Library Sale Book Haul! _ 2018 _ Kendra Winchester

**A Bookshelf Discoveries**

Your door well tea, I feel like we read excerpts of this yes, we did but I've never read all of it. We just read part of it and for some sort of sign reading or something basically I'm familiar with you know your door well tea and this piece of writing. But I have found in here um little postcard is Eudora Welty there's other random things in this book there's like a newspaper clipping and different things so I think it's always cool when people leave things in books most the time we leave little things in books and seeing like kind of like history inside the book. So I originally picked this up because I thought it was a different book but it's still fine because who does not love Julia Child.

One thing you may not know about me is I love food shows I love the Food Network if I had pick one television station to watch for the rest of ever it would be probably something like Food Network because I love food shows even though I have a ton of food allergies and can every the food I'm watching. I love it and one of the things I love is Julia Child so I wanted to read my life in France and I never have so I picked this up thinking that's what it was but then I got home and I realized this is the letters between her and Avis de voto. So that's fine too letters are cool this is like the food and friendship the making of a masterpiece and they did the obviously mastering the Art of French Cooking right.

**Julia Child**

It's called "I mean I've seen Julia and Julia right" I own it meryl streep she's great one of the best gems was when I was coming back through the shelves because there was this kid that had snuck in through and we was tall and he was very fast going through the shelves and I think he had to be in college. And he got this box and he got an adichie he got a why when I used snow child and Midnight's Children buy someone rescue all of which I was looking for but I went back through and I found Lauren Crofts debut novel the monsters of Templeton she wrote Faison Furies and I owned all of her books in original hardback from all their different publishers I didn't realize he had so many different ones.

And this is the only one I was missing and I found it and I'm so glad I found it there's actually a map in there and everything she has a new short story collection coming out called Florida so I want to catch up with her books but she just is an amazing writer I love her so I will definitely be reading this.

**Patricia Highsmith**

The sum of my five five star prediction books are going to be learned being a bookish podcasters I listen to a lot of bookish podcasts and one of them is the readers and they were reading a Patricia Highsmith book last summer I think and I've never read her but then I found this book out from Norton who happens to be one of my favorite publishers and that is nothing that meets the eye the uncollected stories of Patricia Highsmith so I was like yes sign me up.

I feel like this is the book that I knew the least about all of the other books that I've picked up aside from the read and Julia Child book which I was trying to find another one of this is more of like I just saw on the shelf and I thought it looked interesting kind of by but I am familiar with her obviously I've seen what they call it the Carol I think is what the salt is called right I've never read it but I did see the movie so I'm very much looking forward to reading some Richard Highsmith for the very first time.

**RBG**

I also need to read strangers on train last book is a book I can't believe I found at the library sale and it was the only one I paid three dollars for but it was totally worth it and that is the notorious RBG the life and times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and this is a beautiful glossy photo edition just about her life and I didn't review this recently for the newsletter I think.

And she really enjoyed it because it's basically just a brief overview of the second female Supreme Court justice here in America and I'm just really I'm just thrilled I can't believe I found this it's really exciting the book sale always has surprises and delightful things in it.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey I'm gonna do Winchester welcome back to my channel and today we are going to be doing a library sale haul so every six months my library is a used book sale and bookstores donate their overstock copies and different things to the library sale so there's actually just used books not X library books at the sale so I I love this book sale it is my favorite book sale and all of the books usually range from one to three dollars I only spent three dollars on one book all the rest were either one or two dollars I think that's magnificent I think it's just so wonderful to have this library sale so anyway it's for a good cause also my birthday is usually around one of them which was the case this time so I was like well just go go and get what you want Kendra happy birthday so yeah so anyway I'm gonna show you the books I'm gonna start with books that I have read and then we'll go to books that I haven't read yet so the first book that I have is love that dog by Chloe Creech I do have a signed copy of this but it's the Scholastic like library hard kind of copy um this is a different edition so I may end up giving this to my nephew at some point but I'm not sure yet we'll see what happens oh this is a novel told in verse about the boy and he's in his English class and his teachers encouraging him to write poems so the entire book is from his first-person perspective and he's writing about his dog that he loves and this is a book that we read and writing for children class and we spent an entire class period going around and reading it and all of us were about in tears by the end but it was a beautiful book it is not a used book sale without me finding an edition of Virginia Woolf that I do not own and this is Virginia wolves to the White House I now own my three favorite Virginia Woolf novels in this edition so I am happy if I find more why buy them of course I will but nevertheless I do draw the line at some editions but this is definitely in addition I want so yeah there's two is the lighthouse this is about mrs. Ramsay and they're like on vacation up somewhere probably think somewhere up in Scotland I'm not exactly sure I should probably look that up at some point anyway but I sold in classic Virginia Woolf style and it's beautiful and it's probably my second favorite novel first one of the best finds of this library book sale was this beautiful copy of Jeanette Winterson Zoras are not the only free okay maybe the cover isn't the greatest thing ever but it's beautiful at it as it is in almost pristine condition there's like an inscription on the inside but getting this book for like a dollar or two is just amazing I was trying to find it online and it is a lot more difficult to find this but so I found it it's just beautiful so there you go I know I just need to find why I'd be happy when you could meet all a book I've been looking for for literally years is this first edition of the amulet of Samarkand this is first in the Bartimaeus trilogy this is an audio book series that I listened to as a kid but it features a lot of footnotes and I had never heard of footnotes before and I didn't really know that books could be funny until I listened to these books so I love everything that Jonathan Stroud writes pretty much but this is definitely my favorite and they actually redid the first cover later but there are a hard compositions of the new cover but the fact that I found the original cover is just so delightful and it was a dollar like you can't you can't beat that so the next two are for all of you fantasy lovers out there and I found these collected editions of David Eddings the belgariad this is volume 2 and this is volume 2 of the mall Orion so I need Volume one in both of this series but it's a series of well this is series of five and this is a series of five but together they're series of ten it's confusing but whatever I love this series and it's not the best fantasy series ever but I spent so many wonderful days listening to the audio books of this series and so I real issen - I think the belgariad I when I was in college but I really enjoy it and there's just something special about David Eddings and what he writes and I was really excited to find these so I'm gonna go try a different news bookstore later and see if I can find the first volumes and this collected edition the last book I have is half the sky turning oppression into opportunity for women worldwide by Nicholas kristof and Sheryl WuDunn they are winners the Pulitzer Prize I don't think for this but for something else I don't know but they are very talented journalists and they went around the world look at women's rights issues and I why I really like the book and while it is from a Western perspective there's just something about the way that they share information that is very helpful there's a lot of things that I didn't know going into this book and I don't know it just raised awareness so even though it isn't perfect it was very helpful for me so I really enjoyed this and I found this copy for a dollar and so there's definitely one that I would lend out to people I think so I would F Lee want to add it to my library so those are the books that I have read so the next are books that I have not read but obviously want to read so let's start with another UK edition of Sarah waters I don't know how these books find their way over here or which in the used book sale but I found the Nightwatch I found paying guests I think last year and I've had these marked on my like Book Depository wishlist for a long time and I love these matching covers and I know last time I talked about I wasn't sure if I wanted to go the matching American covers route or if I wanted to go to matching UK covers obviously this means I'm going matching UK covers right so I mean I'll probably listen to the monado anyway so it doesn't really matter I'm not gonna actually gonna read this edition but you don't pass up you know UK edition of Sarah waters when it matches something you already have I think that's Kendra's book find philosophy a nutshell I finally discovered the nonfiction section of the library book sale I've never actually went over there before her because it's not very well organized to be honest but I finally found the miscellaneous memoir section which is where all the essay collections are and I found this moments of being by Virginia Woolf I haven't actually read this one I have I think God you know obviously flip flew it for like academic reasons and papers and blah blah blah but I've never actually sat and read this cover to cover so I'm very much looking forward to you know reading this I don't actually own this one so that's always exciting like I found what I don't actually own an edition of yet so I don't know I thought it was cool as I've seen where he'll spark floating around booktube so I picked up the prime of Miss Jean Brodie and I listened to a podcast these had a suggested like starting place with Muriel Spark but I think this was one of them and this is definitely the one I am the most familiar with but again I have never read this I've never read me girl spark so I look forward to finally reading her and it's a lot shorter than I thought it would be another writer that I have never read but I've heard wonderful things about obviously is Alice Munro so I found dear life and run away so I picked those up in their little beautiful matching covers there was a third one but it didn't the cover didn't match so I didn't find that one got a draw a line somewhere right another book I found is the Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid so I really enjoyed exit West it wasn't all my favorite books of the year but I enjoyed what he did with it but I'd heard a lot about this book in different places and this is really the book that made him famous when he came on the writing same kind of deal so I it's a lot shorter again that I thought it was so I was like why not I will never find this ever again like in this beautiful hardback copy sorry I went ahead and I picked it up a book that I may have read at some point in my college career but I have forgotten is one writer's beginnings by your door well tea I feel like we read excerpts of this yes we did but I've never read all of it we just read part of it and for some sort of sign reading or something basically I'm familiar with you know your oyster so those are all the books that I bought at the library book sale I definitely let me know if you've read some of those or want to hear more information about them they will all be linked below for you to check out um if that's something that you're interested in but that's it for me for now and I guess I'll see you the next one bye guyshey I'm gonna do Winchester welcome back to my channel and today we are going to be doing a library sale haul so every six months my library is a used book sale and bookstores donate their overstock copies and different things to the library sale so there's actually just used books not X library books at the sale so I I love this book sale it is my favorite book sale and all of the books usually range from one to three dollars I only spent three dollars on one book all the rest were either one or two dollars I think that's magnificent I think it's just so wonderful to have this library sale so anyway it's for a good cause also my birthday is usually around one of them which was the case this time so I was like well just go go and get what you want Kendra happy birthday so yeah so anyway I'm gonna show you the books I'm gonna start with books that I have read and then we'll go to books that I haven't read yet so the first book that I have is love that dog by Chloe Creech I do have a signed copy of this but it's the Scholastic like library hard kind of copy um this is a different edition so I may end up giving this to my nephew at some point but I'm not sure yet we'll see what happens oh this is a novel told in verse about the boy and he's in his English class and his teachers encouraging him to write poems so the entire book is from his first-person perspective and he's writing about his dog that he loves and this is a book that we read and writing for children class and we spent an entire class period going around and reading it and all of us were about in tears by the end but it was a beautiful book it is not a used book sale without me finding an edition of Virginia Woolf that I do not own and this is Virginia wolves to the White House I now own my three favorite Virginia Woolf novels in this edition so I am happy if I find more why buy them of course I will but nevertheless I do draw the line at some editions but this is definitely in addition I want so yeah there's two is the lighthouse this is about
