The BEST GTX 1080 Notebook at the Show!

Compuex 2017 Coverage Brought to You by Corsair and Synergy

My initial plan for the Gigabyte Suite was pretty straightforward, drop by check out the x299 boards and then GTFO. But I saw this thing, and it's not the thinnest GTX 1080 gaming notebook that's here at the show. Both Asus and Acer actually have thinner ones, but Gigabyte's approach to VI's Max Q design technology that they announced here in my opinion is a little bit better.

Balanced Design

Inside this device, you'll find a fully-fledged GTX 1080 with 8 gigs of GDDR, 5x overclockable graphics card. While it may not be the thinnest design, Gigabyte has made fewer gross tradeoffs than both of the other guys. The touchpad is in a normal location, and the massive 94w hour battery makes this notebook suitable for workstation use.

Features and Specifications

The notebook features a great mix of IO with support for up to three external 4K displays. It's got four full-size USB ports, in addition to a type-C and a Thunderbolt 3 port. You'll also find HDMI out, an SD card reader, and Hardline networking. The 4K display may not have high refresh rate, which I would prefer, but it's Pano certified.

The keyboard is RGB backlit with programmable macro keys, and the whole setup has a nice feeling touchpad that I wish was a little bit more responsive. These are small complaints because when you open this thing up, it has absolutely got it where it counts - go along with the overclockable graphics card. You'll find an overclockable Core i7 7820HK quad core, up to 64 GB of DDR4 memory, and two M.2 slots with support for RAID zero.

Gigabyte's Unique Features

One feature that caught my attention is the little kickstand thing you get to help with extra cooling. It might seem a bit clunky, but in my opinion, it actually feels less flimsy than Asus' vent that opens up when you flip open the display.

Price and Conclusion

Now, you won't be getting this for cheap - it's going to cost over $3,000. But so far, this is looking like the best balanced thin GTX 1080 notebook I've seen. While it may seem a little clunky, Gigabyte has made fewer gross tradeoffs than both of the other guys.

Thanks for watching, and a huge shout-out to Synergy for allowing us to be here at the show. Their software, which you can save 25% on, lets you share a mouse and a keyboard across multiple PCs, even cross-platform. To Corsair, whose Corsair One small form factor gaming PC looks and performs freaking fantastic - you can check that out down below as well.
