Garmin Speak with Amazon Alexa Review - Hit or Miss
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys I'm random Frank P today we're gonna check out the newly released Garmin speak with Amazon Alexa built in this is meant to attach to your windshield give you directions and had that Amazon Alexa accessibility with you on the road without you having to hack up something like the echo dot on your dashboard something like that its brand new like I said had a friend a week but is it worth it let's find out first off I was actually pretty surprised at how small and discreet this is but since it is meant to attach to your windshield obviously it's not gonna be big and bulky so I'm sure to saw that one coming but it is very simple it's this tiny little cylinder on the front you have a little LED light ring with the display in the middle on the back is a speaker so your directions that Alexa could either play out that or have it hooked up to your car's bluetooth on the side you have manual buttons for muting it or just toggling Alexa by yourself and really that's it there is a micro USB port on the right side let's go it's gonna be powered up so they give you the mounting gear it sticks right to your windshield and when you have the app on your phone this is how it's going to connect with Garmin and Alexa at the same time if you need direction to the nearest gas station you want to know what's around you you ask Alexa and using Garmin and I'll put the directions right on the front of the garment speak so you can have it as like a little HUD while you're driving so you can see you know how far until your next turn which exit to go to all that kind of stuff in theory yes that's awesome but an execution is kind of flawed now taking a step back real quick like I said earlier with the microUSB port on the side it does come with a car charger for you the cable is very long so I have it routed up try to make it look neat so it can go to the car charger definitely not the most efficient but it gets the job done so I think one of the biggest selling points here with the garment speak is just having Amazon Alexa with you on the go in your car that accessibility has not been really available to us in the past but it is now so like you said asking for directions ask it stupid things like the weather Alexa who's in first place in the NFL here just some other quick examples on the go Alexa what's the weather right now in Newark it's 70 degrees with clear skies and Sun throughout the day you can expect more of the same with a high of 71 degrees and a low of 44 degrees Alexa where's the nearest Starbucks I found a Starbucks it's 2.5 miles away on Pulaski Highway in Newark it's open now until 9:00 p.m. now my first gripe that I want to bring up about the garments speak that you probably just noticed is when you ask Alexa a question there's a pretty significant delay I found on average by the time you ask her something that registers and she answers it's around five seconds kind of annoying the second bummer is this and this is probably one of the biggest cons I notice right away that is heavily dampening the garments peak experience for me unless you have three or more bars for your self service it either won't work or it'll just flash red alerting you that it's not connected usually when you have three bars that should be good enough but for this it's not it can't connect to the satellite can't connect to your phone and it's been really hit or miss if that so far everything has been 50/50 definitely not what you'd want for something new like this you know but just for the product as a whole you know getting directions on the go you can either ask it for a certain place or manually put in the directions and yes that it will do so all in all if your car doesn't have a built-in GPS or you don't want to use you know Google Maps something like that on your phone this is actually a pretty cool idea because yeah it'll just be a little discreet cylinder math into your windshield that's gonna give you a heads-up display of where you're turning or how far you need to go and that does work fine now you get the little green circle letting you know where to turn all that good stuff but that's really the extent of this because I like how Alexa's built-in but you saw it's either hit or miss 50% of the time and if you don't have a good cell service it's just not gonna work and for something this new I know it just came out I've been testing it for a little over a week now though it's there's so much promise with this but I thought they really missed the mark on this model now hopefully a feature you know updates to the app or anything like that they could kind of improve the overall experience that would be great thinking sort of patch that along the way but I feel like this is kind of like the first product hopefully that'll lead room to a newer improved product down the road that fixes all this and just maybe a little bit better in the end like I said it is brand new so it's gonna be a little bumpy long to wait till a they figure out all the bugs stuff like that but right now I can't recommend it I love the idea that would be great it's just kind of flawed in execution if you want to check it out and kind of keep up to date on it on Amazon itself to see if it's gotten better I will put a link to the Garmin speak in the description down below if you like to
