48 hour cozy fall read-a-thon vlog! 3 books & 750 pages!

**War Ending: A Concept Worth Exploring**

The concept of war ending with huge, massive, powerful dark spells that require more Mana than she could ever use but are also kind of useless to her on a daily basis is truly fascinating. This idea highlights the complexities of magic systems and the challenges of maintaining power in a world where magic is a constant threat. The fact that these spells are not only difficult to master but also serve as a means of training for dark magic users makes them all the more intriguing. By ignoring these spells, L is able to avoid the temptation of darkness and focus on her own goals, making this concept both compelling and relatable.

**Introducing the World of Sholomance**

The world of Sholomance is richly detailed and immersive, with a complex web of relationships and dynamics between its students. The author's care in explaining the function of magic and the school's system is evident, providing readers with a deep understanding of this fantasy world. From the danger of monsters to the politics of student alliances, every aspect of Sholomance is meticulously crafted to create an engaging and believable setting. As I read through the pages, I found myself becoming increasingly invested in the world and its characters.

**The Main Character: L**

L is a complex and intriguing main character, with a compelling dynamic that makes her both relatable and endearing. Her desire to repel anyone and everyone is understandable, given her past experiences and the danger that lurks within Sholomance's walls. However, as she forms connections with others, including Orion, she begins to confront the reasons behind her actions and the system that has made her a loner. This internal struggle makes for a compelling narrative, as L navigates the complexities of friendship and relationships in a world where they are scarce.

**Reading Experience**

My reading experience was enhanced by the author's unique writing style, which employs a stream-of-consciousness approach to create a sense of urgency and immediacy. The pace is quick, with new information and characters introduced regularly, keeping me engaged and curious about what would happen next. As I read through the pages, I found myself enjoying the humor and wit that L brings to her interactions with others, as well as the way she navigates the challenges of Sholomance.

**Fall Readathon Update**

For my Fall Readathon, I managed to complete 750 pages across four books: "Deadly Education" by Naomi Novik, "A House with Good Bones" by Tin Fisher, "Spells for Forgetting" by Adrian Young, and several others. Each book brought its own unique charm and appeal, but it was the combination of these stories that made this readathon truly special. From the atmospheric setting of "Spells for Forgetting" to the humor and wit of "A House with Good Bones", each book contributed to a rich reading experience.

**Conclusion**

As I wrap up my Fall Readathon, I'm left with a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. The combination of these books provided a diverse range of experiences, from fantasy world-building to horror and Southern Gothic elements. While each book had its own strengths and weaknesses, they all contributed to a cohesive reading experience that was both enjoyable and engaging. As I look back on my journey through these pages, I'm reminded of the power of storytelling to transport us to new worlds and evoke strong emotions.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi guys it's Reagan and welcome to the start of another reading Vlog this Vlog is a little extra special it's sort of like a vibey challenge reading Vlog but it's also mostly just serving as a distraction for myself so let's sit down and elaborate so I leave for my wedding in about five days time which is actually a little bananas if I think about it um and I'm honestly feeling a little stressed a little anxious not because I think anything is going to go wrong necessarily but there's just a lot of moving Parts it's a destination wedding once I get there I know everything will be okay and the funny part is once this video is live because I'm currently filming and pre-filming to have videos go live while I'm on my honeymoon I'll probably already be married so I'm sure everything's fine future Reagan right right so I thought you know let's do something to distract myself a bit because I could use a bit of distraction and the thing that has been on my mind outside of my wedding um is fall and how excited I am for fall how excited I am for The Vibes for the books just the whole experience so I've decided to do a bit of a 48-hour sort of readathon of three fall reads fall leaning reads that I feel like are just going to be a great Vibe all around so without further Ado let's chat through the books here is my stack of books I feel like are going to be a perfect fall lineup first we have spells for forgetting by Adrian young this is set during The Fall season in this really small coastal town we follow our main character Emery who 14 years prior her her best friend died and her boyfriend was like accused of the crime in present day 14 years later um her old boyfriend August like comes back to the small town and everything sort of unravels from there I've heard good things I feel like it's going to be Vivy and then I also want to read house with good bones by T Ken Fisher this is tkin Fisher's horror book and I don't I love teakin Fisher's writing so much and while horror can be scary tkin fish's writing tends to be really cozy and endearing so I'm kind of hoping it sort of has that mix but we will see this is A Haunted House tale and then lastly we have deadly education by Naomi novik the premise of this book is dangerous magic school any type of Magic School setting is always going to give me fall Vibes so these are the three books I hope to either finish or get a really good way through fall atmosphere all around which is exactly what we need mentioned I think I'm going to start with spells for forgetting by Adrian young I feel like because this has what feels like maybe a thriller esque like small town gossip thrillery mystery elements to it I feel like it could be a pretty quick read and I love small town stories so I'm looking forward to this one I'm also trying to convince clay to go get a sweet treat because what doesn't solve stress more than Sweet Treats there we go welcome to the 48 hour fall Vibes readathon reading Vlog alrighty it's time to light the inaugural all candle of this Vlog pumpkin vanilla we are also gonna be starting a book spells for forgetting and I did convince clay in fact to get a sweet treat so we have a latte so we have everything we need all I need to do is put my faux fireplace on and we're just gonna Vibe right here hello friends great news I've already read 75 pages of spells for we're getting and this book is a Vibe and also this book is such a fall read and giving me like such a strong desire to just be in Vermont or the Pacific Northwest during the fall like the ability that the author is able to capture the feeling of like a cold chilly autumn day leaves crunching underneath your feet like the atmosphere is a 10 out of 10 in this book and the plot is really pulling me through the pages it's rather melodramatic and intriguing but like let me tell you a bit more about this book so as I said this book takes place in on this really small town um which is an island which is off the coast of Seattle it's called like sarsi I want to say before the start of the story 14 years prior to be exact there was a tragic death of a young girl on this island her name was Lily and she was thought to be murdered she was the best friend of her main character named Emery Who as a teenager always dreamed of leaving the island and kind of setting out in the world with the love of her life named August who she was dating at the time but everyone in the town thinks that August killed Lily her best friend and from there August and his mother like flees back to the mainland and then fast forward 14 years later we see Emery our main character working in the tea shop that her family has kind of had for Generations never having really left the island and she wakes up to what she feels like is a strong Omen when all the leaves on the island turned at once and she knows something is like in the air and August comes back to Cersei for the first time in 14 years to basically settle some things some things from the past if you will this book has a lot going for it first off as I mentioned it's very melodramatic and it's tone like Emery is in her feels and has been in her feels for 14 years understandingly your best friend died the love of her life left everyone thinks her the love of her life killed her best friend and she doesn't really know what to do and she hasn't seen him in 14 years and she's just trying to move on with her life and that's kind of what she's been doing the small town Vibes are at a all-time high I mean everyone knows everybody's business they're also not too kind to Outsiders and there's also this hint of like magic that sort of dusts everything this book has like I would truly say like a dash of fantasy it's kind of like the land and the people that are from this island just have a deeper connection with some type of nature calling very sort of witchy sort of Vibes but it's not like overtly with cheap you know what I mean more like a dash of witchy and then the cool thing about this book too is we're actually reading from both August memory's point of view we are learning about their perspective and interpretation of things and we're also jumping forward and back in time we're reading chapters in present day but also jumping in the past before the tragic fire and death of Lily so we're just as the reader like trying to piece all of these things together because we don't really know one what happened neither do our main characters or so we know so far because one outside of this like angsty sort of re-crossing Paths of two people with a very complicated history the small Town setting there is sort of this like reopening of this wound in this community and I think we're gonna try to figure out what really happened on that fateful night to Lily and the fire that impacted the town There's also like other dramatic factors and like people behind the scenes that could be connected to this there's just like a lot of things happening there's lots of Secrets being kept people are being honest even within the family and all of this stuff so it just has this like heavy layer of Ambiance and drama and The Vibes are so fall and there's so many longing looks there's just like a lot happening but it's like working for me you know what I mean I'm reading it very very quickly because I want to know what happened what happened 14 years ago I gotta know everyone is so brooding understandably but like I don't I don't know if anyone's ever been happy I also just like love a cold ocean setting and this book has that I feel like it has a lot of Ambiance and Intrigue that's really capturing my attention so I'm gonna read more now I feel like I'm gonna easily fly through this book it's like a good mix of like Thriller small town drama a little bit of fantasy I'm having a great time I'm not gonna lie oh also the fireplace is going strong and book news I've read to page 120 and I'm digging the spells for forgetting like don't get me wrong it's definitely melodramatic but I am into it it almost feels like if Gilmore Girls and like a murder mystery kind of book had a baby it's it's absolutely taken my mind off all my stresses also making me crave some tea because the lead character of the book owns a tea shop and honestly I wish I could go there so I'm gonna make some tea myself to uh also enjoy speaking of stresses um the other thing that's definitely been top of mind for me and I'm sure a lot of you can relate is uh student loan repayments are starting at the end of this month September 1st interest will begin a crew and again thanks to the Supreme Court shopping uh this student debt relief plan you know back in June love that for us which we didn't know student loans in America are the second largest form of debt outside of mortgages and student loan debt itself has topped off at 1.774 trillion dollars trillion dollars as of June 2023 my tea is now steeping outside of continuing to fight to overturn the massive amount of student debt in this country that's absolutely crushing the everyday American with literally debt for the rest of their lives some people owing more today than they started with due to interest which is just bananas um in the the meantime current Administration has passed something called wait I Googled it saving on valuable education or save plan which is implementing a few different things to make the process of starting to repay things hopefully a little bit easier depending on your circumstances so I'm going to link that down below as a resource but obviously we got to keep fighting for debt cancellation but I did want to just like shout out that resource because it is helpful it's like a government website so you can refer to that there if you want to learn more but I'm gonna let this steep and I try not to think about my student loans cheer alrighty I'm a PJs and uh I I mean I'm technically kind of making something that would be very delicious all day but it's also just in general delicious recipe I'm making like a one pot chicken in orzo Half Baked Harvest recipe with like this feta yogurt situation um so let's get chopping shall we thank you this looked prettier when I took it out of the oven but this should be delicious we got lots of broccoli and orzo and chicken and then I also made this creamy feta sauce situation to put on top so I'm gonna make myself a bowl and then clay and I are gonna watch some documentaries I think we are well I am taking a quick break from Reading watching some break point with Clay hello I am now in bed and I'm gonna get back to reading I have read 150 ish pages of this book and my goal is to get like over two thirds of the way through tonight before I go to sleep and then I'll wake up tomorrow and finish it and then I can move on to book two I'm really liking this book I feel like I read the first like bit of this story very very quickly I feel like it has a lot of very engaging things about it I would almost describe it as like Gilmore Girls Meets small town thriller-esque Story meets like fall witchy Vibes the atmosphere the character Dynamics are so over the top and it has all the small town mechanics that I feel like work so well especially in a story like this I feel like the Dual timelines makes it very engaging I'm not it's like I don't know who to trust but it's not so intense like a thriller would be like I can't trust the people I'm reading but it's more so like people are hiding things and the picture is so murky to me at the moment but I'm so curious to know what happened 14 years ago and also kind of like what's happening now and the slow reveals and the little bit of like investigation has been very interesting too and I also feel like the author has sold this very intense relationship between August and Emory very very well it's not just some fling from the past it very much has the sense of like faded one true love esque Vibes like a wound that never closed like that sort of situation and I don't know I feel like the author has sold it well and I think part of the why it's so successful with that is kind of the atmosphere and Mythos of this place kind of makes it feel like something more Grand or more sweeping then maybe we would typically think of like high school romance you know but I'm just really enjoying the atmosphere I'm engaged by the story they're reading the pace of this book I find myself like very compelled to keep reading it I like that we're reading multiple perspectives obviously August and Embry are our main characters we actually have characters of other members of the town too which I like I don't know I have no idea where this book is going but I'll tell you what I want to know what's gonna happen next so I'm gonna read now I'm gonna try to get you know maybe in a page like 250 to 70 tonight and then be able to wrap it up in the morning definitely a quick read definitely fall Vibes 100 good morning friends good morning Matilda I'm in the home stretch of my book we're gonna finish it right now I'm rather hooked I really I want to know how it ends I want to know what in the world is going on I finished I like finished and threw it uh I finished the spells for forgetting and I really liked this book it was definitely not necessarily perfect but I was entertained I was rather entranced by the Thriller plot line and everything coming together was a pretty interesting the end was rather quick and the wrap-up of the end was rather quick but I just think the concept this island that's full of magic and history and it's like pulling you in and people are making all of these dark decisions and there's like Legacy and hatred generational distress between families this like dramatic romance that seems faded between our two main characters and lots of lots of people lying in between I was definitely vibey I feel like my favorite part was just the Ambiance the atmosphere of the setting and the Thriller element like trying to piece together the mystery was interesting um I definitely say I was entertained I mean I read 359 49 Pages super fast um this book was hard to put down I feel like this is definitely really a great fall read it's definitely very transporting and just kind of like captures the vibe of the season of the location and it was a good time so one book down for my 48 hour readathon I think I'm gonna read my tkin Fisher horror book next is a haunted house style story but first I think I'm gonna make myself some breakfast and start to get ready for the day because I do have stuff I need to do unfortunately but yeah one book down nice he is dressed for the day I even put on a sweater even though it definitely is not sweater weather outside this is what I should be wearing but I just thought it looks so cute the white dress this is from Madewell I was also going to put these earrings on because they would look really good with the outfit but I don't actually feel like wearing like heavier earrings just while I'm at home so this is more like in theory in theory I think I'm gonna go meet a friend for happy hour later so I'll put these on then likely not with the sweater though which unfortunately would just be the best look but anyway I'm gonna make lunch now alrighty lunch I'm making a miso soup hello miso paste with some tofu and some mushrooms I have learned while reading online you actually dissolve the miso paste into the soup at the end after it like boils and finished cooking you should never boil your miso paste I've done this in the past myself because I am an amateur and then I'm also making some pot stickers which I'm steaming and frying now so hopefully those will be done soon quick dinner taste not dinner Quick Lunch tasty lunch which we love to see and lunch is served this literally took like 15 minutes so easy so delicious unfortunately I have not read anything so far so it's a lot of time I checked in work has been has been has been but I did just cut out myself a bowl of strawberries and I'm about to start my second book of my 48 hour fall readathon and we're gonna read a horror book because spooky Vibes and then I'm gonna exactly there's clay and then I'm going to meet a friend for happy hour you're going to happy hour I'm going to happy hour anyway I'm finally gonna get some reading in alrighty so the next book I'm about to start and I feel like I'll be easily able to finish today is a house with good bones by T Ken Fisher it says Southern Hospitality to die for which we love um this book is set as you would guess in the south and basically it opens up with our main character being told that something's wrong with mom like his her sibling reaches out so she decides to travel back home and stay with her mom for a bit and when she gets there she also realized that something is off with the house gone is like the warm and comforting home that she grew up in now everything is like sterile White and her mother is jumping at everything like she's very much on edge she also finds like a jar of teeth in the backyard and like things get spooky so we're gonna start it I think it's only just over 200 pages so I feel like I should be able to finish this book with ease I love tea Ken Fisher's writing we're removing the dust jacket it's official so I'm really looking forward to picking this book up so let's get started hello I read a quick 56 pages of a house with good bones and I am Charmed by this story for a few different reasons one I was very correct that this book is definitely gonna be spooky but it's still gonna have teakin Fisher's like humor and endearing characters which is definitely what's going on as I said we're following our main character Sam who she has a really interesting job and I actually really appreciate how much detail the author has gone into about her job and Sam our main character's passions I feel like it really helps us feel connected to our characters quickly and really rounds them out as like real feeling people but Sam is a biologist and specifically works with bugs and like ancient bugs in the past and history I think it's really cool and very specific and I always love learning about those types of jobs that I didn't know about before so that is her job she's really into that and she was on a dig but it ended really quickly because they stumbled upon human remains which kind of resulted in everything having to put to a halt for the time being so that is why she's staying back with her mom um one I'm really loving their the mom-daughter relationship in this book it actually reminds me a lot of the mom-daughter relationship I have with my own mom so I'm finding it to be very endearing and homey and it's just kind of making me reflect in that very specific way but her mom is like very very sweet very very kind and not one who's kind of like very jokey or like gonna be hard or difficult and then Sam's Dynamic with her is kind of to like playfully give her a hard time which is definitely again the dynamic I have with my own mom but she gets there and realizes that something is off her mom is like extra anxious the house feels different she's like more sensitive to things being brought up you quickly get the sense that likely the house is very very haunted but the book has like good humor and I love the relationship between this mother and daughter duo in this book and I feel like it's going to balance like the horror and kind of the lovely character Dynamics really well which is kind of what I was hoping when I bought and picked this book up by teakin Fisher because that's what I love about this author's writing style so I'm happy to see that's kind of in Play 50 36 Pages have been read I'm gonna keep going again this book is not very long so I also feel like from a plot pacing point of view it's gonna go quickly because there's like no other choice because there's not much there's not much of this book at all so anyway so that I would do a check-in overhaul completely I think that what you have to do is just like hi everyone cheers have some coffee good morning I'm applying for an extension for my 48 hour readathon because one I was having a great time um and two I uh didn't do any reading last night I met up with my friend for a glass of wine it was supposed to just be like an hour hanging out we hung out for like five hours it was a blast but I came back um you know after a few glasses of wine and um didn't do very much reading so here we are I'm applying for an extension this blog is going into tomorrow morning now and that way I can still get all of my fall reads that I want to get read you know it's fun when I'm the one who's making my own rules anyway so it's like you know I'll just do some shits in around um but I'm up and Adam this morning and I'm gonna read some more of a house with good bones the only other plans I have today besides reading and doing a little bit of work is I am getting my nails done um for you know this is a big day so hopefully my nails will look snatched later on this video and everyone will be like wow Reagan your hands have never looked better it'll be so grateful so you know but anyway yeah so that is my plan I'm getting lunch the different friend and we're getting our nails done so that'll take up a portion of the afternoon but other than that reading is going to be happening today we're gonna read a lot and first up we gotta finish a house with good bones which I'm gonna try to do right now hello I've read 150 pages of this book I think I only have maybe 90 pages of this left it reads really really quickly and honestly I think I would almost describe this as like a cozy Horror Story if that is even allowed to exist because this book is definitely a haunted house tale and definitely spooky things are happening wait actually pause I need to show you Matilda before she stops doing what she's doing l-o-l Millie is relaxing but as I was saying this book is A Haunted House Tale But even all of the spooky stuff is interesting and spooky but like it could definitely be scarier if it wanted to but I think it's a choice it's like for me I'm like almost liking that not anything is too scary but the mystery and the Intrigue around what is happening in this house is still like spooky and entertaining in itself the other reasons why I think it's like more cozy leaning is like the relationship between our main character Sam and her mom is so endearing there's also all of these like cute relationships being formed now that she's back um she gets to know her neighbor Gail a bit more and there's just a lot of interesting like humor and camaraderie that's happening in this small town There's also like maybe a romance that's kind of forming too which again gives me like a little more like cozy small town Vibes so there's just like an interesting mix of things happening in the story which I am liking um the other thing I will say too is I really like our main characters point of view I like our humor I like being in her head in particular I think it's interesting what the author is doing with the acceptance of the haunting our main character is a scientist she's an etymologist she has spent her whole life um you know being in science being very rational doing research like explaining phenomenon through the a lens of like Discovery and science so obviously our main character is being confronted with all of these very strange experiences but we see here trying to rationalize and understand it also be concerned for her mother who is clearly acting differently um but not really wanting to go there in terms of like yeah this is Supernatural this is Magic because obviously she's a very science thinking brain like that can't be possible that is an untrue thing that can occur so the dissonance that exist in our main character for a variety of things I really appreciating also I just love that our main character is an entomologist is like teakin Fisher an etymologist like there's so much interesting bug knowledge and I just feel like the inclusion of that is not only so specific but like the passion our main character has around bugs I'm not I don't even really like bugs that much but like I love having characters that are like passionate about something and I feel like the inclusion of it is really interesting in particular because the garden and Gardens are such a big part of kind of this house and story so having our main character be a specialist on a specific part of a garden um and have bugs which are typically a part of horror like Critters especially swarming um so having our main character like love bugs and be a part of bugs talking about bugs with other people I think is a really cool ad and I just feel like really fleshes out our main character more main character is funny but again the dynamic between her and her mother they just make me smile and laugh so again that kind of makes me feel like this book is like more cozy while also having this really intriguing horror Thriller mystery haunted house Vibe but it's a good mix and it's kind of what I was anticipating from this author because her books can be really dark but her characters always add like a light and I love them and I just feel like she has such a good range of making compelling characters like everyone feels so different anyway I'm having a good time with this book and I'm reading it again really fast so I don't anticipate it being any issue for me to finish it um today and I will start my third book of this 48 hour 48 hour in parentheses uh cozy fall readathon Vlog which I'm so excited about but yeah this was a great pickup and I feel like a great like kind of scary horror book for the other chickens out there like me but want like Halloween Vibes you know here is my OOTD to go get these nails done um green dress a little fruit shirt good news I've also passed the 200 Page Mark of my book really really really on the home stretch when I return I'm going to start the third book of my little cozy fall readathon Vlog oh and clay made the bed that looks nice my nails are done I think they look really pretty pleased with them and I'm actually gonna sit down now and finish a house with good bones I'm actually going to change into PJ's faux fireplace it then finish this book and then I'm obviously gonna start sholomance tonight and then we'll wrap this Vlog up tomorrow but I'm honestly kind of killing it when I finish this I live right over 500 pages I still got lots in the tank I feel like with reading I even got myself a sweet treat which we all know I have a propensity to do so uh there we go let's go finish this book give me my thoughts and feelings and then I'm also gonna start big brother tonight which I'm so excited about because Siri is on it but anyway I'm rambling um that's the plan The Vibes are spectacular Millie and I use already comfortable are gonna sit down now I already brought my next book and get some reading in and finish this this yearbook alrighty we are in the home stretch I changed into comfortable clothes um this book is really like it's picking up its intensity from a horror point of view I'm also appreciating the element of like family family Legacy particularly because this is supposed to be like a Southern Gothic story so expectations within the family manners stuff like that are all really included and I'm liking that element but yes it's definitely getting more spooky it's definitely getting much more intense it's like it's like shifted into a new gear we were like whoa how is this gonna end you know what I mean I finished oh my gosh the ending was ba Nana's with a capital B so entertaining I mean this was a fun little Gothic Horror Story it really wasn't too long at all I think it was about 250 Pages which means I have read almost 600 Pages for this Vlog I am now going to go ahead and start some deadly education by Nomi Novak I don't know if I'll be able to finish this by tomorrow I think this is the longest book of the books I'm reading honestly it's only 300 pages so it actually isn't it's the second longest but I feel like I can hopefully get like 150 or so pages of this red get a good start um but I'm looking forward to this another great fall Vibe read you know udon and BB obviously on this uh cozy fall reading lot hello I blundered I got some new shampoo and conditioner and it smells so good um but I'm about to start deadly education right now which I'm so excited about I feel like this book is going to be very intense I guess all the other books I've read have been pretty intense to be honest but like intense in a different way you know but I'm here for it hello world I am about to sit down and read more oh it has a quote on the spine I'm gonna read more deadly education but I wanted to give you a reading update 60 Pages I've read so far because I'm actually really liking this book so a lot of time has been spent not only introducing us to the character but the world and the danger of the magic and the magic school that our main characters existing in we follow our main character L who is a young girl who is now residing in a place called The sholomance which is a magic school the sholomance is dangerous for so many different reasons the students compete against each other um and also there are these monsters that live there that like basically can kill you even still the sholomance is one of the safest places a young magic user who's learning how to use their magic to be which is why all these students are there in spite of how dangerous it is basically in this world you can utilize different sources to fuel your magic the proper way and the right way is something called Mana which you've run into a lot in any type of Magic Use setting but here's the deal it's hard and takes a lot of energy to charge up your own Mana for like any amount of spells but a lot of really powerful groups of magic users basically come together and they pull their mana and they've done it for Generations so if you have connections you have access to lots of Mana but if you're like our main character L who doesn't have connections or is just kind of like a more standard wizard in person just trying to survive or you can turn to like dark magic and use like the life force of things and other people and other Wizards to fuel your magic which kind of like Burns you up from the inside out but it does provide you more magic and gives you a bigger opportunity to survive the shoulder bands in this world Too Young Magic users are described as being like a sweet sugary treat who are just like easy targets for these monsters that live all around the world and the Shola mans is like a place where there is less of them you have like a one in four shot of surviving the sholomance versus you have a 1 in 20 shot survive in the outside world as an untrained magic user so just like a very dangerous situation our main character l who I'm really enjoying because she's she's a really dark character she doesn't really have very many friends understandably it's a really dangerous situation she's in but she's also kind of treated as an outcast her magic too is very interesting she's basically set up to be like the most powerful dark magic user but she doesn't want to use dark magic um so the shoulderance feels like this like living breathing thing and so you kind of request spells they show you spells that they want you to use and all of the Spells she's given are like world domination War ending like huge massive powerful dark spells that not only require more Mana that she could ever use but also like from a circumstantial point of view they're kind of useless to her on a daily basis and they're kind of training her to be a dark magic user which she doesn't want to be so she just kind of ignores all of those so that in itself is a really interesting concept um the first little bit of this book has really just been about like introducing us to the shoulder man's the world the dangers of this world the complex relationships and Dynamics between students that exist um and our main character L but like in terms of like a larger plot I haven't really seen that yet uh but I like her Dynamic I the concept in the setting is really cool and I appreciate how much care the author has taken to like explain functionally how everything works definitely false spooky Vibes I mean these Monsters the danger of it all there's a there's a lot happening here but I'm gonna go get some coffee and read more and I will keep you guys updated coffee time coffee time coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee time of the main character in this book so much she so desperately tries to repel anyone and everyone um at the sholomance for a variety of really understandable reasons and then seeing her have to process accidentally becoming friends with people and people just actually may be liking her and um obviously it's an interesting balance because so much of this book is like negotiating amongst the students um like nothing really seemingly comes for free especially when you make yourself a loner and is also treated as an outcast so anyway I just really like the main character L and the school setting and just seeing how everything is sort of playing out is so interesting so far friends let's wrap up this 48-hour fall time reading Vlog I actually read a lot of pages hold on let me calculate the exact amount all in all for this Vlog I was able to read about 750 Pages which I think is pretty dang good I'm going to do a reverse order for wrapping up the books because I want to talk more about deadly education by Naomi novik which I have read which I've read 160 pages of I'm really liking this book first and foremost I love this school setting I love following our main character go to all of her classes I also think it's a really unique spooky dark education sorry Clay's walking out to the window uh education setting from like a fantasy point of view I really like our main character L she is this more loner character in the school and it's really compelling to see her system how she approaches her everyday life her classes how she's working to survive how she overcomes um the fact that the school wants her to be this like evil sorceress but what I also really love is watching Elle like unwittingly and really not with her main desire like form friendships it starts first with this character Orion who's like the school's hero he's dashing he looks out for the little guy and he's like connected himself to her and she's like what are you doing and she gives him such a hard time in a way that no one else does and their Dynamic is so funny and you also slowly see her kind of form some bonds with other people in the school kind of forcing her to reflect on how she like purposely is mean to people and shuts people out but also reflecting on the system and the situation that made her like this to survive it's definitely a multi-prong situation the writing style I'm also really liking it's written kind of like stream of Consciousness which I think works really well you definitely kind of have to pay attention everything's sort of just thrown at you but again I think it works well for the vibe I just I'm really liking this book I think the setting is compelling the characters are compelling the magic is compelling it's really really working for me so I brought 150 pages of this I obviously read the entirety of a house with good bones by tkin Fisher which was about 250 Pages this is a Southern Gothic Horror Story a little bit of cozy a little bit spooky great mother-daughter relationship funny and endearing honestly a really fast fall read and then lastly I read the entirety of spells for forgetting by Adrian young so vibing atmospheric of all the books this is definitely like the most transporting like I felt like I could feel like the Ocean Spray smell the leaves the crunching of I don't know it was just such fall Vibes in this book I really really enjoyed it it had a compelling Thriller thread throughout it a mystery great characters romance just so much like dark spooky fall angst I personally really enjoyed it so yeah 750 Pages red for my fall readathon which I think is pretty dang solid I hope you guys enjoyed this video and I will see you soon with another one soonhi guys it's Reagan and welcome to the start of another reading Vlog this Vlog is a little extra special it's sort of like a vibey challenge reading Vlog but it's also mostly just serving as a distraction for myself so let's sit down and elaborate so I leave for my wedding in about five days time which is actually a little bananas if I think about it um and I'm honestly feeling a little stressed a little anxious not because I think anything is going to go wrong necessarily but there's just a lot of moving Parts it's a destination wedding once I get there I know everything will be okay and the funny part is once this video is live because I'm currently filming and pre-filming to have videos go live while I'm on my honeymoon I'll probably already be married so I'm sure everything's fine future Reagan right right so I thought you know let's do something to distract myself a bit because I could use a bit of distraction and the thing that has been on my mind outside of my wedding um is fall and how excited I am for fall how excited I am for The Vibes for the books just the whole experience so I've decided to do a bit of a 48-hour sort of readathon of three fall reads fall leaning reads that I feel like are just going to be a great Vibe all around so without further Ado let's chat through the books here is my stack of books I feel like are going to be a perfect fall lineup first we have spells for forgetting by Adrian young this is set during The Fall season in this really small coastal town we follow our main character Emery who 14 years prior her her best friend died and her boyfriend was like accused of the crime in present day 14 years later um her old boyfriend August like comes back to the small town and everything sort of unravels from there I've heard good things I feel like it's going to be Vivy and then I also want to read house with good bones by T Ken Fisher this is tkin Fisher's horror book and I don't I love teakin Fisher's writing so much and while horror can be scary tkin fish's writing tends to be really cozy and endearing so I'm kind of hoping it sort of has that mix but we will see this is A Haunted House tale and then lastly we have deadly education by Naomi novik the premise of this book is dangerous magic school any type of Magic School setting is always going to give me fall Vibes so these are the three books I hope to either finish or get a really good way through fall atmosphere all around which is exactly what we need mentioned I think I'm going to start with spells for forgetting by Adrian young I feel like because this has what feels like maybe a thriller esque like small town gossip thrillery mystery elements to it I feel like it could be a pretty quick read and I love small town stories so I'm looking forward to this one I'm also trying to convince clay to go get a sweet treat because what doesn't solve stress more than Sweet Treats there we go welcome to the 48 hour fall Vibes readathon reading Vlog alrighty it's time to light the inaugural all candle of this Vlog pumpkin vanilla we are also gonna be starting a book spells for forgetting and I did convince clay in fact to get a sweet treat so we have a latte so we have everything we need all I need to do is put my faux fireplace on and we're just gonna Vibe right here hello friends great news I've already read 75 pages of spells for we're getting and this book is a Vibe and also this book is such a fall read and giving me like such a strong desire to just be in Vermont or the Pacific Northwest during the fall like the ability that the author is able to capture the feeling of like a cold chilly autumn day leaves crunching underneath your feet like the atmosphere is a 10 out of 10 in this book and the plot is really pulling me through the pages it's rather melodramatic and intriguing but like let me tell you a bit more about this book so as I said this book takes place in on this really small town um which is an island which is off the coast of Seattle it's called like sarsi I want to say before the start of the story 14 years prior to be exact there was a tragic death of a young girl on this island her name was Lily and she was thought to be murdered she was the best friend of her main character named Emery Who as a teenager always dreamed of leaving the island and kind of setting out in the world with the love of her life named August who she was dating at the time but everyone in the town thinks that August killed Lily her best friend and from there August and his mother like flees back to the mainland and then fast forward 14 years later we see Emery our main character working in the tea shop that her family has kind of had for Generations never having really left the island and she wakes up to what she feels like is a strong Omen when all the leaves on the island turned at once and she knows something is like in the air and August comes back to Cersei for the first time in 14 years to basically settle some things some things from the past if you will this book has a lot going for it first off as I mentioned it's very melodramatic and it's tone like Emery is in her feels and has been in her feels for 14 years understandingly your best friend died the love of her life left everyone thinks her the love of her life killed her best friend and she doesn't really know what to do and she hasn't seen him in 14 years and she's just trying to move on with her life and that's kind of what she's been doing the small town Vibes are at a all-time high I mean everyone knows everybody's business they're also not too kind to Outsiders and there's also this hint of like magic that sort of dusts everything this book has like I would truly say like a dash of fantasy it's kind of like the land and the people that are from this island just have a deeper connection with some type of nature calling very sort of witchy sort of Vibes but it's not like overtly with cheap you know what I mean more like a dash of witchy and then the cool thing about this book too is we're actually reading from both August memory's point of view we are learning about their perspective and interpretation of things and we're also jumping forward and back in time we're reading chapters in present day but also jumping in the past before the tragic fire and death of Lily so we're just as the reader like trying to piece all of these things together because we don't really know one what happened neither do our main characters or so we know so far because one outside of this like angsty sort of re-crossing Paths of two people with a very complicated history the small Town setting there is sort of this like reopening of this wound in this community and I think we're gonna try to figure out what really happened on that fateful night to Lily and the fire that impacted the town There's also like other dramatic factors and like people behind the scenes that could be connected to this there's just like a lot of things happening there's lots of Secrets being kept people are being honest even within the family and all of this stuff so it just has this like heavy layer of Ambiance and drama and The Vibes are so fall and there's so many longing looks there's just like a lot happening but it's like working for me you know what I mean I'm reading it very very quickly because I want to know what happened what happened 14 years ago I gotta know everyone is so brooding understandably but like I don't I don't know if anyone's ever been happy I also just like love a cold ocean setting and this book has that I feel like it has a lot of Ambiance and Intrigue that's really capturing my attention so I'm gonna read more now I feel like I'm gonna easily fly through this book it's like a good mix of like Thriller small town drama a little bit of fantasy I'm having a great time I'm not gonna lie oh also the fireplace is going strong and book news I've read to page 120 and I'm digging the spells for forgetting like don't get me wrong it's definitely melodramatic but I am into it it almost feels like if Gilmore Girls and like a murder mystery kind of book had a baby it's it's absolutely taken my mind off all my stresses also making me crave some tea because the lead character of the book owns a tea shop and honestly I wish I could go there so I'm gonna make some tea myself to uh also enjoy speaking of stresses um the other thing that's definitely been top of mind for me and I'm sure a lot of you can relate is uh student loan repayments are starting at the end of this month September 1st interest will begin a crew and again thanks to the Supreme Court shopping uh this student debt relief plan you know back in June love that for us which we didn't know student loans in America are the second largest form of debt outside of mortgages and student loan debt itself has topped off at 1.774 trillion dollars trillion dollars as of June 2023 my tea is now steeping outside of continuing to fight to overturn the massive amount of student debt in this country that's absolutely crushing the everyday American with literally debt for the rest of their lives some people owing more today than they started with due to interest which is just bananas um in the the meantime current Administration has passed something called wait I Googled it saving on valuable education or save plan which is implementing a few different things to make the process of starting to repay things hopefully a little bit easier depending on your circumstances so I'm going to link that down below as a resource but obviously we got to keep fighting for debt cancellation but I did want to just like shout out that resource because it is helpful it's like a government website so you can refer to that there if you want to learn more but I'm gonna let this steep and I try not to think about my student loans cheer alrighty I'm a PJs and uh I I mean I'm technically kind of making something that would be very delicious all day but it's also just in general delicious recipe I'm making like a one pot chicken in orzo Half Baked Harvest recipe with like this feta yogurt situation um so let's get chopping shall we thank you this looked prettier when I took it out of the oven but this should be delicious we got lots of broccoli and orzo and chicken and then I also made this creamy feta sauce situation to put on top so I'm gonna make myself a bowl and then clay and I are gonna watch some documentaries I think we are well I am taking a quick break from Reading watching some break point with Clay hello I am now in bed and I'm gonna get back to reading I have read 150 ish pages of this book and my goal is to get like over two thirds of the way through tonight before I go to sleep and then I'll wake up tomorrow and finish it and then I can move on to book two I'm really liking this book I feel like I read the first like bit of this story very very quickly I feel like it has a lot of very engaging things about it I would almost describe it as like Gilmore Girls Meets small town thriller-esque Story meets like fall witchy Vibes the atmosphere the character Dynamics are so over the top and it has all the small town mechanics that I feel like work so well especially in a story like this I feel like the Dual timelines makes it very engaging I'm not it's like I don't know who to trust but it's not so intense like a thriller would be like I can't trust the people I'm reading but it's more so like people are hiding things and the picture is so murky to me at the moment but I'm so curious to know what happened 14 years ago and also kind of like what's happening now and the slow reveals and the little bit of like investigation has been very interesting too and I also feel like the author has sold this very intense relationship between August and Emory very very well it's not just some fling from the past it very much has the sense of like faded one true love esque Vibes like a wound that never closed like that sort of situation and I don't know I feel like the author has sold it well and I think part of the why it's so successful with that is kind of the atmosphere and Mythos of this place kind of makes it feel like something more Grand or more sweeping then maybe we would typically think of like high school romance you know but I'm just really enjoying the atmosphere I'm engaged by the story they're reading the pace of this book I find myself like very compelled to keep reading it I like that we're reading multiple perspectives obviously August and Embry are our main characters we actually have characters of other members of the town too which I like I don't know I have no idea where this book is going but I'll tell you what I want to know what's gonna happen next so I'm gonna read now I'm gonna try to get you know maybe in a page like 250 to 70 tonight and then be able to wrap it up in the morning definitely a quick read definitely fall Vibes 100 good morning friends good morning Matilda I'm in the home stretch of my book we're gonna finish it right now I'm rather hooked I really I want to know how it ends I want to know what in the world is going on I finished I like finished and threw it uh I finished the spells for forgetting and I really liked this book it was definitely not necessarily perfect but I was entertained I was rather entranced by the Thriller plot line and everything coming together was a pretty interesting the end was rather quick and the wrap-up of the end was rather quick but I just think the concept this island that's full of magic and history and it's like pulling you in and people are making all of these dark decisions and there's like Legacy and hatred generational distress between families this like dramatic romance that seems faded between our two main characters and lots of lots of people lying in between I was definitely vibey I feel like my favorite part was just the Ambiance the atmosphere of the setting and the Thriller element like trying to piece together the mystery was interesting um I definitely say I was entertained I mean I read 359 49 Pages super fast um this book was hard to put down I feel like this is definitely really a great fall read it's definitely very transporting and just kind of like captures the vibe of the season of the location and it was a good time so one book down for my 48 hour readathon I think I'm gonna read my tkin Fisher horror book next is a haunted house style story but first I think I'm gonna make myself some breakfast and start to get ready for the day because I do have stuff I need to do unfortunately but yeah one book down nice he is dressed for the day I even put on a sweater even though it definitely is not sweater weather outside this is what I should be wearing but I just thought it looks so cute the white dress this is from Madewell I was also going to put these earrings on because they would look really good with the outfit but I don't actually feel like wearing like heavier earrings just while I'm at home so this is more like in theory in theory I think I'm gonna go meet a friend for happy hour later so I'll put these on then likely not with the sweater though which unfortunately would just be the best look but anyway I'm gonna make lunch now alrighty lunch I'm making a miso soup hello miso paste with some tofu and some mushrooms I have learned while reading online you actually dissolve the miso paste into the soup at the end after it like boils and finished cooking you should never boil your miso paste I've done this in the past myself because I am an amateur and then I'm also making some pot stickers which I'm steaming and frying now so hopefully those will be done soon quick dinner taste not dinner Quick Lunch tasty lunch which we love to see and lunch is served this literally took like 15 minutes so easy so delicious unfortunately I have not read anything so far so it's a lot of time I checked in work has been has been has been but I did just cut out myself a bowl of strawberries and I'm about to start my second book of my 48 hour fall readathon and we're gonna read a horror book because spooky Vibes and then I'm gonna exactly there's clay and then I'm going to meet a friend for happy hour you're going to happy hour I'm going to happy hour anyway I'm finally gonna get some reading in alrighty so the next book I'm about to start and I feel like I'll be easily able to finish today is a house with good bones by T Ken Fisher it says Southern Hospitality to die for which we love um this book is set as you would guess in the south and basically it opens up with our main character being told that something's wrong with mom like his her sibling reaches out so she decides to travel back home and stay with her mom for a bit and when she gets there she also realized that something is off with the house gone is like the warm and comforting home that she grew up in now everything is like sterile White and her mother is jumping at everything like she's very much on edge she also finds like a jar of teeth in the backyard and like things get spooky so we're gonna start it I think it's only just over 200 pages so I feel like I should be able to finish this book with ease I love tea Ken Fisher's writing we're removing the dust jacket it's official so I'm really looking forward to picking this book up so let's get started hello I read a quick 56 pages of a house with good bones and I am Charmed by this story for a few different reasons one I was very correct that this book is definitely gonna be spooky but it's still gonna have teakin Fisher's like humor and endearing characters which is definitely what's going on as I said we're following our main character Sam who she has a really interesting job and I actually really appreciate how much detail the author has gone into about her job and Sam our main character's passions I feel like it really helps us feel connected to our characters quickly and really rounds them out as like real feeling people but Sam is a biologist and specifically works with bugs and like ancient bugs in the past and history I think it's really cool and very specific and I always love learning about those types of jobs that I didn't know about before so that is her job she's really into that and she was on a dig but it ended really quickly because they stumbled upon human remains which kind of resulted in everything having to put to a halt for the time being so that is why she's staying back with her mom um one I'm really loving their the mom-daughter relationship in this book it actually reminds me a lot of the mom-daughter relationship I have with my own mom so I'm finding it to be very endearing and homey and it's just kind of making me reflect in that very specific way but her mom is like very very sweet very very kind and not one who's kind of like very jokey or like gonna be hard or difficult and then Sam's Dynamic with her is kind of to like playfully give her a hard time which is definitely again the dynamic I have with my own mom but she gets there and realizes that something is off her mom is like extra anxious the house feels different she's like more sensitive to things being brought up you quickly get the sense that likely the house is very very haunted but the book has like good humor and I love the relationship between this mother and daughter duo in this book and I feel like it's going to balance like the horror and kind of the lovely character Dynamics really well which is kind of what I was hoping when I bought and picked this book up by teakin Fisher because that's what I love about this author's writing style so I'm happy to see that's kind of in Play 50 36 Pages have been read I'm gonna keep going again this book is not very long so I also feel like from a plot pacing point of view it's gonna go quickly because there's like no other choice because there's not much there's not much of this book at all so anyway so that I would do a check-in overhaul completely I think that what you have to do is just like hi everyone cheers have some coffee good morning I'm applying for an extension for my 48 hour readathon because one I was having a great time um and two I uh didn't do any reading last night I met up with my friend for a glass of wine it was supposed to just be like an hour hanging out we hung out for like five hours it was a blast but I came back um you know after a few glasses of wine and um didn't do very much reading so here we are I'm applying for an extension this blog is going into tomorrow morning now and that way I can still get all of my fall reads that I want to get read you know it's fun when I'm the one who's making my own rules anyway so it's like you know I'll just do some shits in around um but I'm up and Adam this morning and I'm gonna read some more of a house with good bones the only other plans I have today besides reading and doing a little bit of work is I am getting my nails done um for you know this is a big day so hopefully my nails will look snatched later on this video and everyone will be like wow Reagan your hands have never looked better it'll be so grateful so you know but anyway yeah so that is my plan I'm getting lunch the different friend and we're getting our nails done so that'll take up a portion of the afternoon but other than that reading is going to be happening today we're gonna read a lot and first up we gotta finish a house with good bones which I'm gonna try to do right now hello I've read 150 pages of this book I think I only have maybe 90 pages of this left it reads really really quickly and honestly I think I would almost describe this as like a cozy Horror Story if that is even allowed to exist because this book is definitely a haunted house tale and definitely spooky things are happening wait actually pause I need to show you Matilda before she stops doing what she's doing l-o-l Millie is relaxing but as I was saying this book is A Haunted House Tale But even all of the spooky stuff is interesting and spooky but like it could definitely be scarier if it wanted to but I think it's a choice it's like for me I'm like almost liking that not anything is too scary but the mystery and the Intrigue around what is happening in this house is still like spooky and entertaining in itself the other reasons why I think it's like more cozy leaning is like the relationship between our main character Sam and her mom is so endearing there's also all of these like cute relationships being formed now that she's back um she gets to know her neighbor Gail a bit more and there's just a lot of interesting like humor and camaraderie that's happening in this small town There's also like maybe a romance that's kind of forming too which again gives me like a little more like cozy small town Vibes so there's just like an interesting mix of things happening in the story which I am liking um the other thing I will say too is I really like our main characters point of view I like our humor I like being in her head in particular I think it's interesting what the author is doing with the acceptance of the haunting our main character is a scientist she's an etymologist she has spent her whole life um you know being in science being very rational doing research like explaining phenomenon through the a lens of like Discovery and science so obviously our main character is being confronted with all of these very strange experiences but we see here trying to rationalize and understand it also be concerned for her mother who is clearly acting differently um but not really wanting to go there in terms of like yeah this is Supernatural this is Magic because obviously she's a very science thinking brain like that can't be possible that is an untrue thing that can occur so the dissonance that exist in our main character for a variety of things I really appreciating also I just love that our main character is an entomologist is like teakin Fisher an etymologist like there's so much interesting bug knowledge and I just feel like the inclusion of that is not only so specific but like the passion our main character has around bugs I'm not I don't even really like bugs that much but like I love having characters that are like passionate about something and I feel like the inclusion of it is really interesting in particular because the garden and Gardens are such a big part of kind of this house and story so having our main character be a specialist on a specific part of a garden um and have bugs which are typically a part of horror like Critters especially swarming um so having our main character like love bugs and be a part of bugs talking about bugs with other people I think is a really cool ad and I just feel like really fleshes out our main character more main character is funny but again the dynamic between her and her mother they just make me smile and laugh so again that kind of makes me feel like this book is like more cozy while also having this really intriguing horror Thriller mystery haunted house Vibe but it's a good mix and it's kind of what I was anticipating from this author because her books can be really dark but her characters always add like a light and I love them and I just feel like she has such a good range of making compelling characters like everyone feels so different anyway I'm having a good time with this book and I'm reading it again really fast so I don't anticipate it being any issue for me to finish it um today and I will start my third book of this 48 hour 48 hour in parentheses uh cozy fall readathon Vlog which I'm so excited about but yeah this was a great pickup and I feel like a great like kind of scary horror book for the other chickens out there like me but want like Halloween Vibes you know here is my OOTD to go get these nails done um green dress a little fruit shirt good news I've also passed the 200 Page Mark of my book really really really on the home stretch when I return I'm going to start the third book of my little cozy fall readathon Vlog oh and clay made the bed that looks nice my nails are done I think they look really pretty pleased with them and I'm actually gonna sit down now and finish a house with good bones I'm actually going to change into PJ's faux fireplace it then finish this book and then I'm obviously gonna start sholomance tonight and then we'll wrap this Vlog up tomorrow but I'm honestly kind of killing it when I finish this I live right over 500 pages I still got lots in the tank I feel like with reading I even got myself a sweet treat which we all know I have a propensity to do so uh there we go let's go finish this book give me my thoughts and feelings and then I'm also gonna start big brother tonight which I'm so excited about because Siri is on it but anyway I'm rambling um that's the plan The Vibes are spectacular Millie and I use already comfortable are gonna sit down now I already brought my next book and get some reading in and finish this this yearbook alrighty we are in the home stretch I changed into comfortable clothes um this book is really like it's picking up its intensity from a horror point of view I'm also appreciating the element of like family family Legacy particularly because this is supposed to be like a Southern Gothic story so expectations within the family manners stuff like that are all really included and I'm liking that element but yes it's definitely getting more spooky it's definitely getting much more intense it's like it's like shifted into a new gear we were like whoa how is this gonna end you know what I mean I finished oh my gosh the ending was ba Nana's with a capital B so entertaining I mean this was a fun little Gothic Horror Story it really wasn't too long at all I think it was about 250 Pages which means I have read almost 600 Pages for this Vlog I am now going to go ahead and start some deadly education by Nomi Novak I don't know if I'll be able to finish this by tomorrow I think this is the longest book of the books I'm reading honestly it's only 300 pages so it actually isn't it's the second longest but I feel like I can hopefully get like 150 or so pages of this red get a good start um but I'm looking forward to this another great fall Vibe read you know udon and BB obviously on this uh cozy fall reading lot hello I blundered I got some new shampoo and conditioner and it smells so good um but I'm about to start deadly education right now which I'm so excited about I feel like this book is going to be very intense I guess all the other books I've read have been pretty intense to be honest but like intense in a different way you know but I'm here for it hello world I am about to sit down and read more oh it has a quote on the spine I'm gonna read more deadly education but I wanted to give you a reading update 60 Pages I've read so far because I'm actually really liking this book so a lot of time has been spent not only introducing us to the character but the world and the danger of the magic and the magic school that our main characters existing in we follow our main character L who is a young girl who is now residing in a place called The sholomance which is a magic school the sholomance is dangerous for so many different reasons the students compete against each other um and also there are these monsters that live there that like basically can kill you even still the sholomance is one of the safest places a young magic user who's learning how to use their magic to be which is why all these students are there in spite of how dangerous it is basically in this world you can utilize different sources to fuel your magic the proper way and the right way is something called Mana which you've run into a lot in any type of Magic Use setting but here's the deal it's hard and takes a lot of energy to charge up your own Mana for like any amount of spells but a lot of really powerful groups of magic users basically come together and they pull their mana and they've done it for Generations so if you have connections you have access to lots of Mana but if you're like our main character L who doesn't have connections or is just kind of like a more standard wizard in person just trying to survive or you can turn to like dark magic and use like the life force of things and other people and other Wizards to fuel your magic which kind of like Burns you up from the inside out but it does provide you more magic and gives you a bigger opportunity to survive the shoulder bands in this world Too Young Magic users are described as being like a sweet sugary treat who are just like easy targets for these monsters that live all around the world and the Shola mans is like a place where there is less of them you have like a one in four shot of surviving the sholomance versus you have a 1 in 20 shot survive in the outside world as an untrained magic user so just like a very dangerous situation our main character l who I'm really enjoying because she's she's a really dark character she doesn't really have very many friends understandably it's a really dangerous situation she's in but she's also kind of treated as an outcast her magic too is very interesting she's basically set up to be like the most powerful dark magic user but she doesn't want to use dark magic um so the shoulderance feels like this like living breathing thing and so you kind of request spells they show you spells that they want you to use and all of the Spells she's given are like world domination War ending like huge massive powerful dark spells that not only require more Mana that she could ever use but also like from a circumstantial point of view they're kind of useless to her on a daily basis and they're kind of training her to be a dark magic user which she doesn't want to be so she just kind of ignores all of those so that in itself is a really interesting concept um the first little bit of this book has really just been about like introducing us to the shoulder man's the world the dangers of this world the complex relationships and Dynamics between students that exist um and our main character L but like in terms of like a larger plot I haven't really seen that yet uh but I like her Dynamic I the concept in the setting is really cool and I appreciate how much care the author has taken to like explain functionally how everything works definitely false spooky Vibes I mean these Monsters the danger of it all there's a there's a lot happening here but I'm gonna go get some coffee and read more and I will keep you guys updated coffee time coffee time coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee time of the main character in this book so much she so desperately tries to repel anyone and everyone um at the sholomance for a variety of really understandable reasons and then seeing her have to process accidentally becoming friends with people and people just actually may be liking her and um obviously it's an interesting balance because so much of this book is like negotiating amongst the students um like nothing really seemingly comes for free especially when you make yourself a loner and is also treated as an outcast so anyway I just really like the main character L and the school setting and just seeing how everything is sort of playing out is so interesting so far friends let's wrap up this 48-hour fall time reading Vlog I actually read a lot of pages hold on let me calculate the exact amount all in all for this Vlog I was able to read about 750 Pages which I think is pretty dang good I'm going to do a reverse order for wrapping up the books because I want to talk more about deadly education by Naomi novik which I have read which I've read 160 pages of I'm really liking this book first and foremost I love this school setting I love following our main character go to all of her classes I also think it's a really unique spooky dark education sorry Clay's walking out to the window uh education setting from like a fantasy point of view I really like our main character L she is this more loner character in the school and it's really compelling to see her system how she approaches her everyday life her classes how she's working to survive how she overcomes um the fact that the school wants her to be this like evil sorceress but what I also really love is watching Elle like unwittingly and really not with her main desire like form friendships it starts first with this character Orion who's like the school's hero he's dashing he looks out for the little guy and he's like connected himself to her and she's like what are you doing and she gives him such a hard time in a way that no one else does and their Dynamic is so funny and you also slowly see her kind of form some bonds with other people in the school kind of forcing her to reflect on how she like purposely is mean to people and shuts people out but also reflecting on the system and the situation that made her like this to survive it's definitely a multi-prong situation the writing style I'm also really liking it's written kind of like stream of Consciousness which I think works really well you definitely kind of have to pay attention everything's sort of just thrown at you but again I think it works well for the vibe I just I'm really liking this book I think the setting is compelling the characters are compelling the magic is compelling it's really really working for me so I brought 150 pages of this I obviously read the entirety of a house with good bones by tkin Fisher which was about 250 Pages this is a Southern Gothic Horror Story a little bit of cozy a little bit spooky great mother-daughter relationship funny and endearing honestly a really fast fall read and then lastly I read the entirety of spells for forgetting by Adrian young so vibing atmospheric of all the books this is definitely like the most transporting like I felt like I could feel like the Ocean Spray smell the leaves the crunching of I don't know it was just such fall Vibes in this book I really really enjoyed it it had a compelling Thriller thread throughout it a mystery great characters romance just so much like dark spooky fall angst I personally really enjoyed it so yeah 750 Pages red for my fall readathon which I think is pretty dang solid I hope you guys enjoyed this video and I will see you soon with another one soon\n"
