Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc First Look

The New Slide: A Revolutionary Android Experience

The first thing you're going to notice about this device is that it's running Android 2.3, and more specifically, it uses the Mobile Bravia Engine. This gives us a super bright display that is not only more efficient than traditional AMOLED displays but also much better in terms of brightness when viewed in direct sunlight. As a result, we're seeing improved battery life, making this device capable of lasting under relatively heavy use for over a day and a half.

The display itself is comfortable to use, with a high level of visibility that makes it easy to read and navigate even in bright conditions. The camera side of the device also benefits from this new display technology, providing excellent performance in low light shooting. The processor used in this device is the same one found in our DSLRs and Cyber Shots, ensuring that the phone can handle demanding tasks with ease.

When using the main menu, you'll notice a total of three home screens, each with multiple widgets available to customize. One of the coolest features of this device is the ability to pinch in and view an overview of all your widgets on all your home screens. From there, you can simply push the widget to access that page. This feature adds a whole new level of personalization to the phone, making it feel truly tailored to your needs.

As you navigate across the bottom pane, you'll notice that certain items remain visible even when switching between screens. This is especially useful for those who have frequently used apps and need quick access to them at all times. You can customize which apps appear in this designated area, allowing you to tailor the experience to fit your specific needs.

The device also features standard Android notifications from the top of the screen, including updates on social media apps like Facebook. The new Facebook app is present, as well as the Facebook Outlook, which offers a range of useful tools for mobile users, such as picture editing and sharing capabilities.

The camera on this device is an 8.1 megapixel sensor, complete with LED flash and support for HD video recording at 720p resolution. The HDMI output allows for connection to external devices, making it easy to transfer photos and videos or stream content directly from the phone. Charging options include both mini and micro USB ports, standard in today's smartphones.

When using the camera mode, holding the button down takes you straight into your preferred shooting mode. From there, you can switch between still photography and video recording with ease, thanks to a simple touch of a button. The settings menu is comprehensive, offering features like photo light, which is similar to what you'd find on a standard point-and-shoot camera.

In terms of battery life, the device performs impressively under heavy use. While exact figures are not available, personal experience suggests that this phone can last over a day and a half, even with frequent use of email, social media, and other demanding apps. The improved display efficiency, combined with the 2-3 home screens and efficient processor, all contribute to this excellent battery life.

The device's processor is powered by either the Snapdragon or 8255 chipsets, both of which are considered among the latest and greatest in mobile technology. This ensures that the phone can handle demanding tasks without hesitation, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a powerful and feature-rich Android experience.
