How to Enjoy Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio on Your Apple HomePod or Sonos Era 300
Welcome everybody, I'm Andrew here and I'm going to show you how you can listen to Dolby Atmos spatial 3D audio on your Apple homepod or Sonos era 300. Whether with your homepod or your Sonos there's two primary ways you can listen to spatial audio one is through the speaker itself just streaming it from your phone or other source and the other is by playing it through your television set.
Here we're primarily going to focus on just listening to music in spatial audio so the first thing you're going to do when using your homepod is jump into the home app from inside the home app tap on the Ellipsis in the top right hand corner then tap on home settings then choose your name from the list of people scroll down to Media where it says Apple music and then enable Dolby Atmos at the bottom once enabled you can now listen to spatial audio on your homepod but where to get spatial audio music to play on your homepod well you can do so from Apple music.
So here I'm going to jump into Apple music and you can just even search for spatial audio Apple's created a category and special playlists that take advantage of spatial audio to give you the best experience otherwise when you're playing a song that supports spatial audio you'll see it denoted on the now playing screen. Here you can see stressed out by 21 Pilots supports Dolby Atmos right there so if I tap on the airplay icon and I move it over to one of my home pods like right here in the studio I know when that song plays it'll be playing in spatial audio.
Spatial audio works on one and two home pods so you can listen to One by itself or two when put together in a stereo pair for the era 300 things are similar but they work a little bit differently because we're working within the Sonos ecosystem to start. Let's go ahead and open up the Sonos app for the Sonos you don't need to enable spatial audio or Dolby Atmos it'll just be on by default but what you need to do to play the music is a little bit different.
See you can't actually cast audio from your phone to the speaker and have enough data to include spatial audio so instead like with homepod when you go to play music it's actually downloading it directly from Apple music including the higher quality needed for spatial audio. The same thing happens to the uh the Sonos era 300 so from the Sonos app you need to pair your Apple music account alternatively there are other sources that support spatial audio on the Sonos era whereas only Apple music is supported on the homepods.
You can also use things like Amazon Music Unlimited and get spatial audio here I'm connected to the era 300 through Apple music and if I hit play you can see there's a little icon on the right hand side Taylor Swift's anti-hero supports spatial audio and it'll work with my one or two Sonos era 300s paired together. Aside from streaming from your phone you can also pair a pair of Sonos era 300 with the second generation beam or Arc sound bar and use them as rear Dolby Atmos speakers in your actual setup they'll include both your rear audio as well as help with the upper audio for that above Channel and 3D spatial audio.
So that's it that's how you can listen to Dolby Atmos spatial audio on your Apple homepod or Sonos era 300 what do you think have you tried spatial audio on your smart speaker yet let me know your thoughts Down Below in the comments or on Twitter at Andrew underscore OSU otherwise stay tuned I got a lot more videos coming your way
