Getting a 3D Printer with Diana

The Joy of 3D Printing: A Beginner's Journey

As I sat down to start my 3D printing journey, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and trepidation. I had heard about 3D printing from friends and online forums, but never thought I'd take the plunge myself. That was until I looked at the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon, which my work provided, and fell in love with its sleek design. The ergonomic keyboard and touchpad felt like a dream to use, and I couldn't help but wonder if I could bring this same level of quality into my home workshop.

I decided to take the plunge and invest in a 3D printer of my own. But where do you start? As a beginner, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information available online. Who should I turn to for guidance? I asked around, and got recommendations from friends who were already into 3D printing. One friend suggested looking at Thingiverse, a popular platform for sharing and downloading 3D models. "It's like a treasure trove of designs," they said. "You can find everything from phone cases to miniature furniture."

I spent hours browsing through the site, marveling at the intricate details and complexity of the designs. I even stumbled upon some tutorials on how to design my own 3D models using software like Blender or Tinkercad. But as I delved deeper into the world of 3D printing, I realized that designing my own models was a daunting task. I needed a tool that could help me create complex shapes and designs without having to learn code or use specialized software.

That's when I stumbled upon Slic3r, a free and open-source slicing software that allows users to convert 3D models into printable files. It was like magic - simply upload your design, adjust some settings, and voila! The printer would know exactly how to bring your creation to life. I was amazed by the level of detail and precision it produced, and couldn't wait to try it out.

As I experimented with Slic3r, I realized that 3D printing wasn't just about creating objects - it was also about the process itself. I found myself spending hours tweaking settings, adjusting temperatures, and monitoring the print job as it came together. It was meditative, in a way - like watching a puzzle come together piece by piece.

But 3D printing isn't just for hobbyists or enthusiasts - it has real-world applications too. From creating prosthetics to designing custom phone cases, the possibilities are endless. And with the rise of online communities and forums, it's easier than ever to connect with other users, share designs, and learn from each other.

As I explored the world of 3D printing, I stumbled upon some fascinating projects that caught my eye. There was a group of designers who created miniature furniture for dollhouses, using 3D printing to produce intricate details and shapes. And then there were others who built custom action figures, like the Star Wars-inspired figure I had been dreaming about.

One of the most exciting discoveries I made was the world of resin 3D printing. With its ability to create incredibly detailed and smooth surfaces, it opened up a whole new realm of possibilities for design and creativity. But as I delved deeper into the world of resin printing, I realized that it came with its own set of challenges - from achieving optimal print quality to dealing with the limitations of resin itself.

Despite these challenges, I remained committed to exploring the world of 3D printing. And as I continued to learn and grow, I found myself becoming more confident in my abilities. Whether it was designing custom phone cases or creating intricate miniature furniture, I knew that I had the power to bring my ideas to life. The only question left was - what would be my next project?

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: eni think i'm getting one to mess around with as well and that will probably be constructed on site i i gotta learn a lot about 3d printing like i don't think i can have the 3d printing in here or the printer in here because the the fumes i think it's it's an issue it could be dangerous you have to do it more like garage kind of areas but see i'm going to have to be mobile to stream those things so i'm going to need some kind of mobile stream setup yeah but there's nothing but there's nothing out there right now that i want to spend my money on that's the problem so i don't wanna i don't wanna waste my money but i need to spend money and it's a question of what i'm going to have to spend my money on because even on wednesday diana's i you could like bring it down to the kitchen when's diana day when's diana day um no fumes with the basic filaments okay well maybe i'll be good i don't think i i uh i don't know i don't know which ones are which uh but um i'm looking for i would be looking for stl files i'd be looking specifically for like star wars things to 3d print that's that's my primary interest but my yeah i i would probably bring it up here and we'd figure something out i just got to figure out how to make it all work and i don't i'm a little scared i'm just kind of like honestly because it's just it's it's it's always at a distance it looks like it's difficult it's an unspoken rule that you get a 3d printer you have to create a print an act of action i don't have an act how am i going to actually figure out myself like i'm not i would need someone to model me like a vintage star wars figure i will have endless amount of things to print that's great uh i but we don't even know where we're going to set it up in the garage because it needs to be on a flat surface and i i i don't know i don't know i think anybody could i don't think it's a matter of could you learn i think anybody could i might look into that um so yeah uh it's a question of where we would have the the space for it and i don't know if we do i i don't know if we have the the area for it because no one can touch it like when it's doing its thing you just got to let it do its thing but what i thought about doing is like if i'm doing like i saw there's a mandalorian print thing and um so that's one of the ones i want to do and it was on thingiverse and what i thought i'd do is like okay i'm gonna flip over to the to the the other camera and then like go to bed but leave it streaming all night like with a count up timer or you could just bring it with you to ben no no i'm not gonna bring the print 3d print i've done that before i streamed myself sleeping i was like one of the first persons to stream myself asleep oh yeah i did i did i was i did a lot of firsts with live streaming on the internet uh internet thank you uh uh ratmus uh for following uh the mini is small 18 by 20 by 20. what does that mean chris i'm a phone call video chat away i can help with the name of it i may be taking you up on that offer loyal nice um it's another unspoken rule you can't 3d print anything that requires stickers amen um the mini is small so what okay 18 inch by 2020 okay that's fine it's small it's manageable right i think that i just have to clear the space for it but um i think i just i would i be able to i need someone has to make the model for me to put press a button and then put it in the thing that's what i need i can't i don't want to get into like editing and like designing and tweaking i just want because i'm not into that i'm not into the whole 3d design thing it's like it's not my jam like it's never i'm like like the cool part right you get to like create your own you could if you're into like 3d that's like a whole thing though like 3d design like that's that this is something i'm intrigued in okay remember i'm always doing dna yeah that's fair i'm just saying diana there's a i mean i know my way around this stuff and like it's like it's it is a thing i am totally into pushing a button sticking a little card in and going done and i'll design it be so much easier so yeah someone's so i don't know how to 3d print a figure myself because i don't have anything 3d print 3d of myself um or anything have i looked at the lenovo thinkpad x1 carbon got one for work and love it looks very sith like no crash override 617 i have not i'm going to check out i'd probably go with a i'd probably go with a uh 3d printer um yeah who would you expect who would you uh ask loyal who would you who would suggest for noobs yeah 3d printing like news like creative stuff like noobs anything miniature well i guess it doesn't go very small but i mean it couldn't go i mean depending on your resin might get smaller i've seen like a lot of it depends on what it is but you may not have a lot of detail at small scale super small scale but it depends on the resolution oh can i make like furniture for like the dollhouse oh yeah yeah go to thingiverse they like finger thingiverse is like they got the models you can download and press a button and then oh that's your timeline yeah then you can oh but if you wanted to create your own yeah then you could design your own like you'd have to get a 3d like a cad type of tool might be into this okay what was it again oh my wife and children stop and start prints for me oh that's cool great because i'm thinking like streaming something i mean depending on the build but like letting it go all night and streaming it right i'll go to bed i'll leave music going i don't think i'd have chat integrated because people could they totally buy a christmas crisp someone has to design a chris pirillo star wars action figure but it's got to be 5poa 3d printable five poa star warsy star wars right like the the head and everything and like you know that it's got i i i yeah that'd be cool and then you could then someone could make a diana 5 poa star wars like you're like princess leia star wars and i'm like you know the other one yeah that's that one you download and use free software proof of slicer tells the printer how to print the stl save it to usb stick and hit print yep go flip webster okay you don't have to design see yeah cstl files see i figured the stl files you download them use free software tells the printer how to print the stl so we we we need to make a we need to make action someone we need to find someone who can do an action figure design see starting to get into that zbrush is very intimidating though it's not like i said it this is not microsoft paint this is not notepad do you think it'll ever get to that oh yeah with trooper armor on that's yeah totally i like a stormtrooper armor but like chris head someone's got to design it i've got like i'm using there's a program i talked about um yesterday the guy started following me i think dylan's dad this i show wait wait i want to try this back up okay i found wexter no no back up i hear you sit here sorry everybody you get to look at my butt you look at my popcorn butt sit right there okay right here yes sit down okay just wait don't move do not move don't just pick a pose ready don't look at it oh i moved sorry okay i'll try not to move this not to move i'm scanning diana this is easier to do but i don't have an iphone i don't have one of the new fancy fangled iphones with the whole 3d face thing and everything and the the app there's there might be a better one out there but oh no no no no okay i lost it um that's okay you can't move my eyes either or yeah no you i mean you can it's just gonna this they're just compositing i don't there's probably a better app for this but look so this is a free app well yeah so look oh you got my whole body i got like i was only able to get like only so much before it stopped that's cool yeah so this can export as an stl file but the problem is i don't know if it's if it's too buggy because i can't i can't get all the whole scan so if there's another way of doing something like this like you got to let me know because that's that's how we would get like the figure scope that someone would be able to use you know there's there's probably something out there that does this and i i don't know what it is um but yeah it's it's it's pretty cool this is called uh it is called uh em 3di think i'm getting one to mess around with as well and that will probably be constructed on site i i gotta learn a lot about 3d printing like i don't think i can have the 3d printing in here or the printer in here because the the fumes i think
