Fender Mustang GT 200 Amp - Hands On Review

The Fender Mustang GT Line: A Revolutionary Approach to Amplification and Guitar Playing

We have been excited about Fender's recently released Mustang GT line for some time now, but we haven't really had the opportunity to spend much time with it. Lucky for us, the company sent over a brand new American Professional Stratocaster and this Mustang GT 200 to check out. We brought in local guitar player Ryan Maher to spend some time with the amp and guitar, and tell us what he thinks.

The Features of the Amp

Fender's new Mustang GT amp comes in three different sizes: a 2 by 12 inch 200 watt amp is the largest, followed by a 1 by 12 inch 100 watt and a 2 by 6 inch 40 watt option. What makes this amp so special is its digital integration. It is a fully digital modeling amp with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on board, allowing you to pick between hundreds of different tone options on the amp. Unlike traditional amps that offer just one tone option, everything on the Mustang GT is fully customizable from where in the signal chain you put your reverb to what specific model of amp you're trying to imitate.

Everything on the Mustang GT is customizable both via this onboard screen and via a mobile app called Fender Tone. Most of the work you'll do on the amp in terms of affecting your tone happens over here on this multifunction screen, which can be accessed via a series of four buttons on the front of the amp. The other plates that you'll change the tone of the amp are via Defender Tone apps, which is an extremely useful application that connects via Bluetooth to your amp and allows them to adjust everything that you could adjust on the amp itself.

Simply scrolling through the menus lets you pick the base model of amps that the Mustang GT is emulating, followed by picking effects like spring reverb. You can add things like delays or laws, any kind of effects stompboxes modulations delay reverb all just with the push of buttons. Once you do that, you can adjust the sound of each one down below.

Additional Inputs and Outputs

In addition to all the tonal capabilities of the amplifiers, they also have a couple very cool inputs and outputs. If you're looking to play along with your favorite tunes, the company offers an auxiliary input. Additionally, if you're looking to not wake up your neighbors, there is a headphone input that bypasses the speakers' of the amps and allows you to just play through headphones using all the same tonal possibilities on the back of the amp.

The Mustang GT also has couple very cool outputs in stereo balanced XLR outs for recording which bypasses speakers as well. It also features a USB out for direct recording to hard drive, as well as a foot switch that comes standard with the GT 200 model and is an option on the other two models below it. The foot switch allows you to choose between various sonic presets effects, and even acts as a looper if you're looking to play in loop settings if you hold this button right here.

It also lets you access the tuner. Everything on the Mustang GT amp is very well thought out and very solidly built from this rubberized handle it's very sturdy two velcro attachment points for the foot switch and cable for when you take it on the go as well as just in general a very well-built wooden cabinet.

The Guitar

This guitar is beautiful just aesthetically, and I can always tell the guitars that are not just by picking up and feeling it. And this is a well-put-together guitar for sure like it's just a knife. It's really cool how much it is but not just that the quality of the sound so far the sound needle it sounds like real Reapers all of the models of the hands that are emulating sound reopened sounding oh really we're selling so I've been impressed so far you
