The Ford Mustang: A Mixed Bag When it Comes to Space Inside

The Ford Mustang is indeed quite large on the outside, and one might assume that its interior would reflect this size. However, with a capacity of 48 L, the boot is actually pretty large. But, as we soon discover, design massively restricts its usefulness. The awkward-shaped opening and huge load-lit make it tricky to fit even a stroller in. It's not exactly the easiest thing to do to get golf clubs in either, despite the ample space available.

On the other hand, small suitcases are surprisingly easy to load due to their shape. Two large suitcases also fit with ease, and there's room for one small suitcase on top of that as well. If you need to transport a bike, you can do so by pulling down the rear seat using a fabric loop. However, removing the wheel is still required to get it through the narrow boot opening. In this case, a mediumsized box might fit on the folded rear seat back, but getting it in requires some fiddling with the front chair.

In terms of carrying rear passengers, leg room is cramped, making the Mustang impractical for family use. It's only marginally better than the Audi TT and worse than the BMW 2 Series when it comes to accommodating rear passengers. Fitting a baby seat is also not particularly easy, requiring you to fold the front seat feet back forward and slide the base electrically – which takes ages. Locating the hidden Isofix anchor points through the slits in the leather is another challenge due to limited space.

However, things are slightly better when it comes to incar storage. The glove box and central storage bin are spacious enough, but there's a problem with standing a bottle upright in the door bins, which would otherwise be a great feature. Additionally, the cup holders' location can get in the way of the gear selector, making everyday use frustrating.

One might wonder why you wouldn't buy a car like the Ford Mustang for its space inside, especially when compared to more practical options. Yet, with 5 liters of space in its V8 engine, it's clear that there's still plenty to be said for this iconic American muscle car. In fact, did you know that when Ford first announced the Mustang back in 1969 on the day of its launch, they received an astonishing 22,000 orders? This only serves as a testament to the enduring appeal and timeless charm of this legendary vehicle.
