the amount of facebook messages i got about this but i'm going to be making ketchup mayo ice cream i've done many recipes that include ketchup and mayo including cakes and jelly molds but i have never done a recipe i don't think that combine the two of them except fry sauce that is a great combination actually when you take ketchup mayo and relish and mix that together i digress but that is a delicious combination but this time we're combining mayo and ketchup in a dessert which i think most people would agree is an odd combination but when i did a little bit of research about this i learned that it was created in the philippines at a place called the freezer burn and they combine mayo and ketchup make it into an ice cream and they serve it with french fries so it is referencing fry sauce and this idea of using ketchup and mayo together to make a fry sauce which i adore and then ice cream and something salty which i remember doing at wendy's you ever do that you take get a frosty and you get an order of fries and you do the whole frosty fry thing delicious right so i think this actually makes a lot of logical sense and it actually doesn't sound too bad to me but we will not know until we make it so i'm going to make that today but i'm going to put a little spin on things spin spin because i'm gonna be using this and this is a mega ball and it's an ice cream maker so this mega ball i found at savers where i'll find all of my great weird vintage odd gadgets and i paid six dollars for it but it's brand spanking new so the concept of this is in one compartment you put your ice cream base and then in the second compartment you put your ice and salt together which is just like the old-fashioned ice cream churners they're in separate compartments they never touch each other but the ice and salt water cool your ice cream base down and you roll the ball which causes it to churn and to make ice cream it comes in two different sizes the original and the mega and the mega makes one quart of ice cream so this is the one i happen to have it's a really simple recipe you just use cream vanilla and sugar so i've actually used this before i was working at a camp and they worked really well with that simple three part recipe i've never of course made the ice cream with mayo and ketchup before so that will be something new here's our lovely blue ball just one it comes with this little gadget here which allows you to loosen and tighten the lid and it comes with this recipe booklet with all different kinds of recipes and of course instructions so this is the actual chamber for the ice cream mixture it's looks like it's aluminum and we'll put our ice cream in there then on this side is another compartment and this is on the outside of the chamber and this is where we'll stuff our ice and our salt shake it off it doesn't smell like curry that's good i always sniff my spatulas because i don't want my sweets desserts tasting like you know my fried omelette or the last thing i cooked with this thing so i give it a little sniff and it smells like you know bacon i'll wash it because i'm making mayo ketchup ice cream not bacon ice cream right sniff your spatula doesn't smell like anything great because i'm making this in my ice cream ball i am adapting this recipe from the one that i found on facebook and combining it with the one that came with the actual ball maker ball maker ice cream maker so we're going to put our sugar in and add our heavy cream now we're going to whisk this to dissolve all the sugar make sure you have a slightly happy face when you're whisking your stuff i always tell you that when you're like talent and they're filming you they're like have a smart smile on your face and you're just like whatever i'm just whisking okay so i'm gonna call that good now i'm gonna add a splash of vanilla so we can be reminded that this is you know ice cream now we're going to add everyone's favorite egg based condiment mayonnaise quarter cup oh yeah now we're going to add our ketchup okay equal amount of ketchup this too i think will work it's got a little bit of spice it's got a little bit of acidity tomato and of course it's a little bit sweet so oh and now it's got a little bit of a pink hue to it actually looks a little bit more tan than pink right so here is our ball and now we're going to fill it with the ice so open this chamber make sure this is the ice chamber and we're going to fill it with ice and salt so i did my best and looked for rock salt which is what you're supposed to use for ice cream makers but i couldn't find any and the directions say it's fine to use kosher salt or regular table salt which i happen to have because we make a lot of play-doh around here so this will work you just have to add an extra quarter cup of the iodized regular table salt okay so fill the chamber throwing that in my sink otherwise it's going to be a puddle and my socks are going to get wet and i don't like wet socks all right back to filling our chamber so i'm going to put the salt in the middle here so what the addition of salt does it actually brings the temperature down a little bit colder so it will help make this ice cream set up even faster i live so many years without an automatic ice maker i am so grateful that this machine does this for me in such large quantity it's absolutely wonderful okay so before i fill it up all the way i'm going to add the rest of my salt sorry for the noise all right so now i'm gonna put this lid on they say specifically in the instructions not to over tighten this just to hand tighten it the wrench is really for just opening this rather than tightening it so i'm just gonna do it hand tighten this is much much heavier and it's pretty solid now i'm going to add my ice cream mixture to the chamber there it is since this is the mega ball that filled that up about half of its capacity now we're going to make sure the gasket is seated properly i'm going to twist that on there again just hand tighten now for the fun part we just are going to start rolling this for 15 minutes and then we're going to scrape the sides of it and see how well it is and then we'll do it again for another 10 to 15 minutes and it should be done all right so this is what we're supposed to do not necessarily on your counter you just kick this outside and roll it on the grass which i will do so this is not filled to capacity so i'm imagining that this will actually cool faster than if i had used the full one quart amount but we will see all right here we go see see all my tricks i can do all kinds of tricks this is very heavy and although it might be very tempting the instructions specifically say do not kick this or do not throw it which makes absolute sense right although this is a very sturdy polycarbonate plastic it will break if you treat it roughly plus it'll probably really hurt this is very very hard this actually is not a ball so it doesn't roll all that well it's actually more and it's really pretty noisy but it's not leaking i like that it's not leaking how was your day honey oh it was great i just had a giant blue ball filled with a ketchup mayo ice cream i'm just rolling it around the kitchen all right here we are outside with the blue jays and i'm not supposed to be kicking this but i'm doing it kind of gently let's go visit the bees shall we just pick up my ball give me this sauce it's kind of hard work actually oh look the bees are out let's go check out the bees since we're outside hello ladies it's beautiful isn't it more ice to this was probably another couple cups and a little bit more salt and let's see how the ice cream is doing i have to say this is a great way to earn your dessert this actually requires a good amount of energy this is quite heavy i would say this is probably a good 10 pounds maybe and lefty loosey righty tighty right so i'm gonna use this to lefty loosey ready tidy okay good this is actually very handy oh there's our ice cream holy smokes it's totally frozen i think this might be done yes look look look look it's totally lined on the inside of that oh my gosh it's so exciting yes look at this we have ice cream yes yes yes yes i don't think we even need to do this again 15 minutes y'all awesome awesome awesome awesome this is my favorite ice cream scoop i adore it it's a zero i used to have a vintage one which got a little bit ruined my husband bought me a new one for my birthday i love it the handle contains a little magic fluid inside and it conducts the heat from your hand through the handle into the fluid and then it warms up the bowl of the scoop and this thing makes beautiful balls of ice cream see gorgeous the most perfect lovely scoops of ice cream now get out thank you and for good measure and just because you know go big or go home we're gonna add a little more ketchup oh yeah let's give this a taste i'm going to taste the first bite without the additional ketchup because i feel like that's going to take over itadakimasu oh i actually taste a lot of the mayo and the ketchup yes i think if i was blindfolded i would definitely know that there is mayo in there don't don't really like that so much it's it tastes a little bit vinegared and sweet i don't taste the ketchup so much i don't taste that kind of distinctive like little bit of a clovy bite to it at all i mostly taste the sweetness and a little bit of vinegar and it's creamy and rich and sweet which is odd it tastes a lot like miracle whip ooh that bite had a little bit more ketchup all right now let's have it full-on and have it with the ketchup as well maybe this will be better i don't know no no i definitely would not eat this as it is it's just not very delicious i definitely taste the ketchup more because it was drenched in ketchup but it tastes a little bit different than what i remember ketchup tasting i think it's that combination of added sweetness and dairy to that the consistency of the ice cream is excellent though very smooth and rich and whipped very nicely churned lovely great ice cream ice cream maker fabulous i highly recommend the mega ball ice cream maker though i think it would be great at birthday parties camping trips i think kids would love rolling it around and then of course they get to eat their results fantastic would not recommend this recipe though not very delicious although freezer burn did serve this with french fries which are hot and cold i think that would be a fun experience i unfortunately don't have french fries with me but i do have the next best thing which are kettle cooked plain potato chips so let's try it with fat i think this would push this a little bit more into that combination of sweet and salty and i am hoping this will be a better combination let's try that mmm so much better with the potato chip because this is so nice and salty it has that really great big crunch it goes really well with this it's like frosty and fries with ketchup this is also a great way to consume extra calories because here you have a deep fried chip and you're dipping it into frozen heavy cream this is actually a great combination you've got the cold whipped ice cream with the addition of ketchup but the combination of ketchup and potato is a familiar one and a good one so you just add this little cold texture creamy rich thing and this crunchy crunchy potato chip it's actually pretty good you must have it with the potato chip or the french fry otherwise i can't recommend it all right thanks so
