The Evolution of Wireless Earbuds: A Comparative Analysis of Apple AirPods Pro 2 and Beats Studio Buds Plus
When it comes to wireless earbuds, there are many options available in the market, each with its own unique features and advantages. Two popular options that have gained significant attention in recent times are the Apple AirPods Pro 2 and the Beats Studio Buds Plus. In this article, we will delve into a comparative analysis of these two earbuds to determine which one is the better buy.
One of the key differences between the two earbuds is their approach to sound quality. The Beats Studio Buds Plus takes a more relaxed and fun approach to sound, with a focus on delivering an enjoyable listening experience. According to the reviewer, "it's kind of like it's just sounds like it's going to be fun like you want to groove to and I think it's kind of the demographic they're going for where the AirPods Pro 2 has tries to appeal to everybody and tries to be super exact and precise with what it's doing". This approach is evident in the earbuds' design, which features a more casual and laid-back aesthetic.
On the other hand, the Apple AirPods Pro 2 takes a more premium and technical approach to sound quality. The reviewer notes that "the audio quality is definitely improved here" and that "I really like it on these Beats Studio Buds Plus". While both earbuds deliver high-quality audio, the AirPods Pro 2's emphasis on precision and accuracy sets it apart from the Beats Studio Buds Plus.
Another key area of difference between the two earbuds is their Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) capabilities. The reviewer notes that "the ANC on the new Beat Studio buds plus is immediately apparent" but also acknowledges that the AirPods Pro 2 still has a slight edge in this department. Both earbuds offer excellent noise cancellation, but the AirPods Pro 2's adaptive transparency mode gives it an extra layer of functionality.
In terms of features, both earbuds offer some impressive capabilities. The Beats Studio Buds Plus feature wireless charging, ear sensors, and head tracking for spatial audio, making them a great option for Android users or those who move between Apple and Android devices. However, the AirPods Pro 2 offers additional features such as precision tracking with fine tuning, a more advanced mic system, and actual volume controls on the earbuds.
When it comes to price, the Beats Studio Buds Plus are $20 cheaper than the original Beat Studio buds, but they retail for $170, which is still a significant price difference compared to the AirPods Pro 2. While both earbuds offer high-quality audio and advanced features, the AirPods Pro 2's MSRP of $249 gives it an edge in terms of overall value.
Ultimately, the decision between the Apple AirPods Pro 2 and the Beats Studio Buds Plus comes down to individual preferences and needs. If you're looking for a premium wireless earbud experience with advanced features and excellent sound quality, the AirPods Pro 2 may be the better choice. However, if you're an Android user or prefer a more casual and fun listening experience, the Beats Studio Buds Plus are definitely worth considering.
The reviewer concludes that "I think it is then for sure worth it to pick up" the Beats Studio Buds Plus, particularly for Android users who will benefit from the earbuds' advanced features and seamless integration with their device. However, for those who prioritize premium sound quality and advanced features, the AirPods Pro 2 is still the better option.
In conclusion, both the Apple AirPods Pro 2 and the Beats Studio Buds Plus offer impressive wireless earbud experiences with unique strengths and weaknesses. While the Beats Studio Buds Plus are a great option for Android users or those who prefer a more casual listening experience, the AirPods Pro 2's premium sound quality and advanced features make it the better choice for many consumers.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enlet's compare the Beat Studio buds plus against the airpods Pro 2 Welcome everybody to Apple Insider it is Andrew here and after aonly leaking and being available to purchase on Amazon ahead of their release the brand new Beats Studio buds plus are finally available and they have a lot of new features improvements and come this really cool transends loosen colorway so let's go ahead and compare them to Apple's airpods Pro 2 let's go ahead and start with the cases the airpods pro Second Generation and the Beat Studio Buzz Plus have fairly similar case sizes I mean the case here has not really changed from the original Beat Studio buds to the Beat Studio buds plus it's a little more bulbous it's a little bit thicker a little taller a little wider than the airpods pro but it does have larger battery life the airpods Pro 2 will give you 6 hours on a single charge or 30 hours total when you include what's in the case the Beats Studio buds plus will get you 6 hours for what's in the earbuds but a total of 36 hours including what's in the case so that large battery that you can see right through the translucent case yeah that's contributing to the size here but there's also just a little bit of extra space just because of the design of this and the buds themselves are a little bit bigger a little more rounded versus the thin stems of the airpods pro let's talk about charging the Beat Studio buds plus can charge over one way which is USBC there's a USBC Port there on the bottom and a USBC to USBC cable included in the Box airpods Pro 2 has far more options you can charge using a cable there's a lightning Port located on the bottom of the device but you can also use an Apple Watch charging puck you can use any G charger and you use any max saave charger to me the wireless options are far more accommodating cuz I just can slap this on any wirel charger that I have around sitting my studio um you know they're all over the place very handy I hate that you can't wirelessly charge the Beat Studio buds plus but USBC I think a lot of people think is a lot nicer than lightning cuz just far more open a lot of people use it if you're using an Android device you have a USBC cable if you're using an iPad a Mac or anything really on the Apple e system you likely have USBC as well so USBC is far more open here than lightning but it does sound like there's an updated version of the case for airpods Pro 2 coming this fall when Apple does make the switch from lightning to USBC on its latest crop of iPhones last thing kind of on the cases here these each support ipx4 water and sweat resistance and the airpods Pro 2 case has a little lanyard attachment there on the side though there's tons of different cases available for both of these if you want to add additional lanyard attachments or protection anything like that inside apple is using its H2 custom Wireless chip which add a lot of features especially for iOS users on the beat side the Beat Studio buds Plus plus used the latest generation custom beats silicon so it's still its own custom silicon on the inside still uses class one audio and many of the same features as airpods Pro 2 but it is not the same H2 chip so there's still just a little bit of a difference in that and I think that custom chip in the Beats is what's going to allow for so many Android features that we're going to talk about in just a few each of these supports One Touch setup airpods Pro you can open them up near your iPhone or your iPad will instantly pop up on screen pair them with your device and S it to your iCloud account on the Beat Studio Bud side these things can also do the OneTouch pairing for iOS but they also support the OneTouch setup on Android airpods Pro 2 does not do that you have to hold the button and sync them manually as a Bluetooth headset uh but the Beat Studio buds plus automatic OneTouch setup on Android or iOS going along with that OneTouch setup Apple uses your iCloud account to automatically device switch for you so as you move from your iPhone to your iPad to your Mac um it can automatically move between these devices as you start playing content the Beat Studio buds plus has something similar but it also works on Android you can move from your Chromebook to your Android phone very seiously just automatically has its own automatic switching feature that works for Android as well as iOS since we're talking about the cross compatibility here uh find my support both of these support the find my app on iOS but the Beat Studio buds plus also supports find my device over on Android there is a difference though so even though this does support Android the airpods version the airpods Pro 2 supports Precision finding and even has a speaker on the bottom of its case makes it very easy to find the case there's no speaker on here so you can play a noise but it'll come out of the earbuds on the inside with these they actually have the U1 chip same as the air tags you can use Precision finding to track down exactly where your airpods are and make the case make noise to make it easier to find if it's buried in a cushion anything like that um because really you don't hear the earbuds on the inside all that much same goes for these it's much more useful if the buds are out of the case cuz you can hear them easier but if you misplace the whole thing it can be a little bit harder to track down let's take a look now at the individual earbuds Apple has upgraded all their earbuds this year including a new extra small size and that includes the new Beat Studio buds plus and the airpods Pro 2 so these will fit more ears than ever before I think both of these are extremely comfortable to wear I don't have much of a difference kind of in wise they do fit differently Apple still used like an oval shape on the airpods Pro 2 versus the complete round one on the Beat Studio buds plus but I think they both fit in at least my ears very comfortably these are obviously more compact because they sit just in your ear and they don't protrude down so they just sit right there kind of nestled in where's the airpods Pro 2 they have of course the iconic stem that Apple's known for sticks down these fit a little bit more flush it feels like into your ear between the two I think I like the fit of the airpod Pro 2 a little bit better but everyone's fit is going to be different there's also different controls on these two sets of earbuds for the airpods Pro 2 Apple has what's called a for stem so you can click here to start playing click again to pause you can hold on to it to change a and C modes between transparency and active noise cancellation or turn it off on the Beats Studio buds plus there's instead a new tapping gesture well not a new tapping gesture but uh you can tap on these to control playback as well as play or change your transparency modes the one thing the airpods Pro 2 has that the Beat Studio buds doesn't have is the ability to adjust volume you can run your finger up and down the for stem to adjust volume this is really handy especially if you don't have like an apple watch where you can use a digital Crown it's very simple to move your finger up and down to adjust volume on the fly directly from your airpods Pro 2 the last thing about the earbuds is Apple clearly as you can see from all these sensors here has sensors that will detect whether or not they are in your ears and they even have upgraded sensors on the second generation airpods Pro that make it more accurate so things like dark spaces aren't going to ently set these off the Beat Studio buds Plus on the other hand have no such sensors on them so when you're put these in your ear and you play music and you remove it from your ear it's going to continue playing so if you go to have a conversation with somebody oh hey and you pull these out of your ear set them in your hand or something the music is still ongoing or your book is Ono going or your podcast so you need to make sure you pause them or put them back into the case for me this is one of the biggest usability changes between the two devices is just none of those automatic pause sensors those ear detection sensors that the airpods pro have it's a little bit of a downside for me um I really like being able to take them off and things automatically pause let's start with audio quality the first precursor is the actual tuning and the sound of these earbuds Apple has something called adaptive EQ on the airpods pro to this uses an face a microphone to automatically tune the music to your ears so it sounds as it is intended to be heard the Beat Studio buds plus do not have this uh same effect they do not have the Adaptive EQ that will adjust to your ears so it just comes out the same as it does for everybody both of these the B3 buds plus and the airpods Pro 2 support spatial audio but the airpods Pro 2 supports spatial audio with head tracking what that means is if you are you know have your audio Source in front of you and you move your head it'll kind of sound like the sound is moving around you and staying fixed it's a really cool effect especially for watching movies and TV shows you have a movie playing and you can turn your head this way you'll still hear the dialogue is coming from right in front of you I think that is one of the most immersive things about the airpods Pro 2 when using spatial audio and watching videos unfortunately it doesn't work with the uh Beat Studio buds plus but you still have the spatial audio effect and it's obviously more prominent with music uh and then you don't worry about the head tracking quite as much so audio quality between the two here's how I would describe it I think if we're just looking at the bottom line I think airpods Pro 2 sound a bit better not by a ton though I think I would describe their audio quality as more like straight down the middle it's a very neutral sound profile that does its best to to kind of just give you the audio as it's meant to be heard versus The Beat Studio buds plus which has this it's a very large fun kind of poppy sound agage that sounds great like it just sounds almost more like energetic with it it just sounds like it's kind of like fun like you want to groove to and I think it's kind of the demographic they're going for where the airpods Pro 2 has tries to appeal to everybody and tries to be super exact and precise with what it's doing whereas the Beat Studio buds is like okay the audio is going to sound really good but we just want to make this fun and make you love jamming to your music I don't think either of these is necessarily bad or wrong and honestly a lot of the times I was listening I really like this coming out the Beat Studio buds plus I know wasn't maybe exactly you know perfectly how it was supposed to be emulated in your ears but it just sounds fun and good and still has substantial base the audio quality is definitely improved here and I really like it on these Beat Studio buds plus I wouldn't complain about the audio quality on either of these at the price points but what about ANC beat says Apple has improved the ANC on the new Beat Studio buds plus and that's immediately apparent just some background noises here in the studio and playing some sounds on the computer I could easily notice the difference between the uh first generation and the latest generation Beat Studio butts it's definitely better but airpods Pro 2 still wins out these are still better these still do a fantastic job on A&C some of the best in the business Sony Bose maybe tops there but still fantastic A&C on here the other difference is both these support transparency mode but the airpods Pro 2 supports adaptive transparency mode so you've allowed no going on you have uh you know a hammer or a drill that you're using power tools a siren going by the airpods pro two will automatically drop that sound down so you're not getting blasted in your ear when you have transparency mode enabled the Beat Studio buds plus they don't do that just kind of on it's all or nothing with the transparency mode so you're still getting a microphone to pick up that that siren and put it into your ear it doesn't hurt or anything it's not like loud and Blasting your ear but it's not the same as the Adaptive transparency mode that the airpods 2 has so where does this bring us all between the two devices Apple's second generation airpods Pro 2 uh or the New Beat Studio buds which is the better buy well the Beat Studio buds plus these have a $20 price difference over the last generation pair so compared to the original Beat Studio buds plus they're $20 more expensive but I think they've added a lot of things here and they are much better compared to these two big upgrade for the Beat Studio buds but when we're comparing directly to the airpod ODS Pro 2 it's harder the airpods Pro 2 retail for $249 so 250 versus $170 that's a bigger difference between these guys and if we're looking at full MSRP I'm going to tell people to buy the Beat Studio buds plus seven times out of 10 I just think it it makes more sense they're still great earbuds and have most of the iOS features but there's a lot of things that the beat or the airpods Pro 2 do that the Beat Studio Plus don't you have Precision tracking with fine my the speaker on the case better ANC better audio quality uh wireless charging the ear sensors head tracking for spatial audio and actual volume controls on the earbuds I think it's a lot of things for the airpods Pro 2 to do better and they're even smaller but when they say you should get these is usually when they're on sale airpods Pro 2 will drop frequently to $199 so when you're looking at $200 for airpods Pro 2 or $170 for the Beat Studio buds plus I'm going to tell you to get airpods Pro 2 10 times out of 10 the only time that I would say to get the Beat Studio buds plus is if you're an Android User or you move between Apple and Android devices because these have far superior Android support you have find my device there you have the native Beats app you have a ton of things like the OneTouch setup like they've done a lot to support Android with the Beat Studio buds plus and I think it is then for sure worth it to pick up up let me know what you guys think are you fans of the new Beat Studio buds plus and all the fun colors or do you like the airpods pro too let me know Down Below in the comments or on Twitter at Andrew U if you like to pick up either of these I've got links for them in the descriptions otherwise stay tuned I've got a lot more videos coming your waylet's compare the Beat Studio buds plus against the airpods Pro 2 Welcome
