC like it's a huge purchase it was it was like $220 or $200 which I don't think is too crazy I only say this for transparency if you guys are interested in buying a sub oh it was $1.99 that's not bad at all for a 12in sub from PK audio pke audio is an excellent brand so anyway I have a second subwoofer arriving tomorrow at least according to Amazon it's coming tomorrow on a Saturday yes I do get USBS packages on Saturdays but never ups and I say it for a reason I don't see USBS delivering a subwoofer it's a little big so perhaps UPS will come here on a Saturday that would be cool to um set it up and demonstrate it for the weekend of Loy Vlog okay back to work today's agenda publish the patons only Vlog which I still not titled I'm going to do that right now and finish my dfu article I never finished it last night I was a little distracted with things but it's practically done I have like one or two more 10.5 in yep it's got the same exact title as my video from yesterday that's no coincidence as I said in the pigeons only Vlog whenever you make a video and you happen to blog like I do blog with a B like textual content it's always always a good idea to publish some kind of post alongside the video because it really helps with your SEO on Google Bing Yahoo and all that stuff uh because well when someone searches for iPad Pro creative apps promotion display or whatever my chances of being listed on page one or page two are now doubled because let's face it Google obviously favors video Google owns YouTube that's no secret um and if you attach a blog post to that video like if you embed or whatever or even link this blog post in the video itself it helps so what I'm trying to say is create content just keep on creating and eventually it will be worth your time I can promise you that believe me I know it's so freaking easy to feel discouraged even I feel discouraged all the time but when I do stuff like this I feel so accomplished really I do like I love owning like a little piece of the internet out there like I I just I just love the idea of calling like that little room over there in the world of Internet mine and I know the internet's not broken down in the rooms it's a metaphor work with me here just create content keep on creating and never stop and by the way if you ever hear like a whirly noise in the background it's the fan I do shut it off when I record my tech reviews and whatever ding see I wonder who that is all right here's an update guys on my setup ignore the MacBook prizzle it makes it look like hold on hold on let me take this off and then I'll show you guys this somewhat final presentation because let's face it with things like this you're never truly done all right here we go here we go tour time get ready get ready okay on the far right is my 10 .5 in iPad Pro in rose gold I absolutely love this tablet I so so glad I bought it the best iPad I have ever used in my life and it's sitting on this a techm stand which does retract so I can put it at different angles but for now I just kind of put it right here to have it on display have it looks sexy right also quick note be sure to follow me on kit kit.com it's kind of like David sings.com but better and it's more automated um so in other words I will be creating a kit specifically with this setup in mind so everything you see here can be purchased via that kit so if you're ever curious about the speakers I'm using or the iPad stand or the iPad itself just get a kit right below and buy it for yourself all right so anyway I'm not going to take up too much of your time because I will be making a dedicated video on this in the future a ju display can't think the exact model right now but you know what it gets the job done I would much rather use my 23in Apple Cinema display but um it uses DVI and the chomecast which is right back there somewhere that little puck yeah right there uses HDMI so basically I would have to figure out a way to split the audio and video source and no don't do it and basically that would require more cables and adapters which I'm not crazy about so for now this works and it kind of Blends in nicely the whole black on wood theme Maui I don't normally let you up here but for now you can stay just don't eat the okay nope you're down you're fine over LAX don't be dramatic okay so anyway monitor very cheap speakers audio quality sucks but it's just something to have for now and plus they look nice I just got them for lights and plus they cost me like $15 got some pens and markers here apple pencil which is a must for any iPad Pro setup even if you're not a creative kind of person please get yourself the apple pencil it's $100 not exactly cheap but you know what that's a normal price for styluses of this nature I say of this nature because this is very very complex this is not like your styluses from back in the day with like your your palm Prix and all that stuff this right here is the real deal for artists I love it and right now next to it we have my little SD and micro SD card reader I use this every single week for the Vlogs little fidget spinner for now just to fill in that space that's technically a cup holder I don't see myself putting coffee in there though because I don't want to stay in the wood and speaking of wood I love this Riser some people say well David this makes it look crowded I disagree because without this I would have nowhere to put this stuff I would kind of put it on the side making it look more crowded I mean yeah it takes up space but in my opinion I think it looks nice and well it gives me more space for things like accessories like that my speakers my 12.9 in iPad Pro which is sitting under here boom I don't use it that often but it's there as well as a Smart Keyboard Magic Mouse which is a spare Magic Mouse I look Maui's back fake plant I love this thing I do apple pencil charger which is plugged in directly to this it's aan or tessen I don't know how to say that a little powerhub this is really really neat so yesterday when I was editing The Paton only Vlog over here I actually had my MacBook Pro charging I actually had it plugged in to that powerhub instead of having to Route the audio cable down here to my UPS so yeah definitely quite useful cost me like what $15 $20 easily worth it and come on you can never have too many USB ports so these are my speakers right here and this is the apple pencil charger boom love it and the desk itself is also from Amazon so that will be parts of the kit wait down here I can't forget look at that cable management is that not nice so hold on let me go under here try to get some good video so this black thing you see right here is a cable Raceway using adhesive it's sitting against the desk and you can see the cables up there a little bit they're basically just sitting in there so it's kind of like a canal for cables if that makes sense and you can probably see some of them down there if you look carefully but the fact of the matter is guys you really can't see them from here and that's a big deal cable management is not easy especially with a setup like this look I have so many cables and I'm using the same kind of cable Raceway but as you can see the cables are overflowing because I have hard drives and speakers in my Mac Pro and the Monitor and my Hub like there's a lot more going on here than over here but I like that this is more complex this is more simple and this will be very complex eventually I'll have multiple consoles hooked up hence the Xbox One Asus display and all that stuff and eventually a gaming PC later this summer or early this fall depends on money we'll see and finally you may have noticed I did indeed move the book Arc MacBook display in this case it's holding a MacBook Pro because well I think it was just looking a little too crowded over here so why not put it over here and yes I stole have a lot of munch packs and one up boxes to get through so there you have it a quick update on my iPad Pro setup not going to lie I'm very proud of that I haven't really used it too much yet just because I've been busy with other things but I'm going to look into tutorials for lettering on the iPad Pro I think that's a great start uh to learn in the apple pencil and kind of like mastering it over time because I found this great guy I forget his name but he gives like these excellent um stepbystep tutorials and how to create cool like letter graphics and you know vectors and all that stuff so I'm looking forward to that and don't forget because I have the Chromecast I can cast those videos to this monitor so I can work right here on my iPad Pro while looking up at the uh walkthrough video see I thought everything through and eventually eventually at some point I need to hang up some art here not like techie or video game stuff I'm talking like creative things okay so basically while I'm sitting here I want to look up and see art that inspires me and eventually I'll find some art but I'm in no rush commence music what resume music both a little loud I'mma finally but check this out for the first time ever I got mozzarella sticks not for the first time ever love those I actually enjoy rudder's mozzarella sticks more than than sheets but with that said cheet sticks aren't bad at all these just I don't know the grease or the juice or whatever has a very nice taste and this for the first time ever I got a steak and cheese Stromboli it's a rather small Stromboli compared to an actual pizza shop but it should be good oh my God this is going to be messy AF let me try to show you guys oh doggy damn and I got aide of marinara sauce but let me just try it like this hot not bad especially when you factor in the marinara sauce all right next time I'll try pepperoni base base base moist this show is so good something serious happened and this dude he's that's good tomorrow's a whole other day it's mostly going to be house related stuff but it's footage regardless God I really do feel bloated that's what soda does to you all the carbonation I feel like a pregnant woman shout out to all the pregnant people out there I don't know how you do it but props child Earth it it just it just cannot be easy you're essentially pushing a human being out of yourself it's just incredible if you think about it I just went from talking about my Vlogs to my bloated stomach to pregnancy and that's what the weekend Vlogs are all about all right I've been trying to get those lights set up on the iho M for some reason I'm having troubles I'll figure it out and then I'll get these done the lights are already back there but I just never set them up on the IH home this little thing that way I can automate them on my iPhone and iPad but check this out I finally opened up my other LED kit and I put him over here on my gaming setup dude that looks so freaking awesome it's kind of a hack job but hey if it's out of sight out of mind cuz right there on the corners is really hard these aren't really meant to uh Bend at sharp angles but I think I did a good job and just like these over here I will be buying an IH home that way I can automate these lights and also these are automated these lights come on every night at 8:00 and off every morning at 3:00 although I think I'm going to change that because I just changed my Cube to turn on at 9: since it obviously gets darker in the summer uh you know later into the night so this comes on at 9 off at 3 and then this will come on at 9 and off at 3 very nice okay so I thought about doing LEDs on all of the desks but that might be Overkill this is more of like a classy side of the room where I get my work done and this is more of the fun side of the room where I get my gaming done and please for the love of God ignore those cables this setup is pretty much in the alpha stage not even beta this is like straight up Alpha right here so obviously I have a very very very long way to go I just want to get the LED set up and I do this power strip as you can see I'm going for a more Dark theme over here So eventually I'll get another one of those cable boxes like that one over there but in Black hopefully in black and there's Maui I know Maui all these LEDs isn't it great so there you go another step in the right direction that looks pretty cool despite the horrible Cable Management it's a great start so I know wow my forehead actually looks greasy it's so hot out maybe not the light is really bright so I know I'm going to have at least a few of you asking what led kit I'm using in here and in there well good news it's the same exact kit I bought like three of them in in one night um so I will link that exact kit right below and I'll link the little iHome thing right below that way you can be just like me and automate your lighting setup guys I will say it's really nice when this turns on every night at 9:00 I don't know it's just it's just a cool feeling so between the cube the lights up there lights over there and now lights over here I'm looking to fully duck out this house and eventually I'll get some LED bulbs for up there and some daylight bulbs in here cuz I'm tired of that yellow light I am making some good progress and plus you guys got to keep in mind once I have my gaming PC like Corner fully set up as well as the consoles it's going to look even better right now I think it looks really neat not you thanks my God that was so much work I had to reroot or reroute whatever you want to say reroute some cables that way I could actually fit the plug because it's biger than your traditional plug and your adapter whatever and I had to make sure does an outlet free for tomorrow's subwoofer setup going over there then it'll be plugged in somewhere back there yes there is a free outlet and check it out I finally have it set up the cube is fine there psw505 now keep in mind I already owned this subwoofer the same exact sub is right there but the thing is oh God that would have hurt you do not want to mix your subs okay so maybe you can if you want but I don't recommend it especially for someone like me with self-proclaimed OCD my Subs need the match okay here we go guys not going to take up too much of your time cuz I've done this before it I'm not going to say it sounds dramatically different or better but it definitely does sound better it sound it sounds more balanced now the thing with bass is the frequency is typically so low that you the viewer are not usually supposed to know where it's coming from and that's what's so great about bass and I'm no audio file this it's just stuff I've learned over the years but there's something to say about adding two subs now I'm going to give you a demo it's going to dist the mic so what you hear on video is nothing um like what you'd hear in person but there is a difference however let me say this real quick I'm surprised by how good no how no and how amazing these Tower speakers sound with both subs turned off yes I actually disabled both subwoofers to test the base on just these speakers and they sound incredible like my house still had that rumbling feel now of course using two subwoofers is better than um using just two speakers Two Towers but I got to say these poke audio speakers are not bad at all and I have an unboxing of those I'm not going to link it right below cuz I feel like I'm linking too much but if you want to see the unboxing just go to my channel search poke audio p o k so now I have two poke audio Towers two poke audio subs one poke audio center um back here are still my enio um reare channels which which I'll eventually replace I got these years ago years ago but here we go demo time um hopefully I won't get hit with copyright actually there's got to be something I can find on Apple music that won't hit with copyright I don't know let me see let me see Yi's woolly world this isn't exactly a good demo but I don't think I'll get hit with copyright with this what's the track with a lot of Base it's not Castle course is it I think it is yeah all right listen now oh my God yes dude holy look at this not bad all right there's only so much of a demo I can give you because this microphone does not handle loud noises very well it's peeking right now but you guys got to take my word for it but also keep in mind the moral of this story is if you have really good Tower speakers like I do these are like mid-range then you don't necessarily need a sub for to get decent base performance out of your home theater experience now with that said I don't see any reason why you should never use a subwoofer you should always always always have a sub because you get those deep deep punches that you can't get out of tower speakers yeah you can to a certain extent but just buy a subwoofer trust me and if you can buy two subwoofers and also don't forget that subwoofer is linked right below and interestingly enough they're the exact same model but they made changes on the back like the volume knobs look a little different but I love bass so the other night I had a couple drinks you know I was drinking my Not Your Mom's Apple Pie might as well finish it off talking to a friend or whatever them and I went on Amazon I was like there's that sub I ordered a while ago might as well order it and it's done I'm actually AC like it's a huge purchase it was it was like $220 or $200 which I don't think is too crazy I only say this for transparency if you guys are interested in buying a sub oh it was $1.99 that's not bad at all for a 12in sub from PK audio pke audio is an excellent brand so anyway I have a second subwoofer arriving tomorrow at least according to Amazon it's coming tomorrow on a Saturday yes I do get USBS packages on Saturdays but never ups and I say it for a reason I don't see USBS delivering a subwoofer it's a little big so perhaps UPS will come here on a Saturday that would be cool to um set it up and demonstrate it for the weekend of Loy Vlog okay back to work today's agenda publish the because well when someone searches for iPad Pro creative apps promotion display or whatever my chances of being listed on page one or page two are now doubled because let's face it Google obviously favors video Google owns YouTube that's no secret um and if you attach a blog post to that video like if you embed or whatever or even link this blog post in the video itself it helps so what I'm trying to say is create content just keep on creating and eventually it will be worth your time I can promise you that believe me I know it's so freaking easy to feel discouraged even I feel glad I bought it the best iPad I have ever used in my life and it's sitting on this a techm stand which does retract so I can put it at different angles but for now I just kind of put it right here to have it on display have it looks sexy right also quick note be sure to follow me on kit kit.com it's kind of like David sings.com but better and it's more automated um so in other words I will be creating a kit specifically with this setup in mind so everything you see here can be purchased via that kit so if you're ever curious about the speakers I'm using or the iPad stand or the iPad itself can't think the exact model right now but you know what it gets the job done I would much rather use my 23in Apple Cinema display but um it uses DVI and the chomecast which is right back there somewhere that little puck yeah right there uses HDMI so basically I would have to figure out a way to split the audio and video source and no don't do it and basically that would require more cables and adapters which I'm not crazy about so for now this works and it kind of Blends in nicely the whole black on wood theme Maui I don't normally let you up here but for now you can stay just don't eat the okay nope you're down you're fine over LAX don't be dramatic okay so anyway monitor very cheap speakers audio quality sucks but it's just something to have for now and plus they look nice I just got them for lights and plus they cost me like $15 got some pens and markers here apple pencil which is a must for any iPad Pro setup even if you're not a creative kind of person please get yourself the apple pencil it's $100 not exactly cheap but you know what that's a normal price for styluses of this nature I say of this nature because this is very very complex this is not like your styluses from back in the day with like your your palm Prix and all that stuff this right here is the real deal for artists I love it and right now next to it we have my little SD and micro SD card reader I use this every single week for the Vlogs little fidget spinner for now just to fill in that space that's technically a cup holder I don't see myself putting coffee in there though because I don't want to stay in the wood and speaking of wood I love this Riser some people say well David this makes it look crowded I disagree because without this I would have nowhere to put this stuff I would kind of put it on the side making it look more crowded I mean yeah it takes up space but in my opinion I think it looks nice and well it gives me more space for things like accessories like that my speakers my 12.9 in iPad Pro which is sitting under here boom I don't use it that often but it's there as well as a Smart Keyboard Magic Mouse which is a spare Magic Mouse I look Maui's back fake plant I love this thing I do apple pencil charger which is plugged in directly to this it's aan or tessen I don't know how to say that a little powerhub this is really really neat so yesterday when I was editing The Paton only Vlog over here I actually had my MacBook Pro charging I actually had it plugged in to that powerhub instead of having to Route the audio cable down here to my UPS so yeah definitely quite useful cost me like what $15 $20 easily worth it and come on you can never have too many USB ports so these are my speakers right here and this is the apple pencil charger boom love it and the desk itself is also from Amazon so that will be parts of the kit wait down here I can't forget look at that cable management is that not nice so hold on let me go under here try to get some good video so this black thing you see right here is a cable Raceway using adhesive it's sitting against the desk and you can see the cables up there a little bit they're basically just sitting in there so it's kind of like a canal for cables if that makes sense and you can probably see some of them down there if you look carefully but the fact of the matter is guys you really can't see them from here and that's a big deal cable management is not easy especially with a setup like this look I have so many cables and I'm using the same kind of cable Raceway but as you can see the cables are overflowing because I have hard drives and speakers in my Mac Pro and the Monitor and my Hub like there's a lot more going on here than over here but I like that this is more complex this is more simple and this will be very complex eventually I'll have multiple consoles hooked up hence the Xbox One Asus display and all that stuff and eventually a gaming PC later this summer or early this fall depends on money we'll see and finally you may have noticed I did indeed move the book Arc MacBook display in this case it's holding a MacBook Pro because well I think it was just looking a little too crowded over here so why not put it over here and yes I stole have a lot of munch packs and one up boxes to get through so there you have it a quick update on my iPad Pro setup not going to lie I'm very proud of that I haven't really used it too much yet just because I've been busy with other things but I'm going to look into tutorials for lettering on the iPad Pro I think that's a great start uh to learn in the apple pencil and kind of like mastering it over time because I found this great guy I forget his name but he gives like these excellent um stepbystep tutorials and how to create cool like letter graphics and you know vectors and all that stuff so I'm looking forward to that and don't forget because I have the Chromecast I can cast those videos to this monitor so I can work right here footage on a Friday so that's good tomorrow's a whole other day it's mostly going to be house related stuff but it's footage regardless God I really do feel bloated that's what soda does to you all pushing a human being out of yourself it's just incredible if you think about it I just went from talking about my Vlogs to my bloated stomach to pregnancy and that's what the weekend Vlogs are all about all right I've been trying to get those lights set up on the iho M for some reason I'm having troubles I'll figure it out and then I'll get these done the lights are already back there but I just never set them up on the IH home this little thing that way I can automate them on my iPhone and iPad but check this out I finally opened up my other LED kit and I put him over here on my gaming setup dude that looks so freaking awesome it's kind of a hack job but hey if it's out of sight out of mind cuz right there on the corners is really hard these aren't really meant to uh Bend at sharp angles but I think I did a good job and just like these over here I will be buying an IH home that way I can automate these lights and also these are automated these lights come on every night at 8:00 and off every morning at 3:00 although I think I'm going to change that because I just changed my Cube to turn on at 9: since it obviously gets darker in the summer uh you know later into the night so this comes on at 9 off at 3 and then this will come on at 9 and off at 3 very nice okay so I thought about doing LEDs on all of the desks but that might be Overkill this is more of like a classy side of the room where I get my work done and this is more of the fun side of the room where I get my gaming done and please for the love of God ignore those cables this setup is pretty much in the alpha stage not even beta this is like straight up Alpha right here so obviously I have a very very very long way to go I just want to get the LED set up and I do this power strip as you can see I'm going for a more Dark theme over here So eventually I'll get another one of those cable boxes like that one over there but in Black hopefully in black and there's Maui I know Maui all these LEDs isn't it great so there you go another step in the right direction that looks pretty cool despite the horrible Cable Management it's a great start so I know wow my forehead actually looks greasy it's so hot out maybe not the light is really bright so I know I'm going to have at least a few of you asking what led kit I'm using in here and in there well good news it's the same exact kit I bought like three of them in in one night um so I will link that exact kit right below and I'll link the little iHome thing right below that way you can be just like me and automate your lighting setup guys I will say it's really nice when this turns on every night at 9:00 I don't know it's just it's just a cool feeling so between the cube the lights up there lights over there and now lights over here I'm looking to fully duck out this house and eventually I'll get some LED bulbs for up there and some daylight bulbs in here cuz I'm tired of that yellow light I am making some good progress and plus you guys got to keep in mind once I have my gaming PC like Corner fully set up as well as the consoles it's going to look even better right now I think it looks really neat not you thanks my God that was so much work I had to reroot or reroute whatever you want to say reroute some cables that way I could actually fit the plug because it's biger than your traditional plug and your adapter whatever and I had to mix your subs okay so maybe you can if you want but I don't recommend it especially for someone like me with self-proclaimed OCD my Subs need the match okay here we go guys not going to take up too I got it working I got it working I'm not going to say it sounds dramatically different or better but it definitely does sound better it sound it sounds more balanced now the thing with bass is the frequency is typically so low that you the viewer are not usually supposed to know where it's coming from and that's what's so great about bass and I'm no audio file this it's just stuff I've learned over the years but there's something to say about adding two subs now I'm going to give you a demo it's going to dist the mic so what you hear on video is nothing um like what you'd hear in person but there is a difference however let me say this real quick I'm surprised by how good no how no and how amazing these Tower speakers sound with both subs turned off yes I actually disabled both subwoofers to test the base on just these speakers and they sound incredible like my house still had that rumbling feel now of course using two subwoofers is better than um using just two speakers Two Towers but I got to say these poke audio speakers are not bad at all and I have an unboxing of those I'm not going to link it right below cuz I feel like I'm linking too much but if you want to see the unboxing just go to my channel search poke audio p o k so now I have two poke audio Towers two poke audio subs one poke audio center um back here are still my enio um reare channels which which I'll eventually replace I got these years ago years ago but here we go demo time um hopefully I won't get hit with copyright actually there's got to be something I can find on Apple music that won't hit with copyright I don't know let me see let me see Yi's woolly world this isn't exactly a good demo but I don't think I'll get hit with copyright with this what's the track with a lot of Base it's not Castle course is it I think it is yeah all right listen now oh my God yes dude holy look at this not bad all right there's only so much of a demo I can give you because this microphone does not handle loud noises very well it's peeking right now but you guys got to take my word for it but also keep in mind the moral of this story is if you have really good Tower speakers like I do these are like mid-range then you don't necessarily need a sub for to get decent base performance out of your home theater experience now with that said I don't see any reason why you should never use a subwoofer you should always always always have a sub because you get those deep deep punches that you can't get out of tower speakers yeah you can to a certain extent but just buy a subwoofer trust me and if you can buy two subwoofers and also don't forget that subwoofer is linked right below and interestingly enough they're the exact same model but they made changes on the back like the volume
