**6 Tips to Keep Your Viewers Engaged on YouTube**
As a content creator, keeping your viewers engaged is crucial for success on YouTube. In this article, we'll explore six tips to help you keep your audience interested and coming back for more.
One way to break the flow of your video is by adding visual elements, such as sketches or B-roll footage, every 10 seconds. This helps prevent boredom and keeps your viewers focused. Another approach is to make sure there's never a long stretch without some kind of visual stimulus, whether it's text on the screen or footage related to what you're talking about.
However, not everyone can afford to cut out the boring parts of their video. To keep your information flowing smoothly, consider cutting out unnecessary sections and focusing on delivering valuable content in short, manageable chunks.
When writing a script for your YouTube video, it's essential to have a clear structure that keeps your viewers engaged. You can learn more about this in my upcoming tutorial on scriptwriting for YouTube videos.
To make the most of your YouTube presence, consider using TubeBuddy, a powerful plugin that offers a range of features to help you grow your channel. The keyword explorer is one of its free features, and it's incredibly useful for finding phrases with high search volume and low competition.
TubeBuddy also offers bulk find and replace tools, which can save you a significant amount of time when updating multiple video descriptions at once. Additionally, its A/B testing feature allows you to test two different thumbnails against each other and see which one performs better.
Finally, consider ditching the traditional playlist format in favor of something more innovative. By linking your videos together in a way that takes advantage of YouTube's algorithm, you can increase your views and engagement significantly. I'll be releasing a separate video on this topic soon, so stay tuned for more information.
In conclusion, keeping your viewers engaged is crucial for success on YouTube. By incorporating visual elements, cutting out boring parts, using TubeBuddy to optimize your videos, and experimenting with innovative playlist formats, you can take your channel to the next level and grow your audience over time.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- I'm ranking on the first page on YouTubefor almost all of mystreaming-related videos, and this is because I'musing a number of strategiesthat're really powerfulwhen used together. If you're serious aboutgrowing your gaming channel, then you have to know these strategiesto beat your competition.(chill music)Welcome to the YouTubeFor Gamers playlist, where you will find allthe information you needto build a successfulgaming YouTube channel. If you're not inside of the playlist, then go do it right now.I'm Chris, I wanna learn how to YouTube.I have good and bad news for you.The bad news is that thereare 5 million other peopletrying to do the exact same thing. The good news is that almost all of themhave no clue what they're doing,so you are going to blowthem out of the park. It's true, man, I only need onevideo and (mouths explosion)my channel with just blowup, millions of views,I can tell you.We are going to look intowhat type of content you can grow with, understanding the YouTubealgorithm so you can rank higher, and optimizing yourchannel for faster growth.Let's get into it.The first tip is to grow yourchannel with helpful content. If there is anything youshould be taking awayfrom the YouTube For Gamersplaylist, it's this advice.Growing a gaming channelon YouTube with guidesis much easier thangrowing it with montages, gaming clips, et cetera.People just won't watch yourhighlights or playthroughsunless they know you, oryou have godly mechanics. For that reason, youshould be bringing them inwith helpful content, and then once they know whoyou are and they like you, then they will start watchingsome of your entertainment contentor visit your stream, et cetera. On top of that, there is much less educational contentbeing published on YouTubecompared to the pureentertainment gaming content, which makes it easier to rank in searchwith gaming tutorials. Now, maybe you're discouraged by hearingthat you will not grow with playthroughsor things like that, but know that you can absolutelymake that type of content. You just need to weave ineducational content too.If you have no clue how to startwith the production of asuccessful gaming tutorial, like a champion guidefor League of Legendsor something like that, then you can watch my guideon creating gaming tutorials for YouTube, when it's finished. The second tip is that youshould focus your channelaround one subject. And this is very important. When people stumbleupon one of your videosand they like it a lot, they will probably visit yourchannel before subscribing. When they do, and theycheck out your video page, you have to make surethat they will like what they are seeing. If your video subjectsare all over the place, from gaming to hiking tocompilations of popular streamers, people are not going tobe intrigued to subscribe. They like to subscribe to a channelthat gives them a lot of in-depthand high-qualityinformation or entertainmentwithin a certain niche. For example, if you have a YouTube channelthat focuses only on the Leagueof Legends champ Katarina, then people who are intothat type of contentwill likely subscribe to see more of that.On top of that, it's alsobeneficial for algorithm purposes.Having subscribers has lessof an impact than it used to.YouTube recommends videos to peoplebecause they are going to like that video, and not because they aresubscribed to your channel. When all of your videosare gaming related, all your subscribers will be gamers,so if you then upload a video about hikingor something like that, then the majority of your subscriberswill not see that videoon their YouTube feed, even though they are subscribed to you, because hiking just isn'tone of their interests. So focus your channel around one subject, because it's almost impossibleto be too niched down. There's an audience for everything, and the more narrow your subject is,the bigger of a chanceyou have of getting views.Let's go for it, League montages,it's where the money's at.The third tip is my favoritepiece of YouTube advice. It's not about bringing inthe big views at the start. It's about preparing your channelfor that one opportunity that's coming. You shouldn't constantly betrying to pump out videosin the hope to get a viral video. You should be making high-qualityand high-converting content,so that once you get some attention, you can convert a bigportion of those peopleto subscribers. And this is a really important tip,so really think about it,because it's the biggestmistake I see people making.I see a lot of them tryingto push out as much contentas they can, and theirreasoning behind thatis that pushing out morecontent gives them more chanceto get that one viral videothat will magically blow up their channel.I only need one viral video, man, I swear,(mouths explosion) mychannel will just blow up.It's only for one video, give me one.I mean, that couldn't be more wrong. Some channels are growing insanely fastwith only two videos a month, because those videos areof an insane quality.Of course these are exceptionsand I'm not advisingyou to do that yourself, but think about howmany channels there arewith hundreds of videos thateach have 50 or less views. They all look like this.Hey, it's Jelle here.Being cool.Figure I would do another video.Imagine a channel that has300 videos like this one.Let's say a few of themhappen to be really funny, and you come across oneof those funny videos. You like the video, soyou check out the channel, and boom, there you stumbleupon a wall of videos, two for each day, withmediocre thumbnails, videos that are not edited, not scripted, and really not that good. You're just going to get out of there. No matter how many videosthis person is going to make, that channel is not going to grow, even if he gets one or two viral videos, because the channel is just not goodat efficiently convertingviewers into subscribers. It is much better to make oneor two high-quality videoseach week, because withthe big amount of contentthat's being uploaded to YouTube, you really need ahigh-quality piece of contentto stand out. There's just too many peoplewho are casually trying to make it.And with high-quality,I do not mean video qualityor insane editing skills. It's about the added value of your video. Will your video make someoneleave with more information,or with a better feelingthan if that person would'vewatched a video below yourson the list?If the answer is yes, thenyou're off to a good start. The fifth tip is prioritizinglighting over a new camera. And before talking aboutlights, let me say this.I know that it's easy for me to saythat gear isn't important, while I'm filming myselfwith an expensive cameraand a good microphone. But I also could get a pretty good qualitywith a much cheaper setup, like a two-year-oldsmartphone and a lavalier mic.In fact, I'll show you.So right now I'm filmingmyself with my OnePlus 5,and a Rode lavalier mic. It's kind of a premiumone, it's 50 or 60 bucks, but there are a lot of cheaper options. You can get one of thesemics for like 20 or 30 bucks. So your camera or audiogear is really no excuseto not start making videos. However, I couldn't replicatethis kind of qualitywithout my two softboxes. The good news is that lightsaren't that expensive. If you're serious about your channeland you're filming yourself,or you're a streamer, then try to save up forsome cheap softboxes.I will put a link in the descriptionto the cheapest one I can find on Amazon.I have two of them, and they improve yourvideo quality by a lot.An alternative is filmingin front of a windowso daylight is shining onyou, instead of lights, but I like to film in an environmentwhere I can control the lights.I'm not sitting in daylight, man, that's for normies.Tip number five is super important, and it's making your videoswith audience retention in mind. It's crucial that youkeep people's attentionfor as long as you can, because the longer they watch, the higher your video will rank. There are a few ways to do that, and combining them all results in a videothat gives people thefeeling they can't leave.Of course you've heard everywherethat you do need to get people's attentionin the first seven seconds of your video, because they will click away if you don't,so I'm not going to talkabout that some more, because I have someother interesting tips. The first way to keeppeople watching your videois by giving them the feelingthat they are going to missout on important informationif they leave. An example of this iswhat I said in the intro. If you're serious aboutgrowing your gaming channel, then you have to know these strategiesto beat your competition.Wait so, if I don't watch thevideo, then someone else will, and then he will outrank me?Hell yeah. So, keep watching.Wha?Another great way to keeppeople's attention for a long timeis by breaking the pattern.People have a short attention spanand by breaking thenormal flow of the video, you can reset their attention span.An example of that is what I just did,by adding the little sketch,I break the flow of the video, and people can focusfor longer afterwards.Another way to make surepeople do not get boredby looking at the same thing for too long,is making sure there isnever more than 10 secondswithout a visual impulse, that can be somethinglike text on the screen,or B-roll of what you're talking about. The last way for keeping aviewer's attention is obvious, but not everyone is doing it.Make sure you cut out the bad, boring, and repetitive parts of your video. You want to keep theinformation coming to people. It doesn't matter if you makea cut every two sentences. It's better to do thatthan to think for two orthree seconds straightabout what you're going to say next.Keep the information coming. Now you're just exaggerating, man. That shit takes too much time.Just hit record, film a video, press stop, there you go.Easy views. If you want to get a full explanationon how to write scripts thatkeep the viewers' attentionand convert them into subscribersby having a certain structure, you can watch my tutorialon script writingin the YouTube For Gamersplaylist when it's finished. The sixth tip is to use TubeBuddy.I put a link in the descriptionso you can check it out, because I'm using it myselfand I really can't imaginemy channel without it.It's insane how many helpful thingsthis plugin can do for you.The keyword explorer isone of the free features, and that alone makes theplugin worth downloading. It helps you to get more views, because you can find phrasesthat are good to targetbased on the search volumeand the competition forthat certain phrase. It also shows youmilestones to work towards, and I must say thatthis really motivates meto keep pushing to the next one. There are two paid features of the app,and they are insanelyuseful, even indispensable,as your channel grows bigger. The Bulk Find and Replace toolis one that will save youa lot of time and effort.Let's say you have affiliatelinks in every video, and you want to replace them all at once. You can tell TubeBuddy what text to findin all your video descriptions, and then give a piece oftext to replace it with. Then TubeBuddy willshow you all the videosthat have the text in their description, and then you can just selectin which videos you wantto replace the text, and boom, all your videodescriptions are being updatedall at once. The second helpful premiumfeature is thumbnail A/B testing, and it's much more powerfulthan you would expect. We all know how importantclick-through rate is these days, and this function letsyou test two thumbnailsagainst each other. After a set period of time, usually one or two weeks,TubeBuddy will then show youstatistics of both thumbnails, and you can choose thebest-performing one. This may sound likesomething that's kind of nicebut not necessary, butthink about it like this.Let's say you have a videothat gets 500 views each day.If that video has a 4% click-through rate, and by using the A/B test of TubeBuddy, you find a thumbnail thathas a 5% click-through rate, that means that your 500 views a daybecomes 625 views a day.I mean that's huge, that's morethan 40k views a year extrafor one video, just by finding a thumbnailthat has a 1% click-through rate extra. These are just a few ofthe features of TubeBuddy, and I'm going to let youexplore the other ones yourself.I have a bonus tip, andit's to stop using playlistslike everyone else is using them.A playlist is very powerful on its own,but you can take it onelevel further than that.Everyone is usingplaylists just as a folderto put similar videosin, but just like I didwith my Streamlabs OBSMaster Course playlist, you need to link them all together.I want to go in-depth onhow to do this effectively, but this video is alreadygoing to be way too long,so I will make a separate videothat shows you how to getmore than double the viewswith playlists.I know it sounds likeclickbait, but believe me,it really worked for me,so I believe that it can work for you too.And if you're into gamingand you want to grow youronline presence with streaming,YouTube, social media, et cetera, then make sure you clickthe subscribe buttonto get notified of my nextvideo, and turn on the bell.It really helps.I'm Jelle from The Video Nerd. Thanks for watching, andI will see you next time.Have a good day.
