Review - Logitech Wireless Mouse M510

The M510 Mouse Review: A Decent Offer for Under $40

As I picked up the Logitech M510 mouse, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. The price tag of just $40 made me wonder if this mouse would be able to hold its own against more expensive alternatives. After spending some quality time with this mouse, I'm here to share my thoughts on its performance, features, and overall value.

The Mouse's Quality

Overall, I'd say the M510 is a pretty decent mouse for its price. It may not blow you away in terms of exceptional quality, but it's certainly a solid offering that won't leave you feeling disappointed. One aspect that caught my attention was how well-built the mouse feels. The material and design seem sturdy enough to withstand regular use, although I must admit that I found the buttons to be slightly loud. This might be due to only having had the mouse for a couple of weeks, but it's something worth keeping in mind. Additionally, the wheel moves smoothly, and the back button works flawlessly – except for feeling just a tad cheap. The forward button, on the other hand, required some effort to press, which was slightly annoying.

The Laser Tracking

Perhaps the most impressive feature of this mouse is its laser tracking. I've had the pleasure of using laser-tracking mice before, and it's always a delight to experience that level of precision and smoothness. The M510 delivers on this front, offering super-precise and responsive performance. Whether you're navigating through documents or playing games, this mouse will do justice to your every move.

The Mouse's Compatibility

One thing I noticed was the compatibility issues with Mac users. If you're a Mac user, you'll need to Google Logitech Control Center – or rather, SLS software – to get the full functionality out of this mouse. The driver is required for optimal performance, and it feels a bit like Logitech didn't include everything that's necessary from the get-go.

The Features

Now that we've discussed compatibility, let's talk about some of the features that make this mouse tick. Logitech claims to have achieved 2 years of battery life with these batteries – yes, you read that right. Two whole years! This is indeed a remarkable feat, especially considering that the same batteries have been working just fine for me so far.

One thing I want to emphasize is how well-thought-out this mouse's button layout is. You've got your scroll wheel, forward and back buttons, and more – it's a great balance between form and function. Of course, if you're someone who plays games on PC or even just prefers the Mac experience, there are other mice out there that might be better suited to your needs.

The Verdict

In conclusion, I'd say the M510 is an excellent value for its price point – $40 is a steal! As a Logitech fanboy, I've had great experiences with their products in the past. Although it's not my go-to mouse by far (I still prefer the Magic Mouse), this offering has won me over with its solid performance and impressive features.

That said, if you're looking for something truly top-notch, you might want to consider other mice specifically designed for gaming or high-performance use. However, as a general-purpose mouse that delivers great value without breaking the bank, the M510 is definitely worth considering.

Disclaimer

As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, it's impossible for me to guarantee my preferences will remain the same in 5 years' time – and perhaps they shouldn't be! What I am saying, however, is that as a Mac user who has grown accustomed to Apple's minimalist design language, the M510 sometimes feels a bit too 'mechanical' or busy. The Magic Mouse may not be perfect itself, but its sheer simplicity and elegance have won me over.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello guys how are you David here from tech.com and D franco.com with another review this time I am reviewing the Logitech wireless mouse m510 it retails for $39.99 from logitech.com for first huge thanks to maybe tomorrow by J Ralph on iTunes you can check out his album right below the video for your convenience and yes I'm wearing an apple hat one because it's late and my hair's a mess and two because because it is iPad 2 week the iPad 2 is launching in less than 48 hours and I am freaking excited but that's not the point of this video the point of this video is to finally review the Logitech wireless mouse m510 okay so I'm going to start out with a basic overview of this mouse first of all I call this the typical Windows Mouse design because most mice that work with Windows typically look like this they have a groove on the side rubber grips as opposed to Apple's mice they're one button much cleaner much more modern looking in my opinion on the side here there are rubber grips so this mouse is obviously not going to be running away you get it running away Mouse anyway moving on you do have access to a middle wheel as well as clicks on the left and right there you go right there oh by the way this mouse does do horizontal scrolling which is great for graphic design and it also does vertical scrolling obviously as well as the middle scroll clicking and then if we go on the bottom here we'll see that it has a slide for the laser an onoff switch and a batteries compartment which is actually right there also check this out this is actually pretty neat I just figured this out tonight right here is where you can store the unifying receiver which also works with other Logitech accessories how cool is that guys this thing is Tiny and it fits right into the mouse right there it kind of slides in it's kind of hard to show the camera but you get the idea so if you're traveling and you're taking his mouse to a friend's house or wherever you just you know Slide the receiver into the mouse and you you just get on your way which I think is a great little feature I I haven't really seen that on other mice but keep in mind I I don't use many mice mouse is mice because I'm a big fan of the Magic Mouse but still kudos to Logitech for including that in the first place and then on the front here if you turn the mouse on you will see green meaning power now let's talk about the quality of this mouse the m510 overall it's pretty decent I wouldn't say it's amazing but it's definitely um a good standard for the price which is just $40 again that's not really that bad uh that's less than an Xbox 360 game which is 60 bucks so this is definitely a very well priced Mouse the buttons in my opinion are a little loud but that might be because I've only had his Mouse for a couple weeks and as as you know things just work in naturally over time so that's not really a huge deal the wheel is nice and smooth and it works just fine the back button works great although it feels a little cheap in my opinion but not too cheap that I wouldn't use it uh but the forward button did require a little reaching which I found a little Annoying and of course the most important part of this mouse besides Comfort is laser tracking it's exactly what you'd expect you know from laser tracking it's super precise and very smooth all right so now let's talk about features first of all I should say this mouse works perfectly with the Mac but you must do yourself a favor unfortunately I okay first of all it works out of the box just fine well I say just fine by bare minimum but if you want the true functionality brought out of this mouse you need to Google Logitech control center that is the driver SLS software required for Mac users this gives you access to all kinds of features um mainly what you've seen in other mice since probably the early 2000s uh meaning you can assign the side buttons to not only page back and Page forward uh but scroll rolling but you can also assign these buttons to Mac specific features such as Expose and dashboard oh and even Spotlight which is pretty cool Logitech claims that the m510 receives 2 years of battery life now got to be honest I told myself to wait for 2 years to do this review but then I figured this mouse would be obsolete by then so I'm just going to assume that the battery life is indeed 2 years these are indeed the same two batteries that came with this and they have been working great so again let's just assume that Logitech is not lying but if they are correct I got to say that is freaking impressive 2 years is insane and then of course the final feature I want to talk about if you want to call this a feature in my opinion for this type of mouse it has just the right amount of buttons you have a scroll wheel that goes vertical and uh you know horizontal like I already said it clicks as well as you have page forward and page back buttons that's all I really need but if you're a true gamer on on your PC or Mac or if you're even a big wow player then I got to suggest looking at other mice that are made specifically for games and that is that guys overall the mouse is great especially for 40 bucks again that's cheap for a mouse um especially from Logitech Logitech is a great company um I've been using their mice for years their keywords for years although I use apple um accessories U nowadays but I do use Logitech uh speakers I've had those for like 5 years and they've been perfect it doesn't really relate to this directly but I'm just saying Logitech is a great company I love them uh but I got to be honest as a Mac User the Magic Mouse is still my preferred Mouse oh my God it's attack of the tail no that's mity mity K I'm trying to do a video anyway now as a Mac User guys I got to be honest I still prefer the Magic Mouse because I'm just a bigger fan of Apple simple design and this is going to sound weird this mouse felt a little too mechanical for my my taste now if you would have given me this mouse 5 years ago then I would have said buy this mouse it's amazing it's perfect but I just really really prefer the Magic Mouse there are no moving Parts on here it just works this thing is a giant scroll pad trackpad I should say do not get me wrong as a Windows user this mouse is awesome and that is that guys overall I got a suggest this mouse again 40 bucks great price and huge thanks to the um album by Jay Ruff it's called Maybe tomorrow on iTunes they are graciously sponsoring this mouse review if you guys are
