How to use AR in iOS

The Introduction to AR on iOS 11

If you recently installed iOS 11, you might have heard about AR (Augmented Reality) being enabled through the App Store by Apple. You can download tons of applications that enable this new feature to be used on your iOS device. One of the ways to access AR is by going to the categories section in the App Store, where you'll see a list of apps just keeps growing within every hour. It's worth noting that to use AR on your iOS device, you need an iPhone 6s or newer.

AR with Sky Guide

One of the first applications I wanted to share with you guys is Sky Guide. This application allows you to point towards the sky depending on your location, and you'll be able to see the stars, tap onto some of the stars, get some information, as well as see some of the constellations. All this happens in real-time, and you can see the lighting in the background for the city. When I pan my iPhone across the sky, you won't see the same thing I see because this is using AR, and it's really telling me exactly what's around me, including the constellations in the sky and information about everything surrounding me.

Sky Guide is a really cool application that I highly recommend you check out. It uses the built-in camera and allows for a full experience with AR. When I move my phone around, it detects everything that's surrounded by it, so I can give you that full experience. So, let's go ahead and begin using Sky Guide.

Using Sky Guide

When using Sky Guide, I want to show you how it works and get the most out of it on your iPhone running iOS 11. To start, I'll point my iPhone towards the sky, and depending on my location, I'll be able to see the stars, tap onto some of them, get information about them, as well as see some of the constellations in real-time. As you can see, this is a really cool application that's perfect for stargazing or learning more about the night sky.

Using Sky Guide, I want to show you how it works and how you can use it on your iPhone running iOS 11. When I move my phone around, it detects everything that's surrounded by it, so I can get a full experience with AR. This means that I can navigate through the surroundings and enjoy the application in all its glory.

Co-op Stack Game

Another standard game in the App Store that offers AR capabilities is Co-op Stack. I have a yellow mat in the background because white floors or white backgrounds are not easy to pick up with an AR camera. The app meets the detects some sort of surface, so when I move my phone around to detect everything that's surrounded by it, I can give you that full experience with AR.

When we start playing Co-op Stack, our goal is to stack these blocks on top of each other without having the edges fall off. As you can see, this keeps growing and growing, and it gives us an idea of how this game works right there. When I move my phone around, you'll see that the building or the stack stays in place, so we don't have to worry about anything moving around. This is really cool stuff, and I think you guys are gonna enjoy this game if you download it right now.

Tape Measure Application

Another application that offers AR capabilities is Tape Measure. As its name suggests, Tape Measure allows us to measure the distance between one point or another. To start using it, we need to move our phone around several times until it detects the surroundings. Once it does, we can start using the tape measure and get an accurate reading.

When I put the tape measure in a certain position, I should get a foot of measurement, right? And that's exactly what happens! It measures properly the distance so there's just so many applications for AR.
